A racist joke is racist and offensive regardless or whether or not you're called out for it.
People who hold the belief that being offensive is okay because "everybody is offended by something lol!" are social pariahs, and it shows.
but everyone is offended by something
and I don't see the legions of comedians that makes offensive jokes or the legions of young adults who use "fag" frivolously being shunned from society, do you?
and I think the discussion is moreso "are you a racist if you make a racist joke", and there isn't a way to quantify someone's inner beliefs by a discourse of amusement like that so

It's only racist/bigoted if you take it seriously. Tracy Morgan's jokes were in poor taste, but part of the life of a comedian is crossing boundaries that other people are too afraid to cross. If you tell a joke based on a stereotype, it's okay as long as you and the party you're joking about both realize that stereotypes aren't real. So what if you're making jokes about black people being lazy? Black people should know that work ethic does not depend on ethnicity, and so should you. I think it's only when absolutely everyone can laugh at the ridiculousness of stereotypes that we truly overcome bigotry.
What you guys fail to realize about people who say things about gay people, is that they simply don't give a fuck and will stick to their beliefs. Everyone else is moving ahead in their lives and laughing at you cause you actually worry about things they never think about. I know all of you search for answers but I like to examine the source of the problem. As for my findings there is honestly nothing you can do to influence someone of that nature. Maybe create a safe haven for the victims and accommodate their needs is the best thing available. It worked for black people, and I advise you guys to push the same for gay people.

No that is not what i'm saying. Black people tend to stick to their own kind and the smarter ones get ostracized as being "white". Talking properly with no ebonics, wearing normal clothes, and possibly choosing a white woman as a partner. So black people started creating leagues, tv stations (BET), and other organizations (largely african american churches) for themselves. So therefore an entire culture spawned for themselves. Tracey Morgan is an example of someone who has emerged from the black society. What he preaches is homophobia, humiliation, and other derogatory statements against people of other races. The reason he says these things is because that is what black people find funny and that's who his largest audience is. I know why young black males resent their fathers and take out their anger on the world by coming together with people in the same situation creating a "gang". There is an entire mentality that no one here seems to realize and will never take the time to. So what my point is, that we should look at a history of people and apply some of it to the lgbt people of America.
The thing to do is to make people aware that gays are just people like you and me, members of the human family. And as family, they should be treated with the same care and respect that we give any other family member. That means legal protection against discrimination and hatred. We've already come a long way in that area, and don't ask don't tell is no longer in effect which is a huge step towards total equality for gays. If you ask me, civil unions should be the next step. It's the racists and bigots that should be locked away, and not the gays who just want to live and let live. What you're talking about is a step backwards.

Thats stereotyping done right, it's satirical and I found it hilarious.
If you're a white man telling jokes about blacks and asians to your white friends, there's nothing wrong with it
If you're a black man telling jokes about blacks to other people they'll be sure you're not taking it serious and you're just having fun
Now if you're a white man who comes up to a black guy only to tell him a race joke then yes, they'll think you're racist.
So straight whites and self-deprecating bisexuals? Thanks for the clarification.
So let's pretend I said "Sanius is a faggot". I have no idea whether you're gay or not, or even if you're a man at all. I don't care either. Because if I was calling you a faggot, none of that would matter: you'd be a faggot because you're acting like one. What is a faggot exactly? The definition changes all the time to suit the convenience of the user, much like "fuck". That's just the modern usage now and you're going to have to deal with it. Think of it as a counter-cultural move against this wave of "political correctness".
Honestly though, people getting butthurt over words is getting old. If someone is actually doing something wrong, then please share. But if some guy made a black/white/whatever joke with his friends, I don't give a fuck, and chances are neither should you.
I wish people would understand the meaning of racism... Something is only racist when you're discriminating someone to THEIR FACE using race as "fuel", not when you're telling a dumb joke.
Shit, it's probably racist that I said that!!

If you're sick of people getting "butthurt", then quit using the word/statement that's offending them. It's not like if you're going to miss using the word "nigger" or "faggot", considering that you claim that they're meaningless and unimportant.
If you do manage to accidentally offend someone, then say that you had no intention of offending them at all and don't use the offensive word/statement again. Don't tell them "deal with it ur just butthurt, fuck political correctness".

The fact of the matter is, is that pretty much everything in the history of ever has or will indeed offend someone. It's not to say that you should go out of your way to offend somebody, but if they find a little humor between you and your friends offensive it's best to point them in the opposite direction so they can walk straight the fuck away.
If you want to read about a society where everything is offensive has been abolished, I'd tell you to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

and when you don't count only racism and factor in every time someone says homosexuality is a defect or thinks that a woman who isn't perfect looking is inferior to everyone else you end up painting a picture of one of the most annoyingly bigoted large forums on the internet
I directly blame TH89's lack of modship for this
come back we need you green again
racist jokes don't necessarily make you racist, but they do make you an asshole

Frylock: Hide? From what?
Bart Oates: Just play it off as a joke.
Carl: Uh, you know, black people been running around here.

I (and many others I'm sure) completely disagree with the notion that something has to be said to a person of said race to be "racist."
Case in point: I'm in the car with a friend of mine who says completely nonchalantly "Is that a nigger?" when we pass a black guy walking out of his house. I knew my friend had some negative prejudices but, honestly? I'd sure as hell call that "racism" even though it wasn't said to the guy's face.
Definition of RACISM
1
: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2
: racial prejudice or discrimination
I agree, there will always be something that will offend someone. However, I don't think offensive statements shouldn't be banned, but you shouldn't complain when someone retaliates harshly to you for making offensive insults. It's mostly a social thing, if you are insensitive and if you aren't nice to a person, don't expect that person to happily throw daisies at you.
The only thing I hate is when 2 people of the same race insult each other using a racist remark and laugh, but god forbid we do it.
Hard for me to explain, but it's a "laugh with me" or a "laugh at me" situation. Since two people of the same race find it more comfortable to joke about themselves. A time when there are different races? Depends. Most of the time, both won't offended when they both poke fun at themselves. However, when the different race only pokes fun at the other race, most of the time, the other race would feel uncomfortable.

"I can say the n-word because this famous white guy said it's ok guys!"
You may actually be surprised to learn that not everyone thinks that calling people faggots and telling misogynist jokes is okay. The fact that they're more socially acceptable right now should tell you something about the status of gay and women's rights in this country, don't just blithely use it as an excuse to call people niggers. Come on dude.
If observing stereotypes makes me racist, then I am a flaming racist. This all sounds like a big semantics battle where people try to associate 'bad words' with understandable behavior. I have a friend who I had way back in elementary school. He's black, his father was arrested for stealing a television in a red pickup truck, he was stabbed to death in Seattle (this isn't meant to be funny by the way, he had a harsh upbringing). He has become affiliated with 'gangs' in Seattle and was caught with a firearm by local police. He at one point had taken his mother's car out for a drive before he even had any sort of Driver's License. He's been in all sorts of trouble.
The stereotype is that it's typical nigger behavior, and yes, I'm using the word 'nigger' to associate with the trashy gang African Americans who are generally a plague on society. This is not something that is a direct effect of being black. It's merely a product of upbringing, influence, and social roles. It can't be denied that this type of behavior is commonly associated with African Americans, but the qualm doesn't rest with the race itself, rather the stereotype that undoubtedly occurs.
If by hating the stereotype, and observing it being commonly associated with one or more races in turn makes me racist, then I am a racist, and am not ashamed of the title. African Americans are perfectly functional members of society with no reason to believe they cannot be upstanding citizens just like anyone of any other race. The real qualm is with niggers, the 'gangster' culture trash who speak fractured English and think committing crimes is 'cool'.
I don't use the term 'nigger' in public or in normal conversation obviously, rather I only use it when the meaning I associate with the term is understood, but just as I said, I find the word properly associated with the stereotype and not the race itself.
No, this is racist as fuck dude. The word you are using has attached to it a history of oppression, slavery, and murder and lynching associated with it. It is a word that means "you are less than human because you are black." What you are saying here is "don't worry black people, I won't be racist to you, as long as you behave how I want you to!" No. That's not how not being racist works. If you wanted to be not racist you could call them dicks or assholes or whatever, it's not like the English language has a shortage of non-racial insults for people you don't like.
Secondly everyone I have ever known who makes this argument has pretty shitty standards for "not a nigger" to the point where all a black person has to do to be called a nigger and dehumanized by said person is:
-Be poor
-Wear a baseball hat
-Have an accent
-Use slang
-Be not liked by you
So when I see people say that I know, if they saw one of a bunch of black people I know who are totally smart, funny, thoughtful dudes who nonetheless dress street and use the n-word, exactly what you'd be calling them in your head. Ultimately you're just espousing another form of "I hate niggers, there are some good ones though." Yes, that is racist as hell. Stop trying to rationalize it so that it becomes okay.
By the way, the reason you're an "upstanding citizen" is because you were born that way. If you were born black and in the hood you would be one of the "niggers" you hate. Judging by your crappy reasoning abilities you'd probably be in jail by now. So maybe spend less time judging people and more time learning, yeah?

My brain is "what" though, when it's no one jumps a shit when a black person use the n-word. It's got all of the negative associations that you said, shouldn't it be a word that absolutely no one should use, then?
Or, rather, when a kid from another culture tries to emulate black culture by referring to each other endearingly as "nigga". It's certainly not racist then.

For the same reason no one gives a shit when jewish people tell jew jokes, or when you call your friend a shithead, it's really really obvious they don't mean it. Because of context.
Now, there's controversy within the black community over whether using it is a good thing or not, but frankly, as the people who are directly affected by it, it's their business.
