I have the ominous feeling that Mr. Romney's going to be the victor. I'm almost positive of it.

On my local news they said Romney will win because the Redskins lost.
wot?
One of the main reasons I really don't want Romney to win (among the obvious) is because of the whole Iran situation.
How do you guys think he'll handle it? I'd really prefer not to become cannon fodder.
ominous and onerous

it's one of those stupid streaks that are meaningless and this one in particular was broken in 2000 and 2004(they just adjusted the rule each time so the streak wasn't broken)
So is it true that we'll have to wait a while before we actually find out the results of the election? My Government teacher said so, although he also said the wait for an official victor won't be nearly as bad as Bush vs. Gore in 2000.

it's possible that we'll have a good long wait(until early in the morning, perhaps, like 2004), but it's far from certain

Well, okay, until morning isn't nearly as bad, seeing as I won't be able to stay up to see all of the coverage. I just want to find out what happens within a reasonable amount of time. This election is like waiting for Christmas morning, only instead of confidently waiting for presents, I'm waiting to find out if I get candy or coal in my stocking.
Edit: Oh, and thanks!
there is also a not-plausible-but-still-kind-of-possible chance that Ohio could come close enough to require a recount and Husted shits it up for a good bit of time, but that's about it.
Oh, please, Husted's barely even tried to hide his attempts to suppress the vote in Ohio.
LOL the Obama campaigns called him out on it and he's in federal court over it. No courts going to allow what Husted's doing, he's squirming under their heel.
we'll see what they say Nov. 17.
Provisional ballots or not, I doubt it will swing the election.
Sam Weng, who has a better track record than even Nate Silver, has Obummer at a 99.9% chance of winning.

A lot of the probability that Romney could win in Nate's model is the chance that the polling is all biased in Obama's favor. If you took that away I bet Nate's model would come close to this one.

Ohio law provides for an automatic recount if the margin separating the candidates is within one-quarter of a percent of the total votes cast.
so it would have to be .25% difference between the two candidates.

why do you think i put so much emphasis on how small a chance this has of occurring

That is...wonderful news, actually. Rather comforting. But that seems a way too good to be true.
According to some conspiracy theorists, Romney will win the election by electoral fraud. Calling it!
Will the election be streamed anywhere, and in how many hours is the election precisely? I live in Sweden so a pacific time doesn't say anything :v:

I think the BBC has a live stream and there's a technically unofficial but almost certainly sanctioned given how popular it is feed of MSNBC floating around. I think C-SPAN also has one.
The results start coming in at 6PM and the last polls close at like 11PM, of course, it can take much longer for the race to actually be called. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go past midnight.

There's a lot at stake this election. This event could have the potential to slightly/moderately influence world history for the next 4 years.

2 supreme court nominations
9-11 was bad.
you have to a be hugely ignorant to think a president only has an effect on policy and discourse during his term and then it immediately stops afterwards
2 supreme court nominations
Big deal.
Shall we start making Electoral Vote predictions?
I think that if there is no election fraud, Obama will win 290 to 248.
If there is enough voter suppression to swing any of the states, then Romney would have a good chance at taking Colorado and Ohio, where Obama's lead in the polls may not prevent a swing to the opposite direction. BUT ALL THAT IS ME BEING PARANOID ABOUT HUSTED AND ROMNEY'S SON BUYING VOTING MACHINES IN OHIO AND COLORADO THROUGH BAIN CAPITAL
:I seriously?
It isn't like the Supreme Court hasn't already worked in favor of big business and destruction of civil liberties.
I mean, Obama is obviously preferable, but it really doesn't shake the nation either way.
Really hoping that we'll get to keep two dems on senate in Michigan, have one on the line tomorrow.

It incredibly does for anyone who is not a straight white Christian dude

It does a little bit, not a whole lot.
The Supreme Court is the final say on any major issue.
The only way we can come close to solving just a few of our major civil rights problems would be if Obama appointed two Liberals to be in the Supreme Court
