Music and modern entertainment is what people today want, otherwise it wouldn't be successful. 30 years from now, you will look back, maybe even like it, and say "music used to be good, in my time" compared to the shit in 2040.
And outside of the mainstream, there is a lot of good modern music that less than ~400,000 people actually care about.
Well, if you'd stop paying attention to only the "Soulja Boys," you might actually find something good. And, what's wrong with synths and other electronic manipulations? It allows Artists to do wonderful and creative things that could never have been done before. They can create worlds of sound the artists of the 1950s could only dream of.
Also, how exactly is society getting dumber, or is that just the angsty teen talking?
In short: you're a fucking idiot.

Thanks for using Crank That to represent the entirety of modern music.
OP is an idiot. People always whining about how (x) is getting worse when they can't be bothered to actually critically look at what they're complaining about.
I just think it's funny when these nonconformist types talk about how today's music isn't what it was in the "good ol' days" when these people weren't even an idea in their parent's heads back in the era they're speaking of.
Hell, the 1950s was the beginning of record manipulation thanks to Les Paul's multi-track recordings. Would you question his musicianship?

I'm sure he could if his head wasn't so far up his ass.

fuck off, a milli is a good song
"Soulja Boy is bad, so all music is bad"

ahahahahahaha
classical music ftw!!!1
But seriously, at first I though this, then I had some suggestions made to me by Ian D, and everythings alright.
All I will say is that nowadays popular radio plays shit. There was a time when prog rock (a genre full of very talented people) was very popular but those days are gone now.
Anyways, there still is good music, just don't look for it in mainstream radio and such.
In 50 years, who will remember soulja boy anyway?
You only like that song because it's from BioShock, you absolute SELLOUT.
Also, this is a typical rant point of view, you're missing the facts
A. Shitty music does not represent all music. This was Soulja's first song and a lot of people like it, it's about the dance he made. That's how a lot of songs of the dance rap genre are.
B. The "classical" music you apparently listen to now because of BioCock/Fagout 3 or whatever, yeah, the majority of it was BAD and had NO musical value. In fact, even the "good" songs have little musical value! A lot of the time the "music" is "sung" by people with horrid voices, the instrumentals usually aren't that rich (repetitive/experimental slamming the piano bullshit) and the lyrics/lyrical values are what would be considered crappy today.

Yeah, or an itch in their daddy's pants.

If the mainstream music sucked it wouldn't BE mainstream. I don't care if you think the general public is stupid or how rebellious and different you/your tastes are, the music is good. Listen to it. No, for real. Otherwise you're being ignorant and that's only getting you respect from the familiar crowd of ignorant junkies that complain about the fact unorthodox things need to be brought into society.
If you don't like the state of modern music, do something about it. Start a band and make the music you want to hear.
I cannot agree more, old Jazz like that is real music, love it! Todays music is really shitty... in my opinion.

That is music.
I generally don't have a problem with music today. A good portion of it is okay. But I do have a problem with this: Rappers who take good, well-known songs to use as backgrounds/choruses just because they're too cheap to put some effort into making a song. This shit right here:

Great, I get it. You're a badass. You're a playa. You've got bitches and hos and so much money/bling/ice you can swim in it. Wanna know how you got that? You mooched off of the hard work of other singers/songwriters. Now go do something on your own, without help from your posse, without a program where you use the same repetitive beats over and over and over again.
What happened to music like this?

Lil Wayne is not a rapper. He is to be classified as "dumbshit" and nothing more. He's a mockery of the genre, like an extremist to his respective religion.

Yeah it's called sampling. Some artists can actually be creative with their samples and make something into a completely new, and amazing song. Like here:

But most of the time they (mostly mainstream rappers) get lazy and make something like what you posted there.

The same thing could be applied to at least half of the "rappers" in America. Timbaland always gets a "featuring" part, and all he does is go "EY!" every few seconds.
I think that has something to do with him producing the song.
Well he should have a little more creativity than just going "EY! ... EY! ... EY! ... EY!" But I guess if he is the producer, he doesn't need to be creative.
Well he should have a little more creativity than just going "EY! ... EY! ... EY! ... EY!"
you don't know what a producer does, do you?
fuck off, a milli is a good song
If you mean this version, then yeah it is. The one that plays on the radio all the time is a piece of shit.
Also, this is an example of sampling used right, like pie_is_good stated.
You only chose an incredibly small section of music for this, i bet there was really simple and monotonous shit back then but it was crap so no one remembers it.
I cannot agree more, old Jazz like that is real music, love it! Todays music is really shitty... in my opinion..
You're too fucking lazy to find new music so you cling onto old shit and claim that it's the only valid music.
The songs you elected were probably poor examples and you had a small sample, it'd be better if you compared songs of both good and bad quality through the ages rather than just that.
Having said that, I would have to agree with you on some points. I find the main problem is that any idiot can marry an utter lack of talent and no imagination, yet still produce a hit song because of things like autotune and the like. This doesn't apply to music as a whole, but I think it's relevant
You're too fucking lazy to find new music so you cling onto old shit and claim that it's the only valid music.
Lolz, how do you find actual good jazz, soul, rnb today? I mean there are some good mordern jazz, but not much... nothing like the good old. And i don't like listening to techno, "punk", rap or all of those screaming guys.
Lolz, how do you find actual good jazz, soul, rnb today?
LastFM and music blogs.
And if jazz is all you listen to, you really need to broaden your taste.

Checked it out, but didn't find any mordern stuff of the genres =/
