Arukra do you ever shut the f^ck up? I told you already you don't like then go cry to your mama. You're like 10 years old kid(Maybe you are?). You not happy with that, it has to be like that. Have you ever wondered that earth has 7 bilion people and EVERYONE has different style of doing things? In my circle we do things our way, we work and leave chit chat sh%t for free time. Have you ever heard about teamwork when everyone is already assigned to their positions and everyone already knows what to do? Everyone uses their style and no one complains. Oh McDonalds really has great teamwork. No wonder their cheesburgers look like shit. In short amigos I say it last time, stop wasting my time with 10 years old crapload of complaints and do something useful with your life. I would take you more serious if you would show me at least one of you works, but so far I see only 2 pages of complaints how you're not happy. There are people who would like better to see progress of the project than tons of your messages. Stop spamming thread with useless crap or meet the consequences.
I've worked with people like you before. The ones who think they are the hottest shit since sliced bread. You know, those people who think that constructive criticism is an insult to their "masterpiece". But seriously, if you think this is good enough to sell then you really need to take a look at yourself in the mirror for a very, very long time. The thing looks like a white raisin in front of 2 plastic butter knives.

The reason everyone is complaining for posting just a bridge is because you're relatively new to the CC subforum (or at least to me, sorry if I'm just being ignorant) and they don't know what kind of progress to expect and how soon. The rule of thumb is to start small by posting in the megathreads to get your name around and show what you can do. There are a lot of new people joining and making a huge art posts (of usually sub-par drawings etc.) and it's a surefire way of getting people against your threads. It's technically very open but still quite closed community here in the CC that you've got to weave yourself into. Don't expect to just enter with a bang.
You should use a bumpmap instead of mesh on the road/pathway
If it's not realtime, then a mesh or displacement will look much much better.
I'm confused; if you're not expecting constructive criticism but ire from the community then isn't that the definition of trolling? Also, riding this "dangerous road" doesn't seem to have produced anything remarkably different from what the "gray mass" would have created. It looks like a pretty average venetian bridge right now.
Now that is the critique I was waiting. Because so far as I saw there was no constructive critique against model but me. So what do you expect? As for my bridge yes indeed it is very plain looking. Even so I did some experimenting and I am right now working on redoing the bridge. Even so this is just one little piece of the model, so I have to keep it look very simple. It is just a simple town bridge which is used my townpeople to cross the river. [editline]22nd January 2011[/editline]
You should use a bumpmap instead of mesh on the road/pathway
Believe me I tried, but the result looks like... well it doesn't look good. Maybe I should try to do it with textures on, but I don't think it would help me a lot. Even so thank you for advice. [editline]22nd January 2011[/editline]
If it's not realtime, then a mesh or displacement will look much much better.
Displacement maps should do the trick. But with the current model... hmmm. My biggest headache is stone block textures right now. If I put them on the wall, it looks like a paint. Even so I want to make it look that there is actually some stone blocks put in the wall without actually modeling them. As I have mentioned it is jigsaw like project. I make the model in some kind of form. For example I create house and a sidewalk and part of the street with it in some kind of shape. Now then I create another house or a plaza and after that I just need to "connect" those pieces in one. My town has population of 60 000. So that's about 15000 buildings(if let's say every house can have 4 people) I have to create. Looks impossible, but I found the system so in the goal to learn more and at the same to show to those who are interested I decided to put this into forums as one way or another I would welcome any critique (RELATED to my project or model, but not me). The design is up to me, but the way of modeling or for example if model looks to plain or boring please tell me right away. But please CONSTRUCTIVE critique, but not like for example: This looks boring or this is stupid idea. It would be nice if you could tell me exactly where YOU think it is better or neccessary to change things. Yeah this work was a failure, but not to mention that was one of my very first models which included sculpting and at that time my knowledge about marketing was very low. This model was my first try to climb over financial wall. I am kinda proud of it as it kinda turned good for a total newbie like me back then(Of course polygon count was insane and unneccessary.) But in short... I accept that this model or any other of my works are far from being sold, but at least they show difference between you and me. Your words are empty. I don't know you so for all I know you can be a simple guy who doesn't even know how to make a render in 3d max and just likes to drop other people videos of their first attempts and make fun of them so he could make himself look cool. As for me my works speak for me. Everyone begins from zero. No one is perfect. I learn the very same way like others. I make models and I make mistakes. I try to learn from my mistakes and avoid them in my future jobs. That is all. Yet I am still a begginer, but with a better skills now and all my works are nothing, but sketches. By the way please at least think twice before you write something. You have never worked with someone like me, because you have never even saw me in real life. To judge people through internet is not only stupid, but it is shows how amateur you are yourself. I never said this work or any of my works is a masterpiece and there will never be. I defended myself as critique was aimed at me, but not my model, nor the way I have modeled it.

I already took all the critique related to my model and answered to it.
How is this thread still going?
I already took all the critique related to my model and answered to it.
In your post you specifically stated that you were defending against criticism. I thought you just said you were leaving too
yes against critisism related to me. [editline]22nd January 2011[/editline]
How is this thread still going?
you're surprised by that? Looks impossible, but I found the system
Being the most qualified to comment on that statement of anyone on this forum, you're delusional. You would never be able to make 15,000 unique buildings which is what you're implying and even if you could, max wouldn't be able to handle it. Max has a hard time running with about 800,000-1,000,000+ polygons. Even with every workaround to that, and every little performance trick you can't avoid it. I don't think you truly have a grasp on what it takes to make a city that isn't just one building repeated a thousand times over.
In additional to what Ajacks just said, it depends on what you want to achieve. Do you want realism? or a complete city model. If you want realism, it is best to compile tons of detail onto a small scene, like 1-5 architectures. If you just want to create a complete city model, then it will depends on how much RAM you have. Also, you will have to use primitive on all objects. The hybrid of the two, like Ajacks suggested, is not feasible unless you have a $10,000+ machine
Polycount really isn't that much of a problem since you could instance the models and then load them only during rendering.
Polycount really isn't that much of a problem since you could instance the models and then load them only during rendering.
That would only apply for a tiled cityscape which doesn't sound like what he's going to do.
That would only apply for a tiled cityscape which doesn't sound like what he's going to do.
Shit I mean reference, not instance

Even so I don't plan to put entire city on 3d max (unless there will be a way). By the way fs I would decide to make every building same, I wouldn't create thread for this project. (Of course I am not saying that all 15.000 buildings will be different.) Secondly I am not gonna argue with you about deliusional or not. I have to do it first, even so for that reason I am using system of my kind which could help me makes this delusion into reality (And even with that this project is insane jigsaw.) As for my equipment I perfectly know that simple or even Alienware computer wouldn't be enough to render or even hold such huge mass. Even so I have equipment for it. Maya2008 I am going for real size city (virtually) but city buildings are simple and don't ask for insane detail. My goal is to make building look as good as possible with minimum polygons involved.
Alienware v:v:v
