I love is anime! For an anime it is dark, and shows just how cruel and cynical people can be to each other. [sp]A father who turns his own daughter into a talking chimera just to keep his state alchemist position. And 2 years ago did it to his wife as well. That's twisted. A butcher, who murders his own wife and two brothers who both go on a killing spree, when they are caught they are not executed but have there souls ripped from there bodies and placed in a suit of armor, and ordered to guard a laboratory and kill all intruders. A former state alchemist who is imprisoned for killing his own chain of command, only to just be reinstated as a state alchemist again. He uses the sulfur in the human body to create bombs. And he thinks there is no greater sound than the "boom" and the body parts that fly everywhere. A group of black ops soldiers who are order to intentionally start a civil war that last 7 years. Who are then later betrayed and used as experiments for chimera research.[/sp] Kimblee, Dorochet, and the Slicer Brothers are my favorite characters.
You should spoiler tag those.
I finished watching Brotherhood yesterday, liked it much more than the original one.
Never heard of it before. I don't usually watch Anime either. Only anime I've watched is Vampire Hunter D and Elfen Leid (sp). I think I might add this to my list because it sounds pretty cool.
Is it me or does the ending song sound like it sung by Americans
Which one are you talking about ?
I don't understand though, are FMA and FMA:B completely seperate? Like if I only watch FMA:B will I miss anything important that was in FMA?
I don't understand though, are FMA and FMA:B completely seperate? Like if I only watch FMA:B will I miss anything important that was in FMA?
The original FMA cartoon was created back in 2003 and ended in 2005 (i think), while the official manga was still airing till 2010. The people that made the original anime couldn't wait for the comics to be released, so they made up their own storyline.
FMA is okay. It's got some interesting themes and what not. However, if you want to watch something that's actually deep, I would recommend Kino's Journey. I might make a thread about it when I get back from Ukraine.
FMA starts off similar to the manga, then devolves into some sort of strange plot. FMA: B follows the manga to the end, which makes for a much more enjoyable (and accurate) experience.
I really enjoyed watching the 2003 version, and the film (some random plot elements, but was still a good story). But I loved brotherhood, much better story and had a much deeper story. I'm hoping the next film is as good.
I've not watched Brotherhood yet i only wanna watch em dubbed.
Ew.
Wow, that's a lot of characters
Wow, that's a lot of characters
That's not that much for a series that lasted almost 10 years
[sp]Isn't King Bradley a homonculus?[/sp]
I recommend watching Brotherhood first, it is by far the best one. Completely forget anything you saw in the original. The story in Brotherhood is gritty, the art is amazing (wouldn't expect any less from BONES), the story is deep, the characters are more meaningful and the action is intense. Saw the entire series subbed and loved it, Eclipse did a great sub job.
[sp]Isn't King Bradley a homonculus?[/sp]
[sp]Yes, in an experiment to create a new form of Homunculus, there were a bunch of people taken and raised solely to claim the title of "King Bradley". When the time came to decide who it would be, the scientists tied down each contestant and poured a Philosopher's Stone into their blood. If they survived the procedure they would become King Bradley, if they didn't they would die. All the contestants up to the one we know had failed, but Bradley had survived, albeit with his right eye melting from the procedure. He was given a new eye with the Ouroboro logo on it and wore an eyepatch to conceal his status as a Homunculus while he took the leadership of Amestris. He's the Homunculus known as "Wrath", and because he was created from a human the Xingese don't detect him as a Homunculus.[/sp]
[sp]Ourobos.[/sp]
[sp]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouroboros[/sp]

Great manga, great animez, recommended for even the most hardcore animehaters
recommended for even the most hardcore animehaters
I must say I agree on this. I generally don't like anime, but this is the best animated video/series I've ever seen. Also, if the leader of your country goes on solo-missions with 6 swords to eliminate some of the most dangerous threats out there, you know you have a badass leader. Bredley is so goddamn awesome.
talk about a circlejerk [editline]07:14PM[/editline] brotherhood is p good tho
-snip-
I added another section to the OP, the Dictionary, so you would know what the FUCK am I talking about in the OP, and what the fuck is a Homunculus and what the FUCK is transmutation. Sorry for the pointless bump and doubleposting
I love fullmetal alchemist, and this thread has a lot of interesting stuff in it. Love the effort put in it.
I've considered watching this anime, but I don't know. How many episodes are there?
60, that's not much for an anime
60, that's not much for an anime
Spread over how many seasons?
Just one!
There are 2 shows, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Britherhood. Watch Brotherhood
60, that's not much for an anime
That a lot for anime series actually, unless you count stuff like Naruto, One Piece, and other shows pretty much hated by most anime communities. Most legitimate series are only 13 or 26 episodes.
60, that's not much for an anime
Yes it is. Pretty much every series is usually 12/13 or 24/26 episodes long. There are only a couple of (incredibly shitty) shows that go in the hundreds (naruto/bleach/one piece etc). Except Legend of the Galactic Heroes, that one is long as fuck but it's one of the greatest series ever created.
Oh well, I fucked up
