funnily enough traditional chinese is used only in cantonese and sometimes taiwanese and never in modern Mandarin chinese, which is what i'm talking about.
(Always) used in Hong Kong and Taiwans. and always used in calligraphy.... I also wouldn't say that's modern Chinese, the two character sets are shared to a certain extents as well. They are both Chinese, just got separated due to political reasons. Back in the old days, simplified is used for personal stuff because it is easier to write; traditional is used for royal address because it has less ambiguity. It is a pity that it has to be regional now... they are both beautiful sets of characters. I also hate people only learn one and not the other because they think the other set is useless (mostly because of political reasons). There is so much about Chinese characters if you know all Kanji, traditional Chinese, and simplified Chinese.
Anyhoos... back on topic :) Some progress... Working on scale/skin transition.
What do you use the paint dubs filter on your work in progress' for btw?
What do you use the paint dubs filter on your work in progress' for btw?
Just the bg to make it a bit blurry. Gaussian blur looks like crap No filter on the painted part (foreground).
I tried to draw something without guildlines [t]http://orig04.deviantart.net/cd0e/f/2015/260/7/d/i_tried_to_draw_a_thing_by_rikimaru6811-d99w6tr.png[/t] Then I tried to refine it a little bit [t]http://orig03.deviantart.net/f7c8/f/2015/260/a/4/i_tried_to_refine_a_thing_by_rikimaru6811-d99z6qb.png[/t] [editline]18th September 2015[/editline] Aside from Matt Kohr's tutorials, anyone knows books that teach you how to approach digital stuff? Right now I'm having a hard time painting smoothly, knowing the materials and stuff.

I think that's what it's meant to be.
You are both correct. It is a self-portrait. Lopsided smirking is my trademark.

So I drew this thing for practice a month ago and thought Id share it. Because of college, I never had the chance to finish or color it.
http://blackarsonist2.deviantart.com/art/The-forgotten-empire-561354478
Rather link this since the image is fucking huge. Another concept art idea i created, basically the idea was a small group of nomadic humans stumble upon the remnants of what used to be a large empire that existed in the desert.
Don't know if this is worth posting here but I'll try anyway [t]http://i.imgur.com/dtj1i9C.png[/t]
Bwaaaah ! Also found some old time-waste doodles :
almost done, feels like something is missing but I can't tell anymore... C&C welcome!
well her boobs are kind of weird. they're kind of more like clay drops than boob. also it's a bit strange how polished her rendering is when the cloak/sheet is somewhat undefined. is she the focal point, or is the bright light the focal point? the composition isn't quite right to host two points of interest, as well as those strange rock formations, the top of which are defined like scales but the bottom ones are again undetailed. but i'm sure those will be detailed when you finish.
I think the tits look alright, but personally I find the environment to be quite distracting. I can't make sense of it. Is it a cave? Some kind of canyon? Also, I feel the dragon (is it a dragon? a statue?) at the top's not really adding much. Perhaps you could frame it in a different way?
Still copying stuff but I'm improving a little [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/5eCzR0T.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]20th September 2015[/editline]
almost done, feels like something is missing but I can't tell anymore... Moved things around with golden ratio... is it a good idea? or this: I prefer the second one since the girl is the focus. NOTE: I just realized the original composition has golden spiral on the yellow highlight... so the girl seemed out of place.

A good composition is a good composition, aligning it to the spiral isn't going to make it better. In my mind the biggest thing hurting your composition right now is that the girl and the dragon are roughly the same size. One of them needs to be larger and visually dominant. Also here's a clock I've been working on for class
kind of odd for the bells to be smoother than the clock sides
Here's two more pieces of shit [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/vB6TIH2.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/O2o55E1.jpg[/img_thumb]

Enlarged the dragon and removed the overlay: I know the golden spiral won't fixed my problem, but I am just looking for tips that can learn to help composition. My composition is always shit :/

Sorry for defacing your beautiful rendering :/ In other news my current obsession is drawing vehicles as they appear in reference books. Here's some rockets I've gotten done so far
As someone who is interested in doing digital painting, but has no experience at painting whatsoever, where should I start?
