Didn't I make this thread already
I would have to say that most shit that people, here in America, listen to shit with no real instruments, just a black guy with some auto-tune singing about bitches or drugs or some shit. Now Beethoven isn't my favorite artist ever, but he has a few songs that are great. Our society's dying. Hundreds of years ago music was better than it is now.
Hundreds of years ago music was better than it is now.
Extreme Example here This is an exerpt from "I care not for these ladies", written in 1601, 408 years ago
I care not for these ladies That must be woo'd and pray'd/
An this is from a milli
dont you have a shy bitch, dont you hate a shy bitch, dont you ate' a shy bitch
:V

All of todays metal band suck because they can't come up with good riffs so they created melodic metalcore and write emo lyrics to guarantee they become mainstream.

The writing emo lyrics to guarantee becoming mainstream does seem to be a goal in a good portion of metalcore, however, though.
The only rap i listen to is Public Enemy, which isn't a very good representation of the current rap scene (as far as I know) I seriously can't see how any rap group can get cooler than this:
If you want intricate beats... here ya go. At least skip to 1:30. Very well put together.

I wouldn't say that music itself is degrading, rather, inappropriate/dirty/vulgar lyrics have become more widely accepted, and those of us who take the moral high ground (read: horse) tend to see it as a degradation. Plenty of modern music is good, but little of it is pleasing to the ears given the lyrics. The thing is, the majority of the general populace doesn't give a fish's left fin about the melodies and harmonies-- all they care about is the singing (or talking for rap ). And for some reason, society recently has been all about making yourself look tougher than others-- so if you listen to songs about committing crimes that use swearing and street-slang, you're one hardened-criminal kinda guy/girl, yeah? Prime example: Ratatat (Ignoring their remixes, those were experiments in hip-hop production and just as vulgar as the original raps, disappointingly). My personal favorite band. Their deceptively simplistic live shows are incredible. They simply play their music with a projector throwing up images behind them (The clip below actually plays at their concerts). They play great music, blending techno sampling, screaming lead guitar, killer bass, and laser-rific synth, but have never uttered a word into a mic in the recording studio. And you know what? They're incredibly obscure. Now take something like Crank Dat. The same loop. Over and over. Incomprehensible and insulting slurred lyrics. Instant classic. I really hate pop culture these days.
You have to dig and you'll find the hidden gems.
Ratatat is one of them for sure. In fact, I'm gonna go make a Ratatat thread. Right now.
Just take a few moments to look beyond the mainstream stuff, and you'll find that today's music is just as good as any other time.
I slightly agree. I'm not a fan of rap in general, but that doesn't make it bad. Soulja boy in my opinion does suck and is uncreative. A lot of rap (in my opinion of course) is like that. But not all, I've seen some good rap, Kanye West is decent, And computer generated sounds aren't all that bad. Some artists can incorporate it well. The only music I can't stand is a song with one single beat repeated over and over, while the person talks. But I guess everyone has there opinions, I think screaming is okay sometimes is good, sometimes is bad, and others love it all the time, and others think it is demonic and creepy. in short, learn to accept other types of genres and the the changes in music.
It's annoying when people talk about "modern music" being shitty, when they are really only referring to modern popular music (Soulja Boy, Nickelback, whatever).
It's annoying when people talk about "modern music" being shitty, when they are really only referring to modern popular music (Soulja Boy, Nickelback, whatever).
...couldn't have said it better.
Muse is still pretty cool, personally I love The Resistance from what I have heard. They're going back to the Queen-influenced music and a little bit of classical mixed in there.

This thread is good. Modern Popular music has become ruled by money and "fads" if something is appealing to lots of people, then all other pop music will be basic copies of that, and because the average person isn't musically educated to a good extent they can't analyse the music and listen to this shit.
Have you ever thought of digging deeper to find good music?
