I just got some Copic markers. Where have these been all my life?
I always expected Copics to be overpriced and average then I actually got some and was like OOOHH
What's the assignment?
Had to make up a story along with three characters to go along with it. Later I'll have to draw a promotional poster for it as well as a logo.

Cool. I really like the bird.
It's a shame that anthro stuff has such a stigma to it now.
Still looking for an illustrator to illustrate with my podcast. Sci Fi / post apocalyptic / alien landscapes
Could eventually turn into a paid gig some day down the line with people fighting to have your illustrations (signed by you!) etc etc
do you start with a 3d model
I still need to figure out how to do light sources properly though.
Bah I need to post here more.
I've been learning 3D stuff this year at uni. Tons of fun, kinda makes me regret picking Graphic Design over Animation. Oh well, at least I can do units from both courses.
I've made this Optimus Prime model for Modeling/Animation units. I based it off a toy I had so it's a bit weird looking in a T pose. I rendered it using Renderman and it looks great! I haven't added the textures yet so that more fun to be had.

On a weird note when I try to export a picture from Renderman it comes out very dull compared to what I actually rendered.

I'm not kidding. I know a lot of kids come around saying "if you help we'll both be millionaires!!11!"
I'm going to turn profit within a year and need a lead illustrator. If no one here is interested, that's fine. But then I'll get one from other sources. I just would have preferred to work with someone from here since you lads are really talented and ive been here for so long.

Definitely a Gamma issue. Look up some documentation regarding proper linear workflow/gamma setups.

Scrape together some money, have someone do a little commission of what you're looking for, then see if kickstarter likes the idea as much as you do.

mostly because creationism was deaded so this is really the whole of creationism in one thread now

That's not a bad idea. Hadn't thought people would be interested in supporting a kickstarter for a podcast. Although I have gotten amazing positive reactions. So that might be doable.
What would the asking price be for some commissions? I'm running this empty pocketed, but if it could help a kickstarter, I might work a few extra hours. I'm thinking a few landscapes with vehicles in them. Nothing absolutely polished. I like the messy painted look.

Yeah... most of the people here registered on or before 2010.
I guess this is where we gather now lol

You'd be surprised what gets funded. The kickstarter would mainly be for the podcast, as that's the product you're trying to sell. The art should only be there to supplement the main product. If it's good you'll find an audience. An amazing video is key. The rewards would be posters/shirts/signed merch/ maybe a name cameo for a minor character or something.
I'd say it's worth the effort if you really believe in the project. If it flops you're in the same place as right now, but who knows? Everything starts somewhere. Just don't get discouraged if it doesn't work out; this is supplemental, not make-or-break!
Very true! Thank you. I got a merchandise donation from a fan. Decals and t shirts so I have merch sitting around.
People love my podcast, and I think the fans I do have would donate. I do really need gear. Mics, mixer, pop filter etc.

Besides I would only have a goal amount Of $300 - $700. Even calculating for shipping costs.

its best to save up a few hundred pounds before thinking about commissioning artists. no serious artist will ever work for free or even royalties; and where there's quality, a high price follows.
[editline]edit[/editline]
woops page king and no art. heres a throwaway piece i did for fun

I understand that. I'm thinking I'll wait to gain a larger listener base. I really want to work with awesome artists and pay them fairly, that's one of the main reasons I'm doing what I'm doing. Because I want to not only have a career in it, but also help artists in other fields become successful.
[editline]24th September 2015[/editline]
Beautiful "throw away" piece by the way. I want art like that for my show.
High risk = high return is correct, but you need to let people know for what they are risking if you are gonna run a startup empty pocket.

I actually have this all planned out. I have a unique product in a niche corner of an expanding market. Plus, my product is expandable and sustainable as well. Judging people's base reactions from the beginning is very very promising.
I don't expect an artist to work for free without doing so because they love the project and the world, and want to be the hands that bring it to life visually. While I am Just starting up, the fans I do have absolutely love it. And would drool over the chance to see the world, so I know their work would be appreciated.
So this project is currently a labor of Love for me and would have to be for anyone else joining up (which is why I don't expect it) I do believe, and plan, for it to be a financial success in the future. Maybe 6 months. Maybe a year. Maybe two. But I know I will make it work.
My aunt buys me chocolate because my name is Forest Gump.

(45 min painting)
p.s. I think Tom Hanks gained some weight in this...

Given the communal nature of the world the podcast takes place in, perhaps it would be interesting to experiment with a range of different artists doing one-offs or several pieces each instead of one artist doing a long-term unpaid gig. I'm interested but given how hectic the real world is (paid work always takes priority unfortunately) it's very difficult to consider committing to a long term free project. Think Magic the Gathering illustrations
I'll get back to you on the writing front as soon as I can, too. Life has been crazy, sorry!
I would be happy with any pieces! Even One time sketches. With express permission that they're allowed to be used for the show and won't be given to anyone else.
thank you for pointing that out.
If any artist is interested in doing a piece. At all. Let me know! I will make sure everyone knows who did it.
Some hand drawn stuff :
