Huh, me racist? I'm not racist, because racism is a crime, and crime is for black people. To be honest, have no problem with racist humour because it's all in good spirit. Hell, somebody makes a white joke and I laugh my ass off. Racism as an offence is just low and shitty.

Really, it's always quite easy to read the intent behind a joke; to tell if it is hate-motivated, or based on prejudice, or meant simply as light-hearted humour. Now that Tracy Morgan example, that's not exactly difficult to figure out.

it's a term of endearment among blacks. underprivileged puerto ricans feel that they can relate so it's okay for them to use it as well. it's really only when the privileged like white suburban kids use it that it becomes a problem I really don't see how that's hard to understand

Technically racism is fake, as trying to degrade someone for having darker/lighter skin pigmantation isn't based on race. Every human is related, no one is more ape or chimpanzee than anyone else, but I guess you have to have a word for it anyhow. Who cares if guys want to suck dicks or girls that want to lick pussy, hell I want to try sucking a dick,but no one in my town is gay or bi, they would most likely kill anyone that is, that's what you get for living in a meth infested, drunk redneck clusterfuck town. So far I haven't seen anything even remotely racist in this thread... and you guys aren't even really talking about racism anyway. None of your examples include people thinking less of another person because of their genetics/skin color, but because of the culture they came from, class they exist in, or just some set of people that are grouped because of some overarching stereotype. Example: I'm not going to hire this black person because he is poor, speaks some slang, and he even has a crazy African name. None of this racist... at all, because none of it has anything to do with actually being inferior because of the blackness (or not-whiteness) of his skin. Any of those traits could be put onto a white person and the same conclusion would be made.

Except the conclusion is not as strongly made, and the white person can shed those factors, whereas the black person will continue to be defined in relation to his blackness. If he is successful, or intelligent, or funny, it is seen as in spite of his blackness. I think the use of 'nigger' by whites can be legitimate, but not in our society, and certainly not with the connotations it has attached to it. People fail to understand that an african american saying 'nigger' isn't generally the same as a white person saying the same thing. Not too many people use racist terms to denigrate themselves, but to reclaim the word. One of my best mates is a Muslim from Pakistan. I call him Chocolate Bear. People need to lighten up. There's racist jokes, then there's actual fucking disgusting racism. No need for it. Joking with someone about their appearance is a-okay in my opinion. I'm a fat fuck, I don't take offence when people make fat jokes, because most of the time they're actually funny.
