Not only that, the attitude is terrible. [editline]22nd January 2011[/editline] From what I noticed in max, atleast in the old ones, haven't used 2010 or 2011, is that if you got tons of objects and if they total any amount of polies it can be slower than if you have one object with tons of polies.
Very true, for some reason it's much more taxing. I'm making due by constructing the city in wireframe, flipping to flat shaded when I need to see a detail, and then disabling all the view ports except perspective. Along with very low resolution textures.
Ajacks you failed at quoting
Ajacks you failed at quoting
Second time that's happened today >_<
Hmmmm.... Alienware.... hmmmm good choice? No! You need a work station with workstation GPU, like high end ATI Fire or NVidia Quadro.
3.000.000 polygon model like Optimus Prime didn't have problem on 3d max. Even so I don't plan to put entire city on 3d max (unless there will be a way). By the way fs I would decide to make every building same, I wouldn't create thread for this project. (Of course I am not saying that all 15.000 buildings will be different.) Secondly I am not gonna argue with you about deliusional or not. I have to do it first, even so for that reason I am using system of my kind which could help me makes this delusion into reality (And even with that this project is insane jigsaw.) As for my equipment I perfectly know that simple or even Alienware computer wouldn't be enough to render or even hold such huge mass. Even so I have equipment for it. Maya2008 I am going for real size city (virtually) but city buildings are simple and don't ask for insane detail. My goal is to make building look as good as possible with minimum polygons involved.
ahahahagfgsgf alienware
Hmmmm.... Alienware.... hmmmm good choice? No! You need a work station with workstation GPU, like high end ATI Fire or NVidia Quadro.
He doesn't really. Actually unless 3d is your fulltime job, I don't think you need a workstation gpu.
not even alienware!?
He doesn't really. Actually unless 3d is your fulltime job, I don't think you need a workstation gpu.
I mean to render 3,000,000 polygons that are not instances. Alienware PC's are insanely over priced too. I'd rather buy parts from Newegg and build me own, which I did, for half the price, if not less. I've been using this overclocked 4GHz Core2Quad, 8GB RAM, and QuadroFX 4600 GPU for 3 years now, and it still works like a champ. and I already got my money back by selling the work I've done on this machine.
Getting alienware is almost as retarded as getting a mac.
Getting alienware is almost as retarded as getting a mac.
One of my classes in high school was talking about how macs are awesome, then someone said alienware. I cried
Getting alienware is almost as retarded as getting a mac.
macs are excusable for propriety software or being for a family member who is not very good at computers. alienware isnt. /offtopic
I thought the transformers in the movies such as the detailed ones were rendered with computers close to super computer processing level, and scenes took hours at a time to render. [editline]23rd January 2011[/editline] but I know nothing about 3d to I'm probably mistaken.
They are all rendered on parallel clusters. A transformer movie on a single core processor will take more than a year just to render. Renderers like renderman also have a lot of GPU and CPU optimizations, unlike mental-ray or V-ray.

Yeah, my bad, just CPU for most renderers. I meant to say memory and CPU. Some are coming up with GPU support though, but still not significant to speed performance.
You could just use Procedural CityEngine instead of creating a whole city by scratch ? It would be useful as a base so then you can modify it as you want. edit: Some automatic generations imported to 3ds max : Max is saying that all this shit has 200.000 poly (there are more buildings that arent shown in the render). In-program (textured city) :

Also why did you bump this, it was dead for good.
Last post 1 day ago. It's recent. Also, yeah, but you can use this as base, or something like that. I'm not saying, get that program instead of creating your own city, it's just something that could help.
Thanks for suggestion. I just got some problems so I had to delay next piece. The photo looks super.
I would frankly like to follow the progress on this thing.
This is something that, if it were to warrant it's own thread, would have to be near completion before it was posted. My $0.02
But how could he attention whore if he waited until 2065 for him to finish all 100 thousand buildings?
But how could he attention whore if he waited until 2065 for him to finish all 100 thousand buildings?
Perhaps this is the point.
That's a nice bridge you got there.
That bridge is pretty awesome :buddy:
Maybe but it is way to common. Such type of the bridge you can see anywhere, so that means if I want to keep this up I have to redo the style and the very bridge which I almost finished to do.
Whoa almost a week passed and there's still nothing new
Do I owe you something? Unlike you I have work to do too and unlike you I am not stupid enough to whine every f^cking time I got hurt emotionaly. If you're not happy with the time every piece is coming or not happy with project or anything related to me, then just leave. Every sane person would have already left this thread and forgotten about it if he didn't like it. It just shows how childish you are.

He's pointing out that you aren't updating frequently at all. Which is kinda important to having your own thread. If he bothers you so much that you have to "censor" your speech, just add him to your ignore list. Jesus, you're shitting up your own thread.
