Here's a sample I did for that community Skyrim city project with my "epic" voice. CC please.

but thats boring nvm
You're talking about a countdown sort of thing? I could do that, my voice isn't a movie trailer voice though, if that's what you're looking for.
I use blue snowball microphone.
Best microphone I ever used
I use the same mic, except mine is a bit smaller. It's the Blue Snowball iCE. Runs you about $70 USD and the quality is crystal clear. Great mic for the price. Great mic in general.
I've just never heard a condenser that sounds very good. All the condensers I've ever heard have this weird area in the treble and they pick up background noise in odd, counterintuitive ways. I don't even like the U87 or the Bottle.
I'm kind of picky about my mics, which is why I like to make my own microphones from scratch unless I'm just recording voice over. I like to have my mics as even-sounding and linear as possible. Why capture colored sound when you can build a reference mic, capture the sound precisely, and color it all you want in post?
Not saying that all condenser mics are worse than all ribbon and dynamics for all jobs, but I've just never really encountered a scenario where I have to use one. I suppose they are pretty useful for capturing vocals that immediately sit well in a mix. They could also be useful for some concert hall recordings as well, but I never liked any condenser I've used on violins or any other string instruments. It makes them sound really metallic.
This was recorded using my old condenser mic

That'd be wonderful, I was looking for a countdown in this sort of tone

Would you be willing to do so? If so I can PM you what I'd want, thanks
Like a very excited tone? PM me man, I can certainly try, no guarantees on results, but I'll try my hardest.
This is my microphone.

And how many of those things have nothing to do with sound.

It kind of looks like you stuck your microphone in a fox tail.
But in all seriousness, what microphone is it?
Immediatly thought of this after I read the thread title.

"professional" voice acting has low standards sometimes.
It kind of looks like you stuck your microphone in a fox tail.

It's an Audio Technica AT4071a inside a zeppelin, a Rycote modular windshield to be specific.
I don't use it for voice acting though (that's be hard, pointless and impractical) - I use it for movie shooting, since I work in movie production.
My voice is so insanely average I couldn't be a voice actor unless I went and drank whiskey every day until I turned 60.
Quick question for people who've got nice setups; I can't seem to find my lower range priced USB microphone (small loss, it was only about $40) so I have a question about a headset with mini-plugs. They generate a lot of static in my experience in trying to record high-quality stuff through my PC sound card. However, I've got an M-Audio Omni I/O with input jacks and a PC-out that I can hook up to a special M-Audio Delta 66 in the back of my PC. If I were to use a half-inch to 3.5mm jack converter and plug my headset microphone into Input 1, would it decrease the amount of static?
I would just test it out for myself if it weren't for the fact that I'd have to pull all the necessary cabling for the Omni out and set it all up to test it. Then if it didn't work, I'd have to spend the 30 minutes disassembling everything and putting it away again.
God, I am so jelly of you guys. Because I am german, I speak with a pretty terrible accent which only makes my already bad voice worse. Although, friends say I do a pretty good "epic, deep" kind of voice, so I guess I might record something tomorrow for you guys to judge.

I use one of the Rock band USB microphones when I record, and the quality is actually pretty decent (I have to put a dress sock over the top of the microphone though to act as a pop filter.) The only problem I have is when I want to hear my voice feedback. I use the windows mixer to hear my voice feedback currently, but there is a tiny delay which throws me off sometimes.
I was going to record some novice VO demos for this thread using said mic this weekend if you don't mind waiting.
what have you worked on?
Been doing it the last 10 years, I get alot of work due to my deep voice, usually movie trailers. I've done all sorts over the years. Some companies I've voiced for
Metropolis plc
Wd40
ITV
Channel 4
Nestle
Lionsgate films
Disney
EA
several indie game projects
Ploughboy Pictures
too many smaller companies to mention

Rycote S-series 450 (scratch that) and a AT 4071a? Nice!
I'm also running a K-tec 89cc and a Fostex FR2-LE.
Someone else who has the same shotgun mic as me :' )

That's actually the mic I had; I didn't want to spend a shit ton on a microphone just yet so I bought just the solo Rock Band microphone, and now I can't find it anywhere.
I recorded this rant about Tom Preston today

I just raged about him into my mic and let my voice change depending on my feelings.
Some notes:
Sorry. I forgot my second pop filter. The mic only has one on it, which isn't enough for yelling.
Also, my mic got knocked sideways on the mount for a few seconds, so my voice is out of phase for a bit.
Nice dynamics with your voice, you could make for a comical character for sure!
I just made a little reel with some voices for shits n' giggles. I did all the voices that I could pull of that were quiet cause everyone is home.

Pardon the static and the cheesy narration. I'm using my headset at the moment so it's very unclear audio. My voice is pretty shot at the moment so I figured I'd try doing this ~~deep and introspective~~ voice a la Max Payne, almost.

I'm always told by people I have a very "unique/distinct/radio/Elvis(wat)" voice. I really like doing voice-work too, and I have NO GOD DAMN SHAME in saying I love listening to my own voice.
However, does anyone have any tips? Pertaining to both my voice and THOSE FUCKING CLICKING SOUNDS I CAN'T GET RID OF IN AUDACITYGODAMNITABSHGASGDSADSTR

Ill be honest, your voice isn't anything special. Maybe if you tried modulating it into something else?
Ill be honest, your voice isn't anything special. Maybe if you tried modulating it into something else?
I'm inclined to agree, but people ALWAYS (on average maybe once or twice a week from different people) tell me I have a distinct voice. Personally I think it's because when I speak on formal occasions, such as for speeches or if I am meeting someone in a formal situation, my voice tends to be a bit deeper and more distinguished than if I was just dicking around with friends. Of course, that isn't illustrated in the clip, which is why I probably should steer clear of VA. I'm good at giving speeches (once again, so I am told) and things of that sort, but I admit I am probably not suited for actual voice acting, which requires a slightly different form of expression and emotion than a good speech does. Just felt like posting this here to give it a shot, before I start going around with a douchebag pseudo-ego, trying to bed women with a shitty impersonation of a foreign accent while they casually try to escape from my vocal cords impersonating that microphone clicking
Speaking of which, I'd still like any suggestions on how to decrease that by the way. If it is something with my microphone (Rock Band mic lol) then that is fine, because I don't intend on using it alot anyways, other than the occasional Skype call when needed or if I ever get into doing things on YouTube.
any comments on mine up above
it is the bomb
hmm, is this simply for the discussion of voice acting, or can I make requests here?
A sample I did for the Skyrim New City thread. Never voice acted before and read from a book in Skyrim.

I want to do a video with voice overs for the best 60's Spiderman images.
A bit of a bump, but I asked before that I wanted to upgrade my microphone setup. Wanted to move to an XLR mic + mixer, but I never got a response. I want to move from my AT2020 USB.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
