would I have to specify anything specific like measurements to them or could I just be like 'yo this feels bad'
I'd like to change the action on my acoustic but I've genuinely strung it so poorly that I think the strings are going to be impossible to get back on properly also I don't know how to change the action :v: I want to lower it because the strings are so fucking far from the fretboard that barre chords are painful to do in comparison to my strat which is 500 times more comfortable
Depends on the bridge type, TOMs are easy as shit to change action on. EDIT: Just noticed acoustic. I wouldn't know anything about that.
would I have to specify anything specific like measurements to them or could I just be like 'yo this feels bad'
no just say you want it lower
The bass shop near me will do all that for free.
My explorer is perfectly intonated all over the fretboard now, it took some nut filing and major adjustments to get it there but it was worth it. My ibanez will need a new nut before I will get that thing perfect. It isn't a job you want to do without knowing how to but there are tons of videos explaining the process on youtube.
any guitar shop will adjust it for like $5 lol
My local guitar shop is ripping off people by charging for string changes. It's $10 to have them change strings and I kind of think it's so people will learn to do it themselves. I sure as hell brought my first acoustic guitar in there to have them restring it.

I am drunk so I hope I typed that correctly.

You need anything on your guitar adjusted they'll charge 10-25 bucks for it depending on how much you want done on it. It was fucking stupid. I didn't make any kind of intonation changes or neck changes to my bass for a long time because I didn't wanna pay for shit like that but didn't know how.
well, tbh, I wouldn't mind paying 10 bucks to get my neck adjusted. But intonation and string changes? no way, all you need is a screwdriver and a two minute search on google.

I think the local guitar shop here charges €30 or something for a full intonation, more expensive on a FR Thomann is making them go out of business so I guess that's why
It took me like 20 minutes to intonate and that's my first time after owning a guitar for 3 days. 30 euros is a bit much.
I think the local guitar shop here charges €30 or something for a full intonation, more expensive on a FR Thomann is making them go out of business so I guess that's why
Thing is if these small thick as fuck music shops advertised free string change / quick lesson I can guarantee it would bring them more revenue. Offering free advice even if its wrong to people not in the know works for a business. (well until they find out lol) Ohh these guys taught me how to change my strings and set my guitars intonation they will probably know what new amp would suite me. I'd better go down and have a chat. It annoys me when I see them go out of business but they are making foolish short term decisions like trying to anal rape someone over a 10 minutes change of guitar strings. Shop literally 5 minutes from my house went out of business due to similar decisions had a recording studio and everything.
So I have been breaking my high E and D string on my explorer lately so I might have stolen a little trick from someone. Ever since I started top wrapping those strings I have yet to break one. A lot of people believe the lower string tension helps but I think it also has to do with the fact that it takes the strain off the ball end (which is where mine were breaking) and putting more the that tension on the sharp bend.
Doesn't ol' Phil do that with the exact same strings?
Doesn't ol' Phil do that with the exact same strings?
Bingo.
Bingo.
Some people do that with all the strings. I'm pretty sure some gibsons come stock that way.
Some people do that with all the strings. I'm pretty sure some gibsons come stock that way.
I am not a big fan of having all of the strings strung over, I did it once and the low tension combined with the already low tension of the shorter scale just didn't feel good to me. I like to have the tailpiece to the deck to give the most tension I can.
seems like they are more likely to fall out of the bridge doing that. Might give it a shot anyway, though. my strings like to break.
seems like they are more likely to fall out of the bridge doing that. I pick pretty hard sometimes and even with barely any break angle my strings stayed in.

Running the strings out and around, that is. [editline]19th March 2013[/editline] That simulated pup is boss.
It think the point of that is to put the tailpiece down to the body. Running the strings out and around, that is.
Yeah it is, if you raised the tailpiece chances are the strings will start jumping off the saddles.

I always string up like this, all the strings. bends like noodles and it makes a "bridge" so you can rest your hand on while palm muting
That simulated pup is boss.
by boss do you mean shit
by boss do you mean shit
Well, opinions here. I definitely can use that sound it makes and do so ever want to. I'd use it in conjunction with the middle pup only, because of that cool effect it has.
Man I was up till the early hours of the morning this morning doing some major surgery on my ibanez's bridge pickup, I was sitting here playing it and the bridge pickup cut off all of a sudden. So I opened up the control cavity and started wiggling wires to no avail. So I start heating up the soldering iron and I resolder the bridge pickup wires... Nothing. I don't have a mutlimeter so I just hooked the pickup directly to the output jack to make sure it isn't the pickup switch. It wasn't, so I pulled the pickup out and on the surface everything looked fine. So I made the decision to take it completely apart and resolder a new length of 4 conductor wire from the bobbins. So I do and wouldn't you know it... Still doesn't fucking work. So I figure I have to go deeper and I wire new wires to the actual magnet wire inside the bobbin and then to the 4 conductor wire. Finally after 4 hours of being pissed off I got it working. I am guessing it was one of the wires going to the magnet wire. Might have taken me about 1 hour if I had a mutlimeter. Also tip of the day, if you don't have four conductor wire usb cable works a treat.
that reminds me the tone pot on my rg cuts off almost completely when I turn it all the way down should I replace it or can I just repair it [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] holy shit the vo in this ad
that reminds me the tone pot on my rg cuts off almost completely when I turn it all the way down should I replace it or can I just repair it
Take it apart and brush the contacts with some 90% (or more) alcohol on a piece of a cotton shirt or something like that. If that doesn't work then chances are the contacts are worn out and then you should replace it. I still have the original tone pot in my Ibanez and some how it still works. Whenever it gets scratchy I just clean it out with some alcohol and it works just fine.
cool thanks I'll try that whenever I feel like pulling it open
