I feel like our generation is meant to be dumbed down.
I'm so happy there are still some decent radio channels airing good music every now and then. There is this Danish one who plays old rock from the 50-90's using a very good selection. It's just nice to hear there are still someone who dares to play music from the past.
No such luck here. I never listen to the radio because they only play what's in the charts and pop hits of the 80's and 90's. I'd just like K-Billy's Supersounds of the Seventies or something :(
And a lot of music does have meaning; listen to something by Elbow or Muse and tell me it's meaningless.
Or Eminem. Granted, I haven't paid attention to any music for quite a while, so I don't know if he's even doing anything anymore.

Nice Underwear
The reason you think the music is worse now, that we are dumber, and that we have less influence is because of selectivity.
Of course you think music used to be better. Led Zeppelin was fantastic, and had great songs. Guess what? It wasn't the only thing on the radio back then. They didn't use to play The Doors, Muddy Waters, Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, 24/7.
Shitty music always existed, it just never made enough of an impact to be remembered.
Onto people. Why would we remember someone from the 70s who was hip and popular, but as dumb as a rock? We don't. We remember the inventors, political figures, and everyone else that matters.
The dumb people are always rampant and widespread. Humanity is generally at any given point littered with morons. Always has been, always will be.
great
thanks to your avatar i read that in carl's voice
There were songs about sex and booze in the 70's too.
Every generation thought they were dumb.
Yeah but this one seems to have gone out of it's way to kill braincells. It's like it took LSD, added some radiation and pissed on it's brain.

Shakespeare's works are littered with euphemisms for pussy.
Anyone see the movie Idiocracy (saw it yesterday, the movie is a couple of years old), i pretty much feel like that will happen to humanity.

I heard a dude listening to this in Subway the other day, I felt giving the man a hug, instead I stared at him took a bite out of my delicious Spicy Italian and walked out the store.

Except it was witty, at the time probably hilarious, and even for all his sexual euphemisms, he wrote good stuff. You won't find "hark, I desire to thrust upon a harlot this night" anywhere like you would in today's music. Except more like "man I wanna fuck a pussy tonight boiii".
Also, seeing as the first Immortal Technique song I ever heard was Dance With The Devil, I'm hesitant to listen to any of their other songs. That song is brilliant but just so horrible I refuse to keep it on my computer.

Back when Mikfoz was 20 years old
This generation can't do anything but whine about how much their lives suck, talk about how hot girls/guys are, listen to shitty music that carries no meaning whatsoever, or radiate levels of idiocy that are just unbearable. It's like they're addicted to it for some reason.
I've noticed that my classes this year (and I'm in the highest honors classes available) seemed to be lacking in class material, and even intellectual properties. But the kids in my class seem to think it's so advanced, just because of some 'large' words. The 'large' words in question were pretty standard vocabulary words taught in schools.
I don't know if I should be disappointed, or ecstatic that there will be barely any competition when I'm older.

No, it is kids. They will grow up. And the ones that do not, will be in prison or dead.
