Uh, I click the album and it just shows me the picture zoomed in? [editline]4th September 2011[/editline] Nevermind it works now
Did I hear bump? Yur|ko - Maps of Space The album starts with a song that sets a great mood, calm and eerie ; I expect Roger Waters and David Gilmour to come in any second. And this, is really really awesome. In fact, it reminds me a bit of Echoes which happens to be my favourite song, so I can't really say anything that it is truly and completely great. The song sets a standard for the rest of the album, and I look forward to hear more of this kind of music from you! Only bad thing is length, I think it could've been dragged out for at least a couple more minutes. Hobo4President - I'll Walk Home Next stop, another calm and eering song. Thing that comes to mind is that the first and second song flows into eachother pretty well, it feels like a continuation and not like an abrupt change of song. Is this a happy coincidence or did you work it out, Schmoe222? The awesome feel from the first song doesn't continue on for too long though, and doesn't change that much which makes it pretty bland and boring after a while. Shame, lots of potential that's lost because of the length! Rotti - My thoughts on music So lets see what Rottis thoughts on music is. Oh nice, singing! And its good! It has a certain tonal quality that reminds me of Jason Mraz, a pretty talented singer himself so that's cool. I think its a bit empty with only the guitar, some other backing instrument on top of said guitar could be a nice addition, other than that its a really good song that is almost equal to "Maps Of Space". fpmankills - Sexy Hot And electronic music again. It's a bit bare I think, it sounds like background music to some sort of action scene, and not something that's supposed to stand alone like it does now (if that makes sense, I'm not sure it does!). Not bad by any means. TuLiq - Ordinary Some sort of jazzy thing that just sounds messy. There is a lot of things going on, and I'm not sure if I like it! The main melody with the drums, bass and keys sounds like a backing track for some soothing singing and I think it should've stayed that way. glohwormchen? - It's time! So let's see what it's time for. More keys, nice! I love piano, its an instrument that should be used more in music, especially rock music. It begins cool, but the addition of the darned drums just ruins it. I guess it was time for misusing the overused drum samples or something :v: Neon-Knight - Supernova Orchestral music? And it's not Schmoe222 yet? I don't care, we need more skilled people who can compose epic-sounding tracks and Neon-Knight does just that! I don't know whether its sounding medieval or sci-fi, but in either case it sounds big, strong and mighty. This is the soundtrack of an evil empire and it's just so damn good I can't stop thinking (or writing) about how good it is. So far, there are a couple of songs that I think are a must to listen to, and this is one of them. Excellent work Neon-Knight, you've done music worthy of a high-budget film. =) dezek - Miss you I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to find words to describe this track. It's not because it is bad, because it's a pretty decent track, it's just that it sounds so... bland. For a song that's called "Miss you", it sure doesn't sound emotional. I guess I'm at a fault here for expecting things before even listening. :v: thisispain - The Lab Made Atonal Drone Punk Oh this sounds like a lot of fun, a mix between crusty, raw rocknroll and progressive/psychadelic rock like the doors and other bands from the 60's/70's. This is the kind of music I want to make and well, what can I say? It's great and it actually reminds me a bit of Can with how it keeps on churning on. I think someone said that the albums just keeps getting better and I agree, they really do. So far this album has some really, really good songs! Even with a length of almost 8 minutes it feels short, and I think that speaks a lot for how good the song is. Natrox - Moonrider All I can think of is this track sounds like it should be in a SNES game (or NES), platformer ofcourse. You guys know about the old NES game "Silver Surfer"? It made me think of that game as soon as it kicked up the pace. I like it a lot, high-quality stuff as to be expected from Natrox. Vedicardi - From The Heart Oh man, more rocknroll? Nice! Is there a hint of Arctic Monkey here? The song is a lot of fun, a really good song and your voice fits the music really well. Raw, unpolished and with a big heart, this song could've been a pretty big hit in NYC in the seventies. Clungcancer - Go Home And Die I'm going to assume that Schmoe222 made a concious choice when he put the songs in such an order that it is acoustic/electronic/acoustic/electronic etc. The song is catchy and dark, a pretty odd mix but it works really well! Where's that sample from? I'd love to watch the whole 'scene' where Bush says that, and maybe even sample it myself. Cheesercrice - Glasses I dig it, that's all I'm going to say. Ok I'm kidding, it's really cool and I'd love to hear a longer version of this, that guitar is just so goddamn sexy! chaz13 - Chasm I don't like it at all, but it's well-made and I know a couple of people who'll enjoy this song. It's really well-made and reminds me of Prodigy. Hakita - Crematory There are certain things you come to expect of life. Taxes, sunshine after rain, and Hakita making long and great songs that are midi. And well, it holds true even on this album. I'd love to hear any of your tracks with 'real' instruments sometime, I bet you could get some of the artist here on facepunch to record the various instruments for you. =) Another great song on an album that so far is probably the best of all the albums. DudeGuyKT - Seventeen I'll begin by saying that I always expect a song that's named "Seventeen" to sound like Winger - Seventeen. Obviously, the song is far, far away from that (and is in fact another orchestral/electronic track, which is really great, we need more musicians who compose). This is the kind of track that you'd hear in scenes where someone is dying, the good guys are losing the battle or the ilk. I can't really say anything more, a really great track overall! Dick Tracy - A Tribute Oh man this is so damn great, I'd have sex in an instant with whoever made this song because it's just so damn great. Oh wait, that's me! Looks like I'll be getting some action tonight then :smug: So, this track was made after the last shuttle ride had been made by Nasa. The samples are taken from the last launch and personally I'm very proud of this song. I'd consider this song my best one and I hope that those of you who bother to listen this far on this album will enjoy it just as much as I did making it. =) rawDMG - Under The Influence A pretty catchy song, I can't think of a lot to say, a good song that doesn't have any flaws (or anything that propels it to greatness). HappyWombleM - Sponge A techno song after a techno song? Guess we're running out of acoustic music then huh :v: It doesn't do a lot for me, its a song that's enjoyable to listen to but it won't be something I'll remember for that long. StoolTable - Bowel Movements Oh man that distortion is fat, I like it! The singing, not so much. One thing that is lacking is power, it just doesn't cut it. The solo is pretty nice, I like it! Another sort of bland track, but don't feel disheartened ; I really like that you're trying and it is definietly a nice break to hear some more vocals again. Continue with it, you have good tonal quality, now you just need to work on the technique in your singing. =) Pepin - Mexico A short track from Pepin? What's going on? There's something about your songs that makes them all seem to just blend together. It's cool that you manage to make them all sound pretty alike, brings unity to it. Melody is cool and I dig the song, it's another good track to the greatest Collaborative as of yet. =) Lufttygger306 - Diesel Aw man is that a funky bass I'm hearing oh man you betcha and is that a funky guitar damnit this whole song is so damn funky! Fuck me this is great, this is a song I want to blast on full volume while making love! Only thing that's bad is that the guitar isn't jamming with the bass enough, and that it's only 02:38. Wake the Phantom - Terra I'll let one word sum it all up Meh raubana - Rebellion's Harmony Driving and catchy, I like it! It reminds me of certain aspects of the internet that could be considered illegal and the ways of creating serial keys that you can get without paying money. A good track, probably not something I'm going to put into my playlist, but a really enjoyable song nonetheless. =) Paragon - Still Alive And Dreaming More acoustic stuff, it reminds me of something but I just can't find what I'm thinking about. Not that it matters though, the vocals are ace, you have a really enjoyable voice. The lyrics are a bit cliché, sure, but it doesn't really matter, it's the excecution that matters and you get highest grade on that. Another song that is excellent and that feels shorter than it is, great job Paragon! TD4rK1 - The Endgame Theory I won't lie, I'm anxious to hear Schmoe222s song and the closer I get the more I want to just skip ahead to it. But that's lame, this is a review of the album and it wouldn't be a complete review if I just skipped to the end now would it? Anyway, this isn't about Schmoe222, this is about this song. So, it's not a coincidence that you're using drums that resemble the ones used for the terminator theme I assume? It sets the mood extremely well and I like the melodic metal a lot, another excellent song that I will add to my playlist and share with others. xiohexia - The Unnatural Sunrise I can't seem to find words to describe this song, it's good and I enjoy it and the melodies are good. Nothing more, nothing less. =) Schmoe222 - The Evolution of Life And I'm finally here, and it's good. Real good, it really sounds like an evolution. It starts simple, becomes more and more complex as it adapts itself, and just evolves. It maintains the same structure all along while changing itself, as pretty much all classical music does. I really like this song, it's too short though, I'd love to hear a much longer version of it with a couple of more changes. The album starts great, and ends great. The album as a whole I've thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album, it kicks off with probably one of the best songs I've heard on any of the albums (my tracks excluded ofcourse :smug: ) and stays strong until near the middle, but it picks up without losing a beat so it's not that much of a slump really. Some songs are a tad bland, but that doesn't mean they aren't well made. The craftmanship of all the songs are excellent and you can definietly tell that everyone involved did their best and I am honoured to have been part of yet another album from some of the finest musicians on the internet. Definietly the best one so far, I look forward to hearing the next album already and I know that I'm going to spread the word of this album to everyone I know (and some I don't know). Awesome work everyone, you've done a great job. =) I definietly heard bump.
This isn't going to turn out too well because the further and further I go the more and more critical I'm going to become. Maps of Space - Quite liking this, it has a nice feel, but I feel like it isn't going to go anywhere. Oh I'm quite wrong on this. Some tremolo picking to go with some nice melodic lead playing. A bit spotty at 2:35. The music feels like it is trying to get across something which is good. I would have better, doing it on the drum was a bit off. I'll Walk Home - There is a build up occurring, but like with these songs, the question is whether it'll be worth it. Standard pattern with building up some tension and then bringing the kick in. A decent bit predictable. Though I feel like I'd be more critical of this, it is doing enough to keep me interest, and the progression is pretty relaxing. Feel more like a backing for a lead vocal, it could really use a melody over it. Thinking about it now, at 5:15, I'm not really sure what this idea had to do with the last, seems like a different song. I honestly can't say I like it, but the song is good, it'd consider it an issue of taste. My Thoughts on Music - Feels a popular voice or a cover. A rushed lyric at 55. I really couldn't understand 90% of the lyrics, sounded like you had an accent. I can't understand accents. Sexy Hot - The start caught me guard. I really liked one of the notes you played because it was dissonant. I'm not liking the fade outs as they are making for bad transitions. You have good ideas, just connect them. At 1:42 it sounds like you're playing a Lady Gaga melody, or maybe it's the chord progression in that song. Darn, now that I think of it is in tons of songs, but you are using it well. Also, pulling the stops like you did sounded great, you're executing surprise very well. Terrible ending. Ordinary - Jazz? Is it jazz? Woah. A very active bass. Wait, is this fusion. Oh my. I'm loving this. I'm not sure if you're using samples for all the instruments or what, but even then you're using them well. you should have equaled out the two panned instruments at 1:45, made the one on the left get a lot louder towards the end. The ending was so-so, I think you could have done a bit more with it. It's Time! - Not really sure what I'm thinking yet. The snare sounds awful in junction with the other parts, I don't know why you'd choose that, or any of these drum parts. You can find better free samples. 1:38 is interesting. Supernova - Sounds like something I gave criticism on before, though it is still fading in. Sounds like a song out of Batman. Oh no, you put an electric guitar in there. You could use a lot more of a dynamic punch, the hits feel more like a poke. The music and composition seems good, but there are a lot of mixing and volume issues. It feels like you overcompressed this, I don't know why, but it seems like there should be so much more dynamics. My issue with this is limited dynamic range, it really hurt the song. The composition was quite good, but the issue is that is sounds very awkward when you don't have the dynamics this genre is known for. Miss You - A train? Not sure where this is going, so this could be interesting, provided it doesn't stay on the same idea the whole time. It is giving me a bit of vision. A homeless person is walking down the street and people are sneering and making remarks from around building corners. I wish there was more tension or maybe another motif, because the idea had gone on for too long. Train again. I guess I missed it. At least something a bit different is happening at the end, but you really have to try something different, this idea may have kept me entertained for the first half, but it did not the second half. The Lab Made Atonal Done Punk - This is already sounding interesting. Ouch, the crash has far too much in the highs, and the highs even carry over and sustain. Sounds like early Floyd and Doors in style perhaps, I don't know. Just please no more crashes. Feels like just a jam, in which case is pretty cool with the exception of that crash symbol. Icecream music at 2:25? Alright, I'm only listening in the right ear, and the crash isn't as bad now. The odd thing about the song is I'm not sure if the same thing is repeating or not, it could be, I don't know. I do think we need more organs. The bass is doing a few cool things, the crash cymbal on the other hand is not. It feels like something a band would play at the end of a song, except they forgot to stop playing. Interesting slow part. I feel like the guitar want to break into a solo, but maybe that's just me. I could fall asleep to the ending. Moonrider - This feels like Astronomy by Blue Oyster Cult, except it isn't. In the first verse you're missing your mids, there is a large frequency gap. The different instruments need more of a sonic footprint. More tension could be built up at 2:24. I see a lot of potential with your composition, and so far your sonic choice is holding you back. This sounds like it should be more intense. The ending made no sense. From The Heart - Sounds punk. I guess the beginning was to throw the listener off. Ok, at 1:13, what the hell are you doing. The recordings are clipping and sound awful, you should have cut them. The chorus is just is awful, uh, the verse and is good, and the chorus is just uh... How did that happen. I could care less about lyrics, but they seem a bit interesting. Really, you should have cut the chorus from being done like this. Go Home And Die - Is this really at -3db? I don't think so, seems for too loud. Maybe a lot of limiting? Nope, just checked, far about -3db, didn't follow the rules, which is why it seems so loud. The song sounds good, but not following the -3db rule is a dick move because it is going to make the previous and next song sound far inferior due to their softness. Ending wasn't very good. Glasses - This is interesting, not too sure what to think, mainly because I don't know what is going on. Some lady is singing through a reverb plugin and an interesting beat is with her. Chasm - This sounds pretty interesting. Are parts of this not in 4/4, or are you just being less predictable. There is a lot of mud somewhere in here, I think your bass and kick are conflicting. The loudness is quite impressive, it is very in your face, and the dynamic range is not limited enough to make it seem small. The music is quite interesting, though the ending just seemed like you got lazy. Crematory - Sounds like In the Flesh. Or maybe something else. Oh, going for something else. Why did it take me so long to realize this was midi music? I am predicting a release of this tension, or at least I'm hoping. Now I'm reminded of Time. I think I just have Pink Floyd on my mind. Interesting riff. Transitions are done quite well. Oh, I love the intro into the thrash section. This def sounds metal. I think the bend at 4:23 is a step to far. Using dissonance, something most facepunchers are afraid of. Good transition back into the initial riff at 5:35. I do feel like it is a bit much over the place, but the transitions don't feel forced. A faked ending, used to release a bunch of tension, making for an acceptable hanging ending. Seventeen - I think the strings take too much space too quickly. You just introduced the piano, and then you push it out of the way. Good use at 1:40. I like 1:50. I feel like you're fall short of your potential here. The tension being built up at 3:00 is doing good, and it's going to be released soon. It better be. Oh, it went back into that idea, that makes sense. Seems a bit loud though. The ideas are interesting in how they are playing into each other, though on some level I'm not if it works all that great, especially in how you released all that tension you built up. I'd have to listen to the song again, but I'll say it was good, no doubt it took a lot of skill to compose. The lack of an ending though it a bit... A Tribute - Short song. Helicopter. I've heard this before. This riff, with some vocal clip. From where though. Wouldn't this be a remix? I'm confused. Under the Influence - Not really sure what this is. Seems interesting enough, though it's just arpeggios over a chord so nothing special. The rhythm at 1:49 is used in some pop song by Katy Perry I think. Could be wrong. Sponge - This seems to move like a caterpillar, so I guess the question is whether or not it'll become a butterfly or not. I can't decide if the bass is taking up too much, so I guess I can't say it isn't. The song kind of feels sad, yet a bit dull because it's to base a whole song around that idea. I could see it working well for bridge in another song. Bowel Movements - The bass and the guitar are conflicting. The vocals don't sound natural, you should have mixed them in. At 1:39 you're starting to sound like Coldplay. The lead playing is very sloppy and the tone seems quite off. I don't find the lyrics at all enjoyable. Mexico - No comment Diesel - Wow, we got a lot of acoustic tracks on here. This feels pretty cool. It reminds me of about four different songs. Mixing could be a bit better, but that's alright. 1:14 doesn't make much sense, kind of lost your movement. The dissonance at 1:49 doesn't make any sense either. The fading and structure is not making any sense at all. Guessing this was made from samples. Terra - Ouch, the high hat is hurting my hear a bit. I knew the bass line before it began, a bit to predicable. This seems like a common electronic progression that everyone uses, but it sounds pretty much the same in every use and is far too predictable. I wish the drums were accenting something. The 2:20 pause was pulled off well. I see you like transitioning with at 3:00 loud sound. Building up some tension, and we go back in. It would have been better to change it up, go to something else, really do something the listener isn't going to expect. I guess 5:00 doesn't sound all that bad, it's just the predictability that gets me. Rebellions Harmony - You better be harmonizing in this. The song intro is carrying on a bit long. The :55 idea idea and further have become cliches. I like how you go to an organ, that is unexpected, and I love organs. Some interesting stuff on in 1:40, that part adds a lot. The middle part was cool. Not sure where 2:30 fits in, but ok. It's kind of like having people meet you at the cemetery to tell them you came out of the closet. You should have found a way to end it better. Still Alive and Dreaming - The guitar feels very brittle. There is an electric that is providing more warmth. Things seem off time, did you use a metronome. I am also lacking a direction as to what is going on. Your voice is nice, but I think you may be using a bit too much reverb, could just be my taste. You should have sat your acoustic guitar bad further in the mix to allow the vocal to take the front. You really should have added a bass. There is nothing pushing the song along, you should have cut it shorter and made it connect better, or you could have kept it the same length, and added elements to make it interesting, but it really starts getting dull at 5:41 because nothing has really changed. I would have also done a better job recording the guitar, getting some low mids. The Endgame Theory - This is starting off interesting. You should give the guitars more space as they matter more, and it would also make 1:15 sound better. 1:25 didn't make much sense as it came out of no where. Wait, the NWO would do that wouldn't they? Symbolic. I like the guitar part at 2:10, and so on, where you're running into issues is when bringing back the pads/strings/voices/whatever. The guitar playing seems really up to par. Same goes to the recording. The Unnatural Sunrise - Seems interesting. Keeping me listening. Playing on dissonance. It really needs to do something though, because it can't stay like this. Like at 2:06 it is still progressing, but it makes the tension previous pointless. It's kind of dragging along. Feel like I'm listening to a second intro. I don't feel like I went anywhere, and it's 4:40. There are some interesting ideas, but you can just assume interesting ideas make a song, some interesting ideas may just be good for an intro, some may just be good for something else, a lot of these ideas I'd describe as passing ideas, you don't repeat them and you just use them to get to a new part. The Evolution of Life - I can lions running, and other stuff. The title does a lot to create some imagery. Actually, this could go with a lot of things, like with scientists taking evolution into their own hands. Darn you, I'm interpreting the song. It's quite good, and it stirs up imagery. Can't really say anything bad about it. Unlike one of the previous orchestral songs, you make good use of dynamics, and the ending makes sense.
From The Heart - Sounds punk. I guess the beginning was to throw the listener off. Ok, at 1:13, what the hell are you doing.
Clungcancer - Go Home And Die I'm going to assume that Schmoe222 made a concious choice when he put the songs in such an order that it is acoustic/electronic/acoustic/electronic etc. The song is catchy and dark, a pretty odd mix but it works really well!
Crematory - Sounds like In the Flesh. Or maybe something else. Oh, going for something else. Why did it take me so long to realize this was midi music? Maps of Space is a brilliant way to open this album.
A Tribute - Short song. Helicopter. I've heard this before. This riff, with some vocal clip. From where though. Wouldn't this be a remix? I'm confused.
No helicopter in the song, that's the sound of STS-135s two solid rocket boosters as it shoots up into the sky. =) The riff is an original riff, the bassist-friend of mine took some inspiration from the song "Dawn Patrol" by Megadeth though. Not sure if it counts as a remix with the vocal samples, I did post it in the collab thread before and there weren't any complaints then.
17. Dick Tracy - A Tribute To me it sounds quite retro, like something from the mtv era. I do like it.
Could you explain a bit more in detail what you mean with the mtv era? Glad you enjoyed the track! =)
like 80s metal lol
lol
Supernova - Sounds like something I gave criticism on before, though it is still fading in. Sounds like a song out of Batman. Oh no, you put an electric guitar in there. The composition was quite good, but the issue is that is sounds very awkward when you don't have the dynamics this genre is known for.
Batman, huh? Hmm. As I said before, I was actually going for Vangelis. Oh well, that kinda sucks. I always try to distance myself from Hans Zimmer. There are a number of reasons for the limited dynamics. Mostly because the rules said it had to be -3db. So I compressed it and set it to -3db. It's just the rules, didn't want to overstep my boundaries and produce a piece that people have to keep turning up-and-down to be comfortable listening to. I actually spent most of the time writing the piece working on volume automation and note velocities, took me freaking ages to get the dynamics right, the project file is is totally full of massive dynamics but at the end of the day, at the lowest volume setting where it wasn't clipping, the quiet was too quiet to be heard properly. So I had to compress it somewhat, but I guess I went rather OTT. Sorry about that. :/ Also, loud percussive hits? As if. In a real orchestra, you'd never hear a hit as loud a most "film scores" give you without 10 or more percussion sections. I'd rather my pieces were realistic than have ridiculous bangs that drown out the whole orchestra. I know most people think it sounds "cool" but I just think it sounds stupid. But thanks for taking the time to criticize, gives me something to work on for future pieces, if I do any more for FP. I'll work on using compression more tastefully. Cheers. Also thanks @ everybody who gave my piece nice comments, you're all winners.

Hakita, why are you such a great composer? Fucking love Crematory.
How did I miss 3+4? Oh, well I was away when 4 was released, but still. How the hell did I miss 3? Oh well, downloading now. Love this stuff.
Hakita, why are you such a great composer? Fucking love Crematory.
I sold my soul to Santana.
It seems like I forgot to write this here, but ok
... I'll contribute $1 for each and every (unique*) review on the album to unicef, starting with this album. So far there have been three reviews, I'll check back in two weeks to see how many reviews have been made and then I'll donate. *As in, its only one review per forum user, and there obviously has to be at least some effort put into it and not just "I like this and don't like this oh nice album will read again a++"

I sold my soul to Santana.
What happens if I sell my soul to Mr. Gilmour?
What happens if I sell my soul to Mr. Gilmour?
You will get a nice singing voice but you will look like a bear when you're old.
You will get a nice singing voice but you will look like a bear when you're old.
I consider this a win/win situation. Who wouldn't want to be a talented vocalist bear? that also plays guitars wawwwyeah
I consider this a win/win situation. Who wouldn't want to be a talented vocalist bear? that also plays guitars wawwwyeah
Well, yeah. Expect you're like 80 and a bear, so you'll have as much luck with women as you are having right now.
Well, yeah. Expect you're like 80 and a bear, so you'll have as much luck with women as you are having right now.
I love your Jethro Tull image in your avatar.
I love your Jethro Tull image in your avatar.
Well thank you.
Well, yeah. Expect you're like 80 and a bear, so you'll have as much luck with women as you are having right now.
Bitch I have all the ladies. i'm a bear fuck you bro
Bitch I have all the ladies. i'm a bear fuck you bro
Oh yeah and also, if you sell your soul to Gilmour, you'll have to spend most of your life in a band with a singer that looks like an easter island head and is the biggest prick (in the wall).
Holy shit I love these FP collab albums, a few songs from each album are in my fabled "good fucking music" playlist trust me it is hard to get in that playlist
Oh yeah and also, if you sell your soul to Gilmour, you'll have to spend most of your life in a band with a singer that looks like an easter island head and is the biggest prick (in the wall).
WELL AT LEAST I CAN SING
Holy shit I love these FP collab albums, a few songs from each album are in my fabled "good fucking music" playlist trust me it is hard to get in that playlist
Who got in to that super fucking amazing prestigious playlist?
Thanks for the criticism. That was actually the second song I've ever made, and when I go back and listen to it I can see what you mean. Good lesson for later stuff.
Well thank you.
I love me some Aqualung heh.

Think of the starving children of the world! I obviously overestimated the amount of people who would contribute a review, so I will amp it up. For every review, I will pay $5 to Unicef. $5 and all you have to do is to take some time off your day to listen through and say a little somethign about every song (and trust me, the songs are most excellent so it isn't a chore but something you'll enjoy!) on this album. $5 for your review (obviously some effort has to be put into it, but as mentioned it isn't a chore, it is an enjoyable experience), the funds will go to Unicef and help save someone. =)
