It's only racist/bigoted if you take it seriously. Tracy Morgan's jokes were in poor taste, but part of the life of a comedian is crossing boundaries that other people are too afraid to cross. If you tell a joke based on a stereotype, it's okay as long as you and the party you're joking about both realize that stereotypes aren't real. So what if you're making jokes about black people being lazy? Black people should know that work ethic does not depend on ethnicity, and so should you. I think it's only when absolutely everyone can laugh at the ridiculousness of stereotypes that we truly overcome bigotry.

And as family, they should be treated with the same care and respect that we give any other family member. That means legal protection against discrimination and hatred. We've already come a long way in that area, and don't ask don't tell is no longer in effect which is a huge step towards total equality for gays. If you ask me, civil unions should be the next step. It's the racists and bigots that should be locked away, and not the gays who just want to live and let live. What you're talking about is a step backwards.
