I just got into the whole singer songwriter thing, and I'm looking for something I could use to record my voice, but also my guitar, and maybe also plug in my electric. What do you all recommend? also leo kottke is the tits, he rages the 12 string
I'm no expert on recording gear but I'm guessing a USB interface like this would work?
Was trying to make some progress on comfortably numb, got carried away, hello two step bend with 11s and playing too fast. also out of tune :v: and bad, I did it better a week ago.
Got a few new packs of planet waves picks in the mail this morning. Everyone needs some glow in the dark picks... Although those light .50s feel weird, think the lightest pick I have ever used is a .20mm my father gave me from some obscure brand that I am pretty sure doesn't exist anymore. Oh well... At the end of the day the pick bowl is getting more and more full, better catch up absinthe :v:
what are your opinions on Dunlop Jazz-3 picks?
what are your opinions on Dunlop Jazz-3 picks?
I loved them for quite some time but I made the mistake of picking up a regular tortex pick again and liked the size. I used the jazz III XL which was a little better but I am hooked on just plain old picks again. It's really a size thing for me, I have huge hands and right now regular picks just feel better.
my guitar teacher keeps telling me to get Jazz 3s. they do feel more precise when doing lead stuff but the Tortex .73 feels better overall
my guitar teacher keeps telling me to get Jazz 3s. they do feel more precise when doing lead stuff but the Tortex .73 feels better overall
I think a lot of people prefer them for lead playing, they always felt more precise but in the end I can do the same with a tortex when I get used to them. The Jazz III's sound brighter with the fine point on them though.
what are your opinions on Dunlop Jazz-3 picks?
I always found the regular ones way too small, but the XL ones are pretty nice. Fairly solid with minimal bend and they have pretty good longevity, they lasted a lot longer that most other picks I've used for playing bass. That said, I've moved on to blue Tortex or yellow Gel.

I pretty much strictly play with these: Clayton Teardrop .8mm
my guitar teacher keeps telling me to get Jazz 3s. they do feel more precise when doing lead stuff but the Tortex .73 feels better overall
I play using a Tortex TIII, which is a hybrid of a regular Tortex and a Jazz III. It might be a good alternative.

I've got quite big hands so my thumb and finger take up most of the pick when I hold it in a way that's comfortable for me. That's why I like the XL ones.

That's why I like the XL ones.
That's why I love the Clayton picks. They're small enough that my enormous thumb completely touches the pick so I don't drop it and leaves the tip exposed just enough to pluck the strings the way I like and they're about the only picks I can use that I can pinch with pretty much on demand.
I took the back plate off my Fender Blacktop Stratocaster and changed the metal spring layout and added two heavier ones on the outer hooks. I put heavier gauge strings on and the bridge was going up before that, fixed it and now the guitar stays better in tune and tone has improved, this is such a simple thing which changed so much for me.
Where do you guys buy your picks, I live in the Netherlands but can't seem to find a good site. Or do you just buy them at a local music store?
Local here.
Where do you guys buy your picks, I live in the Netherlands but can't seem to find a good site. Or do you just buy them at a local music store?
Normally I buy them at my favorite guitar store, but I've bought a few packs off musicianfriend.com
Estonian song contest final starting soon, deciding which song goes to eurovision. Shit ballad go! I hope these guys get through just because it's 3 fat guys with guitars instead of some young girl who can sing a ballad.
nope, it was generic eurovision song 07232
So I'm basically just looking around seeing what kind of guitars I could get in the £300 - £500 range, can you guys give me any suggestions? As I said before, I currently have a Ibanez GRGR121EX which cost about £160. It works fine for me but I have some money atm so I'm wondering if it would be worth upgrading. Few things: -Pretty much has to have 24 frets -I like superstrat bodies mainly -6 strings, I have no need for more -Happy to look at buying second hand if it means I can get a better one. -My current guitar has a fixed bridge, so it might be nice to get one with a tremolo of some kind. So yeah if you have any suggestions or advice that would be cool. Thanks. [editline]1st March 2014[/editline] Oh also, I came across this on ebay. I'm not bothered about the fact its a Kirk Hammett one (though that probably means you are paying a premium for the name) but does anyone know if these are any good? The KH-2 etc are like £1000+ so I was surprised to find one for under £500.
Signature guitars don't always mean you're just paying premium for the name. I'd buy (and have bought) a signature series guitar because it was designed by the artist for the music that they play. The guitar you found will probably be good for blues and metal styles. [editline]2nd March 2014[/editline] In fact when I was looking to buy a guitar I checked the gear used by my favourite artists to find a guitar that suites me best. Look up guitarists that play music similar to the music you like to play and look up what guitar they're using.
Also another quick question: Are Floyd Roses as bad as I've heard? I hear that they are a real pain in the ass and cause the guitar to go out of tune very easily.
Who ever told you that doesn't seem to know how to work one. They're only time consuming. I've gotten string changes down to about an hour, then tuning to a half hour. Pros do it much much faster though. If it's a POS clone, then yes it will suck. [editline]1st March 2014[/editline] As long as it is set up well, there will be no problems
Also another quick question: Are Floyd Roses as bad as I've heard? I hear that they are a real pain in the ass and cause the guitar to go out of tune very easily.
They really aren't. Honestly, I pick up my Floyd guitar and it's usually closer to perfect tuning than my others. Get the strings broken in and the nut secured and they stay in tune fine. And if it isn't, a few twists on the fine tuners will do it. The only problem is, you need to pick one tuning and stick with it. If you change tuning you have to set the whole thing up again.
Yeah floyd roses are a great system, they are gonna have the disadvantages of any other floating trem but if you have a quality one and it is set up right it can be abused like hell and come back to pitch. As for other tunings it can be difficult but you do have the option to put a tremol-no in it to lock it in place if you wanna down tune on the fly.
