What Are You Thinking? v. ZnT and his Merry Band of Klansmen

good morning everyone
That's the thing about being the ideas guy though. If you wanna get things done beyond that, you're definitely gonna wanna compensate people.
You'll probably get very sub par art if you're not offering anything in return. And for something like pixel animations, that's something you don't wanna skimp on, especially if you want something that's even remotely quality.
I'd keep working on your game idea, and if you're super serious about it, start shopping around for artists and get a sort of imaginary budget in your mind of how much you would need to make sure an artist can get paid for and fed, in a manner of speakin', y'know?
Art is hard and time consuming. It's kinda no fun when you work for hours for something that's not even yours only to receive nothing in return for it.
I guess.
I mean it's just a simple game, it would be my first game, all I need is a room with furniture, 2 sprites for each Character walking/crawling/crouching position.
24 sprites for the Playable Character, and another 24 for enemies, though with alternate colors.
So around 48 animated sprites, 2 sprites per position, so for Crouching, Crawling and Walking. Probably even less for the enemies, maybe half so 12.
I do not post anywhere near enough to get gold any time soon.
It's okay there's nothing exciting about gold anyway.
I guess.

I dare you to make it out of cropped shutter shock images

3 Positions x 2 sprites = 6 x 48 characters = 288 sprites in total.
It may not sound like a lot, but it literally takes me like 3-4 hours to do one piece of art and while pixel art may take a considerable less amount of time and may not seem very difficult, you're also talking about finding a means of fluid animation without it lookin' janky.
That's days, if not WEEKS worth of work for no pay.
I mean like I said, you MAY be able to find someone who will do that! Not saying you can't, but it's not the fairest deal.
Speaking of giving artists money, I might be receiving a commission I ordered a few days ago today. I'm excited for this one.
I never thought to light a cigarette with a toaster, but without a lighter i had to get creative
I'm sorry if I'm coming on really strong woops I don't mean to lmao I'm just an artist I guess and I like to see other artists gettin' paid for stuff they do ~

Even a stove would be safer

I meant 48 sprites that are different positions to look animated, 2 sprites per animation, per direction. 1 frame would be left leg, 1 frame would be right leg for example. I am going for Janky MG1/MG2 frame animations.
So we got my main character, crouching would have 4 directions, up, down, left and right, that is a total of 8 frames. Then you have walking, which would be another 8, so 16, and then crawling, which would be another 8, so 24 total. Then you have I guess just walking so 8 frames, maybe crouching for detection so another 8, so 16 frames. 16 + 24 = 39 frames total.
One of these days when I get good and get some concept art that I want, maybe I'll start a kickstarter to try and make that game I've always wanted to make.

So is there just the one character? Or are there more? What about background art? NPCs? Were you looking at multiple artists or just one?
I'm just curious, btw. I think if you hammer out exactly what you need, it might be easier to see who's interested. (Though this thread probably isn't the best place to look). But laying out all your details kinda helps you visualize stuff.
I still wouldn't expect to find anyone who would do it for free, but you'd be surprised at how cheap pixels are from some artists.
You ever sneeze so hard that your chest started to hurt?
I wish I could have a Patreon, honestly, but I'm not a content creator lmao. They're really only good if you put out content on a daily or weekly basis.

I think there was a monthly option.
I imagine that unless you have a monthly huge dump of content that a monthly thing wouldn't be very useful.
I mean I could be wrong though!

One character, recolored for other NPCs to save time, Background art would be just the floor and walls with separate pictures for little details such as flower pots, chairs, etc, the computer would then generate the locations as well so the artist wouldn't have to create multiple versions.
That sounds pretty neat.
Good luck on trying to get it done tho. Making games is hard. Hope it turns out for ya and stuff.
Try checking on other, more artsy-centric sites like Tumblr too if you're interested in finding an artist to help you out.
Whoa I slept for a normal amount of time.
Whelp, looks like I've gotten scammed on an important mask purchase. What a fantastic note to end the holidays on the week I really need to be in a positive, healthy state of mind because I have a ton of work to do :).

$240 and all that excitement pissed down the fucking drain.
Imagine if Pangea still existed.
Geography would be so easy.

I don't wanna sound like grandpa but how'd you get scammed on a mask purchase?

Long story short he didn't send it. He said he did but the smug cunt just posted a photo of himself wearing it.
I've been having really bad packet loss the past few months or so and I was just driving myself crazy trying to figure out if it was something on my side. I finally just called my ISP and it turns out the entire neighborhood is having problems with their lines so sometime next week they are going to send some dudes down here to fix it. God, I'm so happy man. I thought I was just being dumb and missing something.
2 weeks until my vacation in North America!!1!69 :excited:

Can't you dispute it via Paypal/bank whatever?

I didn't use a PayPal method that would allow me to take a case out so I've gotta rely on Westpac to do something.

My friends on Facebook are laughing about it too.
