i <3 perspective
This strongly reminds me of that bit in half life 2 where you come out of a little sewer tunnel and go out onto this bit where this helicopter attacks you, and there's a turret at the end in the direction your guy is running in that you shoot APCs which drive over that bridge with. Awesome perspective, very clean.
Not sure if this is any better, but c&c welcome
lighting is off on her. You can see that there are lights coming in from weird directions if you turn the image into grey scale.
I would say, the dirt below her look strange and have an unfinished aspect, compared to the rest of the picture which is quite detailled.
I would say, the dirt below her look strange and have an unfinished aspect, compared to the rest of the picture which is quite detailled.
This. I feel like the grass/brunge brush used here does not translate well enough for viewers to perceive it as "space that can be walked on" and makes that area warped out of perspective.
How do you configure your pen and tablet? Normally I put the buttons on the pen for changing brush and the other one being blank. To bring up the wheel I have to configure one button on the tablet to perform a keystroke. But yeah, an add-on sounds great, but there seems to be tons of color wheel add-ons out there. Any recommendation?
I'm actually really concious of my hand-health these days (nerve shit) so I use some extra (but free) stuff to help keep wear and tear down. I cut a bit off an old mouse pad and wrapped it around my pen to give it a soft (and much wider) grip, which means I'm doing the pinching-motion with my fingers a lot less. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/83454840/Quick%20Web%20Share/IMG_20150930_211715.jpg[/t] With no access to the buttons, I use AutoHotkey to remap the Q keyboard key to Right Mouse, which means I can still do all of the important things - alt+right mouse, HUD colour picker, etc. I work with one hand on the tablet and one hand resting on the far end of the keyboard - I'm big into using default hotkeys to change tools. The colour picker is shift+alt+right mouse, so for me it just becomes shift+alt+q, which is easy enough. I keep all my brushes along the side of the screen, below the navigator. Tbh I don't change brushes often enough to use hotkeys.
Would anyone like to do a One time digital painting for the next episode of my podcast? (All episodes here http://••••••••TECplylst) I'm not asking for any level of commitment but this one painting. I'm looking for a sweeping landscape of green hills, ferns and small shrubbery (Ni!) with large Grey clouds above. And the occasional ray of light shining through. I like the smudgy painted look. So I'm not looking for hours of perfection. I currently don't have money to pay out for it. But, this painting will have the distinction of being the FIRST painting for The Earth Collective. Which means when we start selling prints of all the art for the show , this will be an important piece. Any takers?
This was one of my first contact with traditional paint, took me a lot of time because I was really scared of fucking everything up, and unfortunately I had to move and this was left in my old house, now I want to make it again, but i got so used to it that I can't really see my mistakes. Gimp peeps: I need to accomplish something similar to this: http://www.vieiran.com/RulesFront.jpg A tile of unique images lined up exactly to eachother. Is there a way I can open an image exactly to the right of another one, or slide it over on a controlled increment grid?
if it doesn't have to be gimp and you already have the images you wanna line up, you can do it pretty easily with imagemagick

I made these logos for my church's branding thing cause I'm also designing the website for them. I want the little house thing to look like it has depth but I don't know what I'm doing. I'm just going to keep the first one with the negative space since it looks the best. EDIT: oop i missed the gimp part

Can anyone tell me how you're supposed to draw objects in perspective that have really distant vanishing points? Like, ones that would be off the edge of the page? Is there some kind of technique for making sure I'm on form, or should I just try and learn to eyeball it?
Well, if you want the most accurate way to do this, you'll have to do some maths. http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/perspect3.html#table So i think the better way will be to train your eyes... :D
Anyone else gonna do Inktober?
Im trying to learn 3D modeling at the moment. Been working a lot in Zbrush and Maya lately. Its a whole new thing for me, but I really love it so far. Here is a very WIP model im sculpting at the moment (trying to make it 100% from scratch instead of starting with bases). I know the hands look really weird btw. Gonna work on them.
I'm keen! What sort of timeframe were you looking at?
I know it's short notice now, but I'm looking to release this upcoming monday. So 3 days. 3 and a half if I tell my network to not release until the evening.
I've decided to take part in Inktober for the first time... I'm pretty excited about it but nervous as well. My drawings will look like shit nonetheless, but I'm just going to keep going no matter what I think!

Keep drawing vanishing lines until you can just "Do it" without insane measurements or such. Good luck!

I really like to go "fuck anatomy" and just unleash whatever is in my hand, and then characters are created. Yayyy!

I know it doesn't exactly meet the amazing standards this thread has, but I wanted to post something I did today:
I dug out my old Wacom tablet. Surprised it still works. Trying my hand at digital painting. Doing pretty bad so far. Any suggestions from anyone on how to improve?

Stick to a hard round or square brush to start, learn perspective and value. Study (aka copy while thinking about why it looks like that) a ton of photos of things you're interested in drawing. Starting with greyscale helps with getting your values right. Post something you've done here so people can help you specifically.
