Are you stupid? The rating is there for a reason, which is to get you to not buy some brutal, drug filled game for your seven year old, just like movie ratings are. And to make it illegal to own is just retarded. Oh, and for the record, M means 17, not 18.
M means 17, but the AO category is so hard to get that I just refer to M rated games as 18s.
Farcry: Instincts was the first violent video I've ever played, and I'm probably the least violent person in my whole school. The aggressive ones are the jocks.
You can need something and still want/enjoy it. A classic example of this is cigarettes. Food could fall into this category however people seem to have the idea that simply because the outcome of going cold turkey on your food addiction is negative, that this makes a need for food not an addiction. This is not the case.
Food addiction: affecting 100% of today's youth
ITT: Anecdotes ahoy!

I was never restricted because, WHERE THE FUCK WOULD I GET A ROCKET LAUNCHER FROM?!?!
I was never restricted because, WHERE THE FUCK WOULD I GET A ROCKET LAUNCHER FROM?!?!
Wasn't there a kid in America that got a shotgun for his birthday and shot his dads fiance with it? So you could get Rocket Launcher from your dad.
It's like saying rape is caused by toothpaste since it's found in most rapist's homes. Blaming a common household item on a crime is completely idiotic. And even if there is a relation, it's still stupid to waste time on banning it when the real culprit is bullying (IRL bullying), and the kid not getting the help he/she needs.
More like "rape is caused by cartoon porn" Which is a vaguely possible link. Video games are as much a blame in this sort of stuff as movies; there are crazies out there, and their minds could be shaped by the media they take in.
Video games rarely cause problems unless the players are mentally unstable.
Another game you can use to gradually introduce kids to violence and such is TF2.
Another game you can use to gradually introduce kids to violence and such is TF2.
Just dont let your kid use a microphone.
I've had Doom 64 for as long as I can remember, I got punched in the face and I was like: :geno:
I will have to e-mail this to my friend, his parents dont let him play/watch 18+ games, and he has to go to bed at half past seven along with his little sisters. This kid is 15 years old. Maybe it's because he is ginger?
No references for you.
Yeah, who needs sources? We can just make stuff up without any proof and everyone is happy. Excellent guide, I'm glad someone as experienced in parenting such as yourself wrote this brilliantly researched guide, rather than it just being written by some guy who doesn't actually know anything about what he is writing about.
Just dont let your kid use a microphone.
That too.
It should be illegal for anyone under 18 to buy, own, or play a rated M game.
Only if the majority of rated E/E10/T games were good. Or at least great compared to the last generation.
The way I see it, if a parent doesn't let their kid play 18s, they just go to their mates house and play them there anyway.
I agree to everything the guy says. I hate it when parents call video games are evil and shit just because their children acts violent after playing it. It's not the game's fault, it's your child's fault for not being able to separate fantasy from reality. I played the GTA series from when I was 10 and I didn't do any stupid shit like running over civilians in real life.
Uhhh, children aren't supposed to be able to separate fantasy and reality as easily as an adult or teenager. That's the point of them playing lava monsters and playing with toys and shit like that.
I was never restricted because, WHERE THE FUCK WOULD I GET A ROCKET LAUNCHER FROM?!?!
What does a rocket launcher have to do with anything?
What does a rocket launcher have to do with anything?
You can't kill a person without a weapon. One type of commonly used weapons in the games is a rocket launcher. Rocket launchers are not easy to get in real life without attracting attention. Logic?
It should be illegal for anyone under 18 to buy, own, or play a rated M game.
I agree, the amount of times I've been deafened by a child screaming is silly high.
My brother is 2 years older than me. My parents allowed any game that was rated no more than 2 years above his age, and they let me play them too. So, when he was 14, I was 12, and I was allowed to play games rated 16. Never did me any harm.
You can't kill a person without a weapon. One type of commonly used weapons in the games is a rocket launcher. Rocket launchers are not easy to get in real life without attracting attention. Logic?
None at all. Just because you can't get a rocket launcher doesn't mean you aren't more aggressive. I think anyone who says that games cause these re-enactments are dumb, but anyone who denies the fact video games can increase aggression are just as dumb.
It should be illegal for anyone under 18 to buy, own, or play a rated M game.
No. Just no.
Juggernog you should start an arc and adopt kids who can't play violent video games.
Well, I'm sure the OP was completely unbiased, obviously written by a person over 18 with little to no interest in videogames nor parents who refuse to buy them for him.
School shootings are done by kids who have mental disorders, never by some random kid who thought it would be fun to shoot people because he did it in a game. Infact, games have never been linked to any school shooting as far as i know.
It should be a store policy deal. However, I think a lot of M rated games should be considered 18+ games and only sold to people 18 over.
Wal-Mart flat out refused to sell me CoD MW2 despite me being three days from being 17. GameStop only asked me if I was aware that the rating was M.
Wal-Mart flat out refused to sell me CoD MW2 despite me being three days from being 17. GameStop only asked me if I was aware that the rating was M.
Yea, that's Wal Mart's choice, and that's Gamestop's choice. I don't think games with M and below should have any law regarding their sale. However I think quite a few more games should be AO instead of M.
