What about EyeHateGod's "Dopesick"? It has feedback in it whenever a guitar stops playing.
That's what I'm saying. If feedback/fuzz = noise, then all Doom/Sludge Metal bands are noise musicians.
That's what I'm saying. If feedback/fuzz = noise, then all Doom/Sludge Metal bands are noise musicians.
They are. But the genre of music isn't "noise". Not all the time anyway.
A cover of one of my favourite songs. SHIT GETS DRONED-UP YO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8csTDlUqjYA

Well they did collaborate with Merzbow
I recommend Sleep Research Facility and Svarte Greiner for some Dark Ambient noise. Good for relaxing and doing general creative stuff.
I find noise music interesting, but painful to listen to. I don't really understand the appeal to it. It's quite terrifying.
A noise music thread without Merzbow? :(
i just had a listen at this Merzbow guy and it's more like "sound art" to me if it wasn't for those scary pictures i doubt you'd have anything associated with it. i can imagine something like this being used with a scary video though, but the sound itself would have no meaning for most people i think unless you've heard shit like this before somewhere like in a movie or a game so yeah, it's all about associating the "sound art" or "music" (if you want to call it that) to thoughts such as scary thoughts, happy thoughts and so on
LISTEN TO THE BEAUUUUTlFUL MUUUUSIIIIC
That was actually quite nice. It had a cool beat going on in the background, but the problem I have with all noise music is the volume, it's unbearable to my ears.
Noise isn't music. So your point is invalid :smug:
The OP disagrees with you
I never really considered DFA 1979 to be a noise band, but I guess they do have similar characteristics. Also where is the Melt Banana.
oh my god how did i forget about these guys holy shit my mind is blown by these guys all over again
Also if we're talking math rock we should probably mention Don Caballero, and by extension Battles.
I'm pretty sure I actually love you holy shit
I love dfa1979.
Not quite sure if Breakcore fits in this genre. Anyway, heres my favorite song. (picks up at 00:20.)
lol breakcore no it does not, not at all. That song is almost cool but it's following the general trend of taking a beat and fucking around with it and removing most melody and making it sound shit.
I don't particularly enjoy this genre but you seem to have a good time listening to it and I respect that.
I mostly dislike Noise music, as it's often got a really silly "art" vibe to it. Merzbow being a good case in point. I would like Merzbow as a live performance, and I liked watching a friend's Merzbox, but it really isn't listenable as music to me. However, early HEALTH (they suffer a bit from a silly name and having become shit now) and Fuck Buttons are really good. I mean, Battles don't have nearly any noise in their songs, they are quite minimalistic actually, and it makes it seem far more interesting and fascinating in my ears. Noise comes across as a sort of stripe rather than a pattern to me, and if I want to listen to something quite intense I would never pick noise. I'd probably pick some Clicks n Cuts glitch or Don Cab-like complex rock. So yeah, Fuck Buttons and Deerhoof and stuff are okay in my books. They also seem to avoid the "tough n ruff" bullshit other bands go for. Fuck Buttons happen to have a shit name too, what's up with that..
Yeah there is a pretty big difference between noise bands like Merzbow, and noise rock like Lightning Bolt, and Melt Banana. I wouldn't even consider Don Cab, Battles, or Deerhoof to be noise rock. They are closer to math rock to me. That being said I don't really like pigeonholing bands into certain categories or genres. If it sounds good it sounds good. End of story.
As people have said. Merzbow is in his crazy own world. He has taken noise to another level. [editline]7th November 2010[/editline] :derp:
