I started messing around w/ particle effects to get a toon-looking fire in UE4, I still need to make the light around the campfire flicker/act like firelight, so this isn't really final, but it's getting there.
Another self-portrait, this time with a photo reference
Take special care to draw what you see, not what you think you see. The nose and mouth for example are typical "symbols". If you get your average guy off the street and tell him to do a self portrait, the chances are he'll draw an oval face with 2 elipses for eyes etc. The key is to not even draw eyes, just see the face as forms and draw them. Take a picture of your face, turn it upside down and draw it upside down exactly as you see it - don't draw eyes, don't draw a nose, draw what you see. It will typically be a lot better than an upright drawing of your face because the brain categorises and symbolises everything. If you don't know what you're drawing then you're working more like a photocopier, with no weird processing shit in your brain ruining the translation to paper (speaking of which, I highly recommend using pencil at this stage) The neuroscience stuff in it is iffy but if you can pick up a copy of Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain by Betty Edwards I would highly recommend it to anybody starting out on drawing from reference.

Woops.
Highly recommend doing photo studies, a painting isn't finished until you are happy with it, spend an hour or 5 on each one. Avoid using evil texture brushes, hard round is sufficient. Textures hide problems, hiding problems doesn't resolve them. Seriously, it makes all the difference. You could do 100 photo studies and make more progress than doing 1000 paintings from imagination.
Texture brushes aren't evil - you definitely need to nail the fundamentals before you go using them though
Got it! Thanks guys.

'Made a little astronaut ♥
I love how he has kind of stumpy legs and small arms. Really nicely animated. I can imagine him having a funny run.
I got an internship for a design position and I'm supposed to be getting my job description and such next week. The guy who interviewed me said they could teach me about designing for print and packaging and all that so hopefully it'll be fun.

3 day late response, but holy shit 111 °C? How?
Looking at his other temperatures I expect that's an erroneous reading. Having said that, back in the day I had a dust filled 8800GT that filled up with dust so bad that it loaded at 108C. I ran it like that for a couple of months before replacing it and it never had any problems :v:
Had to design some rough characters from a random set of characteristics for class, so here's José the Dwarf from Edo period Japan.
i love your art so much
Wow, how nice. Thanks. But I'm curious: what about it? I'd be interested in some feedback. What's the aspect you like?
Wow, how nice. Thanks. But I'm curious: what about it? I'd be interested in some feedback. Reminds me of when I used to play mac classic games like simcity 2000. Makes me nostalgic. Its a great pallet. Beautify made. And on top of that, its animated!
That's what I was trying for. The GIF medium really restricts me in that way to begin with, so I had to work with an extremely limited pallet.
Tried to disembodied head. It obviously doesn't measure up to the stuff you guys have but it works, I guess.
While designing a character, a friend on Skype pointed out he looked like he was wearing a leotard. [t]http://puu.sh/kFKtq/dd7209fee4.jpg[/t] I did not realise how much he looked like a typical cartoon strong man. (colours were slapped on for the leotard joke)
