i do agree with op, most music today, is pretty horrible, mostly rap though, stuff like soulja boy and lil wayne, most rock though is pretty good. some of the screamo shit is pretty.. bad, that's just my opinion though.
Popular opinion?
YOUUUUUUUUUUuuu
It seems like every year pop music gets worse. By the time i'm 64, pop music in the U.S. will be grunts and whisles and/or the sounds chimps make when they masturbate.
They have music like that now. It's called System of a Down.
They have music like that now. It's called System of a Down.
Wrong. System of a Down uses unique instruments are are overall experimental, not to mention they sound completely different from anything else. And where else am I supposed to get my political point of view? :)
Then not only is it a good product, but good music at the same time.
I think you missed the point.
not to mention they sound completely different from anything else.
Is that why my friend listens to like, 10 bands that sound the same as them, but with different people moaning and screaming?
Is that why my friend listens to like, 10 bands that sound the same as them, but with different people moaning and screaming?
Even though they're unique, they still don't stray far from the specific genre. System of a Down isn't a screamo band by a long shot. In fact, they probably only scream for no longer than 4 seconds at a time once per thirty songs. No moaning either. The vocals are great, if you can get past the tiny whining by Daron Malakian (a greedy shit,) and the instruments and style are truly unique.

Not danceable at all, btw :P
Easy to get popular without having talent today i guess.
If it's so easy, why doesn't everyone do it?
Because it's record companies selecting only a few people.
Because it's record companies selecting only a few people.
Why do you think they select those few people in particular?
What, you see a clear line in the selected people, musically speaking? They often take people that aren't ugly, and that's about it... (I'm not saying that it's ALWAYS like that...)

So you're saying they just randomly select ordinary people and try to make them into musicians? Wouldn't it be less resource-intensive for the record companies to pick people who are already good? Why would they work against their own interests this way?

She can't sing for shit, but oh look, she's Jessica's sister, so she has to be an instant celebrity.
sorry people like to categorize their music. Music is evolving.
if by evolving you mean turning into mindless shit then yes
I was JUST about to start a thread about "Beyond the Sea", and I'm glad I accidentally clicked this...
if by evolving you mean turning into mindless shit then yes
yes mainstream/pop crap is
yes mainstream/pop crap is
IMO pop/mainstream has always mostly been crap. We just remember the good stuff because it's good, and I think the same will probably happen here.
You only like that song because it's from BioShock, you absolute SELLOUT.
That may be the case for some, but not all. I wasn't born in the Era of Bobby Darin, but I've loved that song since before Bioshock was even released. I'm ure that's the case for many, so stop whining.
I actually picked up on Beyond the Sea from all the anticipation of Bioshock on the forums. People posted the song in nearly every Bioshock thread. However, I don't like it because it was in the game. In fact, I never actually had a chance to listen to it ingame. But I like the song regardless of it being in a game or not.
Money.
The record labels doing more work means they have less money, dear.
The only reason mainstream music is mainstream is because it's easy to like, and major record labels are aware of that.
The record labels doing more work means they have less money, dear.
Okay, it's not only looks that matter, that was maybe a bit short, it's something that they select these people on, but it's certainly NOT talent or innovative ideas. Paris Hilton, Lil' John, Soulja Boy, 50 cent (and don't forget that IF these guys make something good, they usually have a great producer), Green Day, ... The list goes on. Why are these people so popular? Because of their celebrity-state, their background that speaks to young people (gangsterz & da hood), their empty unoriginal lyrics that give the listeners a feeling of intellectuality or subversiveness, the list goes on, but you have to admit that talent, innovation or creativity are NOT the main criteria to select these people. But hey, that's commercial music, there's plenty of other stuff out there, I just ignore this shit. [editline]10:42AM[/editline]
Nope. Why would they work against their own interests this way?
Producers can fill LOTS of gaps: singers singing out of tune, having no timing, you name it they have a plugin for it... Not to mention that these people often DO have talent. And what's the cheapest? Coaching numerous crappy artists to get a decent result, or putting numerous artists with one good producer?
Your basing your entire opinion of music on two songs? Theres alot more music out there than Soulja Boy and Bobby Darin. Theres alot of shit music from both times, and alot of good music.
You have to dig and you'll find the hidden gems.
Because you're the king of everything that exists. You're probably one of the most pathetic users on the forums. I'd lick shit from the sewers before I take orders from you.
^ Typical elitist
