I'm glad you bumped this thread, I was looking for it a few days ago. I've been thinking about setting up a decent amateur recording studio for some basic voice work. I've seen some good microphone recommendations in this thread already, but what other hardware would I need for the best quality? A sound card, some kind of mixer? Also, what can I do to minimize ambient noise? I don't have a very big budget, please tune your advice and recommendations for the budget-conscious.
People say I should get into voice acting but I don't think I'm good enough for the task.
My friend did the voice acting for this.
I use blue snowball microphone. Best microphone I ever used
I have one of these things, too. It's wonderful, and the only microphone I've ever used that doesn't fuck up horribly when using audacity. Also, for the voice actor hall of fame thing I would like to request Lani Minella. She's in tons of shit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lani_Minella Might post some stuff of me actually acting later when t isn't 12:34 in the morning.
Yet another bump back from the dead! I just got a new Blue Yeti (not the Pro) for my birthday with a basic stand and cheap pop filter. I can't wait to dub serious scenes from movies with silly voices! [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Also, is a shock mount necessary?
I guess no one's interested in VA threads anymore :(
I have no experience acting, I don't ever find myself orating (or talking that much, period), and yet I find myself extremely curious. Being rather obsessed with Dive Quest, I'm sorely tempted to try my hand at voicing the main character, Muschio. Considering my microphones are barely of high enough quality to be acceptable during your average Skype call, I want to make sure I can nail this before I invest any cash. I have some challenges I'd like some help with, including general tips or common mistakes in VA, tips for a convincing Italian accent (Google's got me started but I'd like to keep digging on this subject), and a more interesting challenge; how to perform exclamations of pain convincingly (the protagonist in question finds himself impaled more than once). Any help at all is appreciated, as this might make for an entertaining hobby.

[editline]23rd October 2013[/editline] I was almost gonna buy it myself, but went with the Blue Yeti due to variable pickup pattern options
I was almost gonna buy it myself, but went with the Blue Yeti due to variable pickup pattern options
What is variable pickup pattern? If it's important enough to get your purchase I'd like to know.
What is variable pickup pattern? A single direction cardioid pickup is all you need if you intend to use your mic for VA and nothing else.
