I, 27 years old, only play Rocksmith 2014 now.
Looks like I lost the game.
I have been playing video games for 25 years, and I havent played anything for a long time now. I used to spend at least 6 hours a day, but now all I do is watch other people play games on youtube. I wonder what went wrong. Its not like I have a GF or a job at the moment, so its not the daily grind that keeps me away.
Sometimes I wonder if I have simply seen it all, or if I have just "figured them out". After a while you stop seeing trees, monsters and buildings, but textures and models, hit percentages and rails instead. You can predict enemy behavior and the sounds are more famiiar that the lyrics to the national anthem. It just feels... dull.
Man I didn't know I wasn't alone in this. For a while I was happy with games, then started pirating random shit that seemed interesting instead of going through my legally-acquired backlog, now I barely touch anything.
I want to setup one of the consoles I have and go through some exclusives, but some part of me feels like that time is better spent dicking around on the internet.
It's called growing up. I'm 23 now and the last game I bought was GTA 5, and I haven't played it for a year
for me its
buy an old classic title
never play it ever
then I look at my library, sighing at all the money I could have spent on "Not played"
"oh man, PSP games for $3!" "These'll be fun" buy, get home "yep these look great on my shelf."
Dude don't worry. I went through this stage. I didn't play games for months and months. And I was like you. I just eventually didn't find interest in them. But one day I had nothing to do. So I decided to start skyrim again and boom, I played them again.
I occasionally go through this, but then I play a game that I haven't played for ages and everything returns to normal.

This... This is beautiful

This.
Games become really dull when you figure out the perfect tactic (more like exploit in the AI or economy, etc). In X3: Terran Conflict for example, mining becomes pointless when you learn how to exploit Nividium and it pretty much breaks the game.
I did have a lot of fun with new releases like Skyrim, DX:HR, the new Wolfenstein and Dishonored. But I don't feel like playing them more than once. I mainly play flightsims now and a little bit of STALKER when a new mod is released.
If you find it really hard to enjoy anything and not just games then that can be a sign of depression.
Sometimes, very rarely, I'll become super excited about one game. I'll play six hours of it, three days in a row. Then one thing goes wrong, I ragequit, then forget what I ever did outside of playing that game. I feel pretty bad after that, takes a few days to go back to my regular schedule
I used to play a lot more when I was a kid probably because I had less things to do.
Now you've got work, friends, significant others, parties, there are problems you've got to solve, some are related to work and some to your or your friends personal life, and also I just enjoy casually spending time with my family, just drinking tea and talking, that kind of stuff. Other times you just want to throw yourself on the couch or bed and enjoy the peace, while it used to be like this during childhood:
School -> Bright outside? Play outside / Dark outside? Play videogames
As someone grows older, there's a lot more he wants to do, see and experience. There will probably always be a good time for a bit of video games, but it just hasn't got the top priority. Life just gets ever more complicated, and free time has to be managed differently, not to mention that you just get new, more exciting, fulfilling or important things to do with age. And maybe that's what you want to do, and that's why you're getting bored. Boredom for your body is a way of telling you that you want to change things up, it's a tool used to send your consciousness a message. You should try to work on that.
I honestly don't think this is something to be sad about - growing up that is. If you play your cards right, do what your heart and mind wants to do and get kind of engaged in life, in it's various aspects and experiences, you'll get more happiness and fulfillment than you could ever get out of your childhood and video games, and on a side note I'm sure video games would be fun again, but at this point you wouldn't care too much about that. You won't get anything if you don't act, however, in which case I suppose I can see why somebody could think that childhood was a nicer experience. One had to put in less effort to have a decent amount of satisfaction, while now one has to put in more effort, but has the opportunity of getting satisfaction and fulfillment he hasn't felt before, greater and better, almost beyond comparison.
You know, if you guys are tired of the newer games just go back and play some old ones. There's literally plenty of material to work with.

That's what I will usually do. The other day I hooked my GameCube up and played Skies of Arcadia: Legends for a while.
I don't think you're depressed, but it's clear that you're pretty sick of gaming. I've been the same way for about 3-4 years now. All I do when I'm on the computer is browse FP and Youtube, occasionally playing a game for a short time.
This is me basically.
Unfortunately my dad gets pissed if I'm watching YT or on FP and for some reason doesn't give a shit if I'm playing games, which is an issue, because there isn't much I want to do.

There's 3000 channels and nothing's on.

I mean I could call up some friends and have a Guitar Hero party but that's less about the game and more about the people, which is what makes it fun.
I think everyone feels like this sometimes. Maybe take a month long break all together, go explore your community or something before winter comes and then come back to gaming after the snow falls.
I'm currently feeling the same way but I've picked up guitar and cooking lately and I'm having a blast! Hope it all goes great for you
The reason why you might not want to play newer games is probably because they lack innovation.
Now what do I mean by that.
I mean most newer games (that I've played at least) are fucking boring.
By brothers always look forward to the next shiniest thing. But I just want to set up the PS2.
That's why I'm going to replace the Wii with the PS2.
Until, like after the release of GTAV I have just gradually stopped playing games, just cant be arsed with it anymore.
Like, I might play the odd game now and then, but generally I just cant be bothered to play games, I have other hobbies that I'd rather pursue to be honest.
