Horribly blurry. Looks like you had too fast shutter speed.
You mean slower shutter speed...if it was higher it wouldn't necessarily have that blur.
I wonder why, you really know what you're doing. Youd' get lot of views over devart. Even I got many of mine added to "picture of the month" albums and shit when I posted my shitty photography, so they have really low standards there. You'd be godliek.
Thanks. I actually have a DA account, I just don't use it that much.
Just bought a Canon EOS 450D with a couple of lenses today so here's a picture of a sad lion.
Can i get some advice off you guys? I'm thinking of purchasing a camera in the near future, The camera i would like is a Canon 5D MKII, however it's around £1800 and i cant afford that right now, however i would when i finish college, cause i'll get a full time job. Or purchase a Nikon D3000 now, with some nice lenses. Should i just wait for like 2 years to get the canon, or purchase a nikon in a couple months, and then possibly get the canon in 2 years?

The kit lenses and the 100$ 50mm do just fine for most photos, lens from the L-series isn't any magical tool to great photos. You could use it, and then use the same optics with 5D if you really need a full-frame.

I've got a Rebel Xsi, pretty nice camera. I suggest picking up a used body and skipping the kit lens and get something like the nifty fifty 50mm f1.8 as it should help teach you more about photography then just using the stock zoom kit lens. I'd avoid the nikon D40 and others without the auto focusing pin. While some say it isn't a big deal it keeps you from buying some cheaper lens that lack it. You can pick a cheap used body on keh.com, a Canon 40D goes for like $600 used and a Xsi for around $400. But don't drop a large amount of money a camera if you aren't sure or anything, and since you're starting out you'll probably take the same pictures regardless of your body. Gear doesn't make the photographer.

I've got a Nikon D40 with 18-55, 50, and 55-200 lenses. It's been treating me a lot better than my point and shoot camera! Once I picked up my 50mm lens everything changed for me, the DOF is amazing. This makes me think that lenses are the most important part of your kit, except now for the fact that my D40 does NOT support auto focus with my 50mm, which has left me with thousands of out of focus pictures. I'm going to be upgrading to a Nikon D90 soon, in hopes of the autofocus and video mode
you should never be using autofocus, you want to be in control of everything
you should never be using autofocus, you want to be in control of everything
50 bux says this man hasn't used manual focus for long [editline]02:31PM[/editline] manual focus is a fucking bitch even with a proper split-focusing screen for anything that moves
I find difficulty focusing manually in low light conditions, any tips? I always seem to get it slightly off,
I find difficulty focusing manually in low light conditions, any tips? I always seem to get it slightly off,
split-screen focusing screen

I make videos, so i've had experience with focus in video. Excuse me for my naivety.
I have used manual focus for a long time, however not on DSLR's. I make videos, so i've had experience with focus in video. Excuse me for my naivety.
Well naturally it's a different thing with videos.
Well naturally it's a different thing with videos.
Yeah i know, i just thought you'd be wanting to control the focus too in a photo, and not let the autofocus take over.
OP a tip if you were looking into Nikon DSLRs; make sure you know if they are AF-S or AF as it alters the amount of lenses that are autofocus compatible with it. I think it is any camera below the Nikon D70 that are AF-S? (Including the Nikon D5000 and Nikon D3000) I, personally, own a Nikon D60 with a 35mm Prime AF-S lens and a crappy stock 18-55mm lens. The 35mm has helped me out a lot and really helps get sharper images and better DOF.
nah it's outta focus, the lens is very wide and tends to distort things this one is ~30 second exposure http://wanderous.net/home/azcfw.JPG
That first picture, how did you do that?? I have an assignment for night photos due next friday and I really want something like that.
Yeah i know, i just thought you'd be wanting to control the focus too in a photo, and not let the autofocus take over.
There's nothing wrong with using autofocus. Pointing the focus point at the subject, auto-focusing, holding the focus then recomposing for the shot is no different than manually focusing and it can be quicker and more accurate. I understand that with video, it can obviously make a difference because the actual focusing is recorded and you cant focus on what you want and recompose whilst recording.
I think since the market for DSLRs has been saturated with so many, "consumer," models that one would say, "Who hasn't gotten a DSLR already?"
Nikon D3000: Latest cheapest Nikon DSLR. Uses SD. Canon rebel: Latest cheapest Canon DSLR. Uses some other card. Canon T2i: Best if you want to shoot video as well. Canon 5D: Top of the line photo and video. Used to shoot the season finale of house. I'm of course going by the fact that OP meant DSLR not SLR. I would stay away from Pentax. Canon or Nikon is the best way to go.
Getting the t2i this month, I wanted the cool 7D features packed into this camera, they call it a mini 7D, I'm limited on cash, so w/e 899 for t2i vs 1699 for 7D is good for me
Have you ever shot, developed, and printed in film? :c
Yes, it's time consuming, but fun.
I have The Canon 450d (Rebel XSi) with me and just gonna dump 1 photo that i liked very much. Here's a SUPER-Cropped shot of the moon:- Camera: Canon EOS 450D Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125) Aperture: f/5.6 Focal Length: 300 mm Lens:- Canon-EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM
you should never be using autofocus, you want to be in control of everything
Do you realize how fucking hard it is to get something perfectly in focus on manual with a 50mm /1.8 lens?
OP needs to change his name [editline]09:30AM[/editline] btw i have an xsi
Since we're having a digital gangbang with pictures and aritistics I hereby drop these: Edit: I just realized I love DOF.
You think that's DOF? This is DOF, my crappy 300mm with 2x TC (and the sensor gets 2x so 1200mm lol) with 5.6. (Not edited)
Olympus or Pentax?
My mate's got a 5D Mk2, I had a bit of a prat about at it doing some on set production photography Very, very cool
