Musical talent is a lot of things. Some people don't want to learn an instrument and master the art of sampling.
I see what you are saying. Though I would say that anyone who's good with making music with sampling has musical talent and found it was best expressed with sampling. People channel their musical abilities in different ways. With something like hip hop or rap whatever, if you disregard the lyrics, then the actual musical content is normally quite basic, it didn't exactly take a musical genius to create. I say disregard the lyrics because the lyrics are the important bit and I know some rappers are actually very good with words.
You're right about the normal listening with electronica style stuff. It usually doesn't work too good but it's best with distraction since it's mainly repeated beats/other stuff (no specifics because I'm not looking all that up lol) and not many lyrics. For example, the club thing. Things like videos or playing a game. Music's effect is usually highly amplified when you have other stuff going on. I know symphonies are music, I just don't like a lot of them is all. I'm picky about my music too but I don't like to call any music "bad" out of opinion because it makes people hate me and then they rant on about how rap is "fucking horrible ear melting shit," and how I'm a stupid ignorant asshole without a life or any taste for not liking whatever band it is they were talking about. (not you, just a lot of people seem to be that way towards me)
I agree with your top paragraph. For example with hl2, the more ambient music really fits whereas an epic 20 minute long prog rock song just wouldn't :v: Yep, music is such a tricky subject to talk about without someone else telling you you're "wrong" or an "idiot".
You only hate rap because you don't know what rap is. Also, Muse isn't anything new. They're from '94. Placebo as well is from '94. They both have like five or six/around that amount of albums.
He only hates rap and likes those bands because he's told to. He's just another mindless sheep.
With something like hip hop or rap whatever, if you disregard the lyrics, then the actual musical content is normally quite basic, it didn't exactly take a musical genius to create.
You're listening to the wrong rap.
I HATE RAP! and quite alot of the music coming out now but maily rap. The best new music ive heard is placebo and muse.
Placebo is good but actually, he isn't very far from rap. I really like any non mainstream rap. Aka. Common, House of Pain, La Coka Nostra
No I don't believe that. You want to believe that because it elevates you above the so-called chavs which you pretty much prove right there. Sorry, you aren't the human god you think you are. That's disgusting. Some of the most beautiful music is synthesized. Kraftwerk and Jean Michael Jarre are not good just because their wavelengths have a different source? You don't like him, so he's a moron. Us or Them mentality. Again you elevate yourself. You seem self-conscious. Yeah I "listen" to my music. :smug: Look at how sophisticated I am. It's not made for that purpose, you can't blame anyone for putting music in the background. This thread is terrible because the OP really just wants everyone to know how counter-culture and smart he is. [editline]03:39AM[/editline] Stop being so snotty. [editline]03:40AM[/editline] Musical talent is a lot of things. Some people don't want to learn an instrument and master the art of sampling.
You're probably one of the people who are actually into the deep shit that they air these days with the excuse of calling noises music. If you're into that, cool, some people are into shitty music.
Good job unnecessarily quoting a long post and making an asinine statement.
You're probably one of the people who are actually into the deep shit that they air these days with the excuse of calling noises music. If you're into that, cool, some people are into shitty music.
I can't even make sense of that.
You're listening to the wrong rap.
Maybe, point me to the right rap.
J Dilla/ Big L/ Guru/ Jay z/Lupe Fiasco If you say and good flow, beat, lyrics isn't music go fuck your little brother.. I don't wanna hear it.
Oh my god! He might have his own opinion!
J Dilla/ Big L/ Guru/ Jay z/Lupe Fiasco If you say and good flow, beat, lyrics isn't music go fuck your little brother.. I don't wanna hear it.
What do the rappers talk about in their "songs"?
(not you, just a lot of people seem to be that way towards me)
Maybe it's because of an elitist outlook on a subject. Calling something "earbleedingly awful" indicates that you think your preferred genre is factually better than the "earbleedingly awful one.
What do the rappers talk about in their "songs"?
Disregarding the asinine apostrophized comment obviously indicating that you're an elitist, maybe you should take time to read the lyrics of the songs so that you would know what they're talking about. And further more, why is it that whenever you elitist types try to criticize hip-hop, you always look at the instrumentals as your arsenal? Had it ever occurred to you that the background music isn't the main focus? When you're trying to tell a story, you can't have a fucking 34 bar guitar solo going on in the background otherwise no one will hear what you're saying. And if you need further proof that all hip-hop isn't computer generated, look no further.
you seem to be under the (false) impression music is totally different now songs were being written about smokin' lots of weed and killin people since forever
but now that music is extremely popular and it sounds like they spent all of 10 min working on it
There was shit back in the day, too. See: disco.
Terrible example
but now that music is extremely popular and it sounds like they spent all of 10 min working on it
This is another thing I hate. People base the quality of a song on how hard they think it was to make a song. Music is supposed to be about what comes from your heart, something to express what you feel deep inside. Why should it matter how simplistic it is or how hard it is to make it?
Why should it matter how simplistic it is or how hard it is to make it?
Because people are simple-minded and have to make everything absolute and controlled. Can't have anything that's hard to understand.
You're probably one of the people who are actually into the deep shit that they air these days with the excuse of calling noises music.
Lolz, how do you find actual good jazz, soul, rnb today? I mean there are some good mordern jazz, but not much... nothing like the good old. And i don't like listening to techno, "punk", rap or all of those screaming guys.
I'll have you know that even if punk isn't as polular as the late 70/80's it's still good. Techno is also good. Stop being ignorant.
They rap about shit that matters to them. They spit words that make sense. Some grew up with pain in the neighborhoods.. Yeah there were hookers and shit that is what they were surrounded by. They rap about a government that has oppressed them or they feel like they have been oppressed. EDIT: Just as there is shitty rock. These is shitty rap.
Rap doesn't have to be about how you grew up poor or the police hates you because you're black. It's just a style of music.
Listen to Dear Mama by Tupac, and you will see true rapping.
That's subjective.
I'm just saying people complain about that. But if that is what influenced a rapper then let that be what influenced them. People don't write music because its words that come out of there ass, its what has influenced them. For the most part.
I HATE RAP! and quite alot of the music coming out now but maily rap.
Wow, everyone hates rap, hop on the bandwagon and say you hate a genre of music you haven't really delved into.
The only music I like that is made nowadays is indie electronica.
Tell me this is fucking bad.
need i say more?
Exacly sir. Exactly. You nowdays see songs singed by a gangsta robot rapper talking about a girl he meet at the disco toping music boards.
I just said don't be so snotty and then you act snotty nice job bro
Because you're the king of everything that exists. You're probably one of the most pathetic users on the forums. I'd lick shit from the sewers before I take orders from you.
everything's a fad and shouldn't bother you at all
Because you're the king of everything that exists. You're probably one of the most pathetic users on the forums. I'd lick shit from the sewers before I take orders from you.
Too bad Thisispain is right and no amount of namecalling won't change that.
This thread is basically why this music forum sucks.
