Avatar had good 3d, added to the immersion instead of using it to throw stuff at you.
I hate when youre in a 3D movie, and you lean over, but your eyes arent level and the whole thing gets blurry.
Or if youre ALL the way on one side of the theater, near the front... you see that one side is darker than the other, one eye sees a darker image...
3d makes some movies amazing. if youve seen avatar or how to train your dragon in 3d you know what im talking about. its a really enjoyable way to watch a movie

Moomins and the Comet Chase
Moomins? in 3D?! dude, i wanna see that so bad now.
no seriously, at least it's not anaglyph. anyways, V-interlace is coming , with the onset of 3D TVs. at least they don't make you try to watch side-by-side(no need for glasses, just cross your eyes)
Honestly the 3D in Avatar was uncomfortable to watch. The film looks like something is really far away/close up, but really you have to focus on the screen to see it clearly. And the image is really dull, a normal film looks much brighter.
I'd much rather they stop their bullshit and start making films in 70mm again. Maybe even with a higher framerate because 24fps is getting oooolld.
Nonono.
It took me over 1 hour to figure it out, but you need to stop focusing, at all. When you focus, look around and look at things it's bothersome and hurts your eyes over time.
What you need to do is relax and let your eyes just wander over the screen like you normally would. Then you see the whole film like you normally would, but with the 3D depth.
Noticed "Newt" on the list and got excited for a new Alien movie.... fuck you Disney (quick google search). Looks like this is gonna be one craptastic year for cinema.
At least there's a few decent ones on the list.

The glasses refers to my prescription glasses by the way.
I just saw in the news that people will make commercials in 3D... add it to the OP.
Thats already happening.

holy crap I never knew these were being made
do want
Tintin is cool and all, but "the secret of the unicorn" sounds gayer than an all-male orgy playing Robot Unicorn Attack
its about a pirate ship and treasure and shit dumbass
It is definitely an overused gimmick.
I hate 3D, and until I don't have to wear those absolutely retarded glasses, I will continue to hate it. I mean there are some things that I wouldn't mind watching in 3D like The Mist or maybe even some of the new Gamera movies, but some of these are so fucking unnecessary. Like SAW in 3D, that's just stupid.
If a movie was designed from the beginning to be in 3d and filmed that way- I have no problem with it.
I have a major problem with movies that are filmed in 2d then converted. I can do without those, in fact I'm no longer paying the extra money to see those, I just watch the 2d version(if I see the movie at all).
edit: So far, Avatar is the only modern 3d movie designed to be 3d from the beginning.
Oh no, read the book! You're missing out if you don't read it - Rowling's writing style makes it so it's like a movie's playing in your head and then bam! it's 5 am.
Yeah, I know. And another problem with the movies has been that traditionally, they were much more awesome movies in my head. But with Half-Blood, my feeble imagination paled in comparison. And 7 is looking to be even better. So why even bother with the book?

If you don't focus everything is blurry. That's why you focus, to make it sharp.

Nobody cares about your repressed homosexuality, the ship is called the Unicorn, and it sunk to a pirate attack and has a secret. Title makes sense.
Unicorns can be awesome, they don't all have to be pink my-little-ponies flying on a rainbow and farting sparkles all day.
because mrs weasley says bitch in the book and that might be cut
3D sucks, why do we need this? What's wrong with watching a movie regularly, We don't need to wear these stupid glasses while we're watching a movie in theaters, seriously.

That's... so fucking awesome.
Not as awesome as the Heliodisplay.
And 3D isn't entirely shit. Most of what made Avatar look good was the fact that it was in rather convincing 3D.
Spy Kids 3D was anaglyph 3D, the new films (and commercials) use Polarization, which gives MUCH better results.
What he said.
Avatar used it brilliantly, I was so much more connected to the movie while watching it because the world that the story took place in was so fascinating and interesting, the 3D effects enhanced that feeling a lot.
While 3D is useful, it should not be the center piece of the movie. I do think though that it definitely immerses you in the movies more.
Speaking of Spy Kids, I haven't seen them in years, I remember them being in that portion of time where "I should be too old to enjoy this, but this is fucking awesome".
Wait a minute, I just checked, the wikipedia article must be wrong or I saw a re-release in theaters, there was no way I was 10 when the third Spy Kids movie came out.
I'm not sick of it, mostly because it's getting better. Avatar was the first movie I've seen that didn't use its 3D for gimmicky shit and it actually helped the immersion.
Up looked good in 3D. :colbert:
Toy Story 3 is the only Movie in that list worth seeing in 3D, just like I saw the 1&2 Screening in 3D.
3D is just one massive fad now, even though the technology has been around for how long now?
wow, few years ago people want 3D everything. 3D games, 3D movies and now you want 3D viewing to go away? Come on, with this 3D stuff, someone is bound to invent HOLOGRAPHIC MOVIES one day!
People seem to think it's the future, some directors see it as big a jump as black and white to color, or silent movies to recorded audio.
It's not going away.
The wolves in The Day After Tomorrow were laughable beyond belief.

3D has come and gone like 3 times.
The wolves in The Day After Tomorrow were laughable beyond belief.
what does that have to do with this thread?
COMING SOON IN 3D
Also available in 2D
lol

yeah but considering the vast improvements they've made with 3D lately (depth perception), and with the introduction of 3D TVs and 3D Blu-rays, and the significant amount of ticket sales going towards seeing the film in 3D, it's not unlikely to think it might just stick around this time.
lol

Yes but it has been improved vastly, both in ability to produce and present.
Very few theaters were capable of showing 3D movies when it first came out, now its practically a given.
I love 3D films, the good ones, like Avatar. I have heard horrible things about clash of the titans.
This is basically like saying that Import cars suck, cause some kids badly glue spoilers and bumpers to them. :iiaca:
