Film:
-Expensiver
-Time consuminger
-Even more expensiver
-Still more expensiver
-Even more time consuminger
-Less freedom in post-processing
-Fewer pictures per go
-Don't fuck up your roll, or everything's gone
-If it jams, you're fucked
-You won't know how your pictures came out until you've developed the roll.
Digital:
-Lots of pictures.
-You can have a fully processed and high quality print within an hour (if you have a nice printer).
-You can see what you're doing and have instant feedback using the screen.
-The opposite of everything in film basically.
could there be a bit of a digital bias here?

Everything in that post was correct.
Do you mean DSLR?
Also, I use the Canon EOS7D. Great camera all around, has good video capabilities as well. Friendly menus and ui/button layout once you get the hang of it. Here's some example pictures I've taken with it from my flickr. However, if you're just starting out I would recommend something like a Canon Rebel XTI.

Dude, this first photo nearly made my heart stop, I just started photography this semester and that photo is absolutely beautiful! The snow in her hair, the smile, the eyes, the hair covering the face, man dude, you're amazing!
I have an SLR and I used to love developing the film.
I am going to get a DSLR (Canon Rebel) for half price :)
What are the differences between those expensive $900 and up DSLRs and those that are under $900? The picture quality, specs, and compatibility with accessories? And would you ever need those features, that higher costing DSLR cameras have, if you're just using it to take artistic types of photos with depth of field and styles like Tarana's and Perfumly's photos or do they all depend on the lenses you have? I'm planning on getting one myself as a beginner in photography.

The frame size.

Which basically means how big the picture is, how much light you capture, and the quality of the image.

I am in Film school right now and I've had this debate with people. I don't really side with one side or the other, but most of the students at my school are 100% against digital and think film is the only format that should be used because it "looks" better.
While this may be true, digital is quickly finding various ways to mimick the look of film with how advanced the chips are becoming, and being able to actually record in 24p in 1080p and more. It gets to the point where only the keenest of trained eyes (film enthusiasts, students etc) will be able to notice it, while the masses at large won't, and won't really care either way.
It's going to come down to price in the end. And companies see digital is becoming so cheap so quickly, anyone can own a full cinema camera package and go make a movie for several thousand bucks instead of renting film equipment for thousands of dollars a week.

My Nikon D50 was under $500 (refurb) and my photos were all taken with the stock lens it came with (18-55mm automatic focus). It's a 6.1MP camera, I believe. I don't see the need for anything more expensive, but I imagine if you wanted to make GIANT pictures, you might want something more. I would love to buy a tripod and a macro lens, but as a student, I just don't have the money right now, so I make do without them.
btw, OP you must have a point-and-shoot?
Here's a raw, unedited or touched up photograph I took on my 7D with an 85mm 1.4, back when I first got it.

Basically the only reason film could be considered to 'look better' is because digital SLRs cannot capture the full color range of a photo, since all colors have to be mimicked instead of an actual burnt in image of what you took a picture of on a piece of film. Usually, you could make something look a lot like film via post processing, and like barracuda said, hardly anyone would ever be able to tell the difference between a film shot and a digital shot. So basically shooting in digital is overall the better way to go for practicality, especially if you're a beginner.

it is my road
I got my SLR for a total (lens and all) of about $60 dollars.
I guess a good lens is pricey but otherwise film cameras are not expensive.

That is a really nice picture, especially considering you took it while in a moving vehicle.
Shoot at a show I attended. Loved the bassists expression, had to get a shot.

The lighting was terrible. Had to shoot a high ISO and use a pretty high f-stop 'cuz I would have been trampled by the coked up fuckers in the pit.

Is that a yes, then?
lol here's more recent photos just to show some of the capabilities of the cam
I was seeing just how shallow I could make this while still having a soft yet vibrant detail. Made my own picture profile for the colors to pop too.

Not to be a dick or anything but they're better than what you've produced, by a long shot.
