How do you guys get in the mood to learn and play? Nothing bad has happened but I'm not feeling it :v:
nothing makes me want to play more than watching videos of good drummers
How do you guys get in the mood to learn and play? Nothing bad has happened but I'm not feeling it :v:
I normally just listen to a good song that I can both play and sing to (even though I suck terribly at singing), and just transition from someone else's song into writing my own through improv or through things I've written in the past, and trying to find a new combination that works better than before until I have something I like from start to finish. As for learning, do something you can do easily or as easily as possible and then go further into learning something that is more difficult and don't be afraid of making small mistakes.
I normally find a song I really like and learn the first 30 seconds then repeat that same process
So I'm looking at getting a bass used, anyone have any suggestions on what to look out for? Price range is from about 200-400.
he heee my old squier still works http://good-mechs.info/secret/cheap.ogg (i recorded that dry into audacity first thing in the morning after having a fucking weird dream about living in a 7-eleven with a bunch of gymnasts. i am pretty sure i came up with those chord changes on the spot which means i am now obliged to use them for something. after i recorded it i went straight back to sleep again.)

If you want something more traditional, I think you can get Made In Mexico Fender Precisions and Jazz basses, as well as the high end Squier equivalents (they'll be good quality), or if you're after more modern sounding/looking stuff, Ibanez SR basses will always pop up used around that price. It all boils down to what you like the sound and look of. If you get the chance, go and see them before you buy them, cause then you'll be able to actually feel the instrument and see if you like it before buying. Personally, I'd say go for a Fender/Squier P or J. Or you might get lucky and find a P/J. A Jazz bass is a very simple bass that can do loads of different stuff.
my song is done. will probably make it longer when i release my ep [editline]18th January 2014[/editline] perhaps a playthrough?
I got my bass. A 5 string Squier Jazz Bass. Pics:
Does it have a pickguard? If not, it's probably a Deluxe Active Jazz 5. I tried one once and the neck was unbelievably wide to me. Then again, I don't have much experience of 5ers. How much did it set you back?
Just added the pictures so... But yeah it has a pickguard. Its also heavy as fuck.
Intonated my guitar by myself for the first time, sweet.
got this [IMG_THUMB]http://i.imgur.com/6hiZe4c.jpg[/IMG_THUMB] and this
Ah, crap... that :v: was supposed to be a star... sorry... :( [editline]19th January 2014[/editline] Anyways; I'm thinking of finally changing the strings on my acoustic guitar for the first time in probably two years. Which strings do you guys prefer? I normally do D'adarrio's 10-ga on my electric but haven't really found strings I absolutely love or absolutely hate for my acoustic, yet.
Just added the pictures so... But yeah it has a pickguard. Its also heavy as fuck.
Vintage Modified, nice choice. Can't go wrong with them really. [editline]19th January 2014[/editline] Pro Tools is fun.
I'm simply in love with bass after playing my bass. My lowest string is just so beautiful to listen to. It just rumbles and you can just feel the power in it.
I'm simply in love with bass after playing my bass. My lowest string is just so beautiful to listen to. It just rumbles and you can just feel the power in it.
that B string? Oh yeah. I'm pretty sure darkslicer goes lower.
that B string? Oh yeah. I'm pretty sure darkslicer goes lower.
Isn't he a guitarist?
Isn't he a guitarist?
So?
So?
For some reason I was thinking he was tuning a guitar lower than my bass.
For some reason I was thinking he was tuning a guitar lower than my bass.
He goes pretty close.
some people just can't be helped
got this [IMG_THUMB]http://i.imgur.com/6hiZe4c.jpg[/IMG_THUMB] and this
Man, olympic white and red tort is the best Jaguar colour combo. Now you gotta get all Rowland S. Howard up ins! (Minus the heroin addiction; you don't gotta get all heroin addiction up ins. Maybe just mime to a Birthday Party record and stagger around a bit okay bub? Don't do smack kids.)
Also whoever it was that said they wanted a copy of my band's EP months and months ago when I first posted about it, it never really had any work done to it by the guy we asked to do it. He took the files and did piss all with the editing of it, so we've decided to do it ourselves. We're a bit sneaky with the solos, in that we've cut and pasted bits from different solo takes to make a single solo in some of the songs, but they all sound properly done and like they could have been from a single take. We took about 3 hours last night just to sort out the solos, in all about 12 or so. It was pretty hard work, but we also did mess around a bit as evidenced by the video I posted before (I have another one I'll post later on). Next time we practice we'll re-listen to the solos to see if they all still sound good, and then we'll be looking at if anything else needs sorting out and changing the takes. After that it'll be the final mixing, then mastering. I originally thought that editing and mixing would have been far too much work for us to do as a band but it's turned out to be a lot easier than we thought it would be, which is good. We're finally making good progress, and we're getting it to sound how we want it to sound. The guy we asked to do it somehow EQ'd the guitar tracks so that they went from super crunchy cranked up Marshalls to fuzzy nonsense. Why and how he did that I will never know but the un-EQ'd tracks sound super good so we're going to try and keep it as raw sounding as possible. Once we're done with this, released it and everything, we're looking at recording a second EP later in the year.
Bending the string at the tuning peg makes a world of difference to my tuning stability.

Carvin has Black and White Limba for wood options now. It's hot.
I don't know if anybody else shares the same feelings, but I used to play trumpet quite well and having started playing guitar its quite annoying to know so much but be almost completely unable to get any ideas out. I have to say though, there's something quite satisfying about the guitar. The trumpet is so punctual, every note is this distinct piece and sound, and playing seems to be focused in a more machine like way, whereas with guitar the physical motion make sit a lot more fun and easier to get into the rhythm. It's not that playing the trumpet isn't fun, but I find the guitar a lot more accessible musically, even though it physically isn't, compared to the trumpet which only requires you to move 3 fingers in a fixed, physically easy position.
which is why ska sucks two instruments that should never be together [editline]20th January 2014[/editline] but yeah playing guitar is more like dancing sometimes
Guitar is amazing and is a lifesaver to me.
http://www.labella.com/products/hrs-custom/ I love. Will build a custom set with a .100 string as low B0 for my 9 string that comes in next month  They also ship all around the world (5$ international mail) while circle k strings want over 20$ to ship to another country.
