guitars should be heavy, denser, ect. Gibson's weight relief stuff apparently kills sustain.
I really don't think the chapman guitars could be any more generic if they tried
It's what people wanted. Well, that's the premise, anyway.
I've worked on a chapman ml-1 and I don't remember it being that heavy, my Ibanez weighs more.
It's what people wanted. Well, that's the premise, anyway.
yet another example of why communism never works
I don't believe in people. I do believe in well made guitars, and that's what they seem to be. [editline]13th January 2014[/editline] Why I'm never gonna have a girlfriend or much of a life. I like guitars more than people even though I'm not very good at either.
let's be honest that's not why you're not gonna have a girlfriend
guitars should be heavy, denser, ect. Gibson's weight relief stuff apparently kills sustain.
I heard the opposite :(
A guy who went to college with me but did the course below mine had an ML-1 and it was ridiculously heavy. I mean, one of my band's guitarists has an old Tokai Explorer that weighs a million tons and is made of a mahogany body and neck with a rosewood board, some replacement hardware and tuners, and SD Blackouts. The stock ML-1 weighed more, and I have no idea how anyone could play that for a set.
When I played in parade band in high school I would have to carry a marching snare during parades for up to three hours. Its easier than you think. Also after the first like hour you stop noticing the instrument is still on you, but the pains sort of still there, its just less noticeable. I doubt there are guitars that are that heavy.
I bet Brian May's guitar is really heavy after all it's not small and it was made from some table right? [editline]13th January 2014[/editline] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Special Actually not that heavy, just 3.6 kg.

Coated acoustic strings are probably the greatest thing under the sun
Coated acoustic strings are probably the greatest thing under the sun
Aside from female breasts and V8 Hemis, yes. Though, a good, solid spruce top comes very, very close to the level of awesomeness of coated acoustic strings.
Was bored so looked up ugly guitars on google. Here are some of my findings.
I heard the opposite :(
I wouldn't know until I try it. I'll test a LP Traditional and a LP standard next time I go to a guitar store.
I decided to learn Sweet Child 'O Mine because my friend wants us to play at his Aunt's 50th birthday and I only know pop punk songs. It's a lot of fun.
Are 10 - 56 gauge strings too heavy for D standard?
cramping my hand up like crazy though.
Are 10 - 56 gauge strings too heavy for D standard?
No. What scale length is your guitar? Doug Aldrich uses 11s on his Les Pauls for D-standard.
Are 10 - 56 gauge strings too heavy for D standard?
Thicker strings are easier to play lower tunings in. I've tried tuning to drop B with 8-38 strings, needless to say you'd have to touch the strings very lightly to get the note you intended. [editline]14th January 2014[/editline] Has anyone played with a gibson dirty fingers pickup? I wanted to put one in my JA-90, but they're about $150 whereas I can buy ES-333 for about $500 and have a new guitar.
No. What scale length is your guitar? Doug Aldrich uses 11s on his Les Pauls for D-standard.
Even on gibson scale 56 is starting to push it for D
Are 10 - 56 gauge strings too heavy for D standard?
no way man, they'll be fine.
I decided to learn Sweet Child 'O Mine because my friend wants us to play at his Aunt's 50th birthday and I only know pop punk songs. Did not sound good.

Don't be one of those people. :D Or do you learn by ear?
I learn some songs by ear but not this one, it's not my style of music. I know it's half-step down, I play most of my stuff half-step down anyway when I'm not playing to the original song, I like the way it sounds. Also I don't know how you could mess up the tuning of a song, if you learn it and play it and it doesn't sound like the original song then you've fucked up somewhere. that's stupid. incredibly stupid.
We did, and they decided they couldn't be bothered to tune down on the actual gig...
My dad likes to tell me stories of when he played jazz around town with singers. He'd sit in with the band and occasionally after like three songs, the singer would say, "Play this one in A instead of C, my throat is sore." And they'd all say, "Sure!" and then look at each other and say, "C." Start playing and the singer had no idea, nor cared. Sometimes he got the response, "Thanks guys, that was a little easier" The entire band laughed.
