I wish dorito's looked that good.
might need to check one out I'm really trying to not buy any more guitars that have a belly cut in the back though
Honestly I think he should try and find out what the guitar came with so he won't have to do any truss rod adjustments.
I have this guitar: http://www.fender.com.au/acoustics/acousticelectric/dg14sce.php It's listed on this site: http://www.musiciansbuy.com/prod.asp?ic=0951405-021 as having Fender Phosphor Bronze 60L strings. So I need these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-60L-Phosphor-Bronze-Acoustic-Strings-12-53-/330895854453?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4d0aee0b75 Right?
that's the only thing stopping me from buying a telecaster, they don't have them. atleast the standard ones

http://www.daddario.com/DADProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3769&productid=74&productname=EJ16_Phosphor_Bronze__Light__12_53 The idea is to try and stick with the gauge of strings the guitar came with so you don't end up having to set up your guitar.
that's the only thing stopping me from buying a telecaster, they don't have them. atleast the standard ones
Buy a Tele and carve it yourself. All you need is a rasp and/or sandpaper. And some rattlecan lacquer.
I'm expanding my old time country blues repertoire, starting to work with open tunings and a slide. Now I know I'm no Robert Johnson, certainly no Son House, but I am picking it up pretty quickly by incorporating some of my other country blues skills, and now I've gotten to the point where I'm serious about it and I need a real slide. At the moment I'm just using random objects - lighters, bits of metal, glass, knives, tube shields, etc. Slide is something I don't see discussed on here much, so let's talk slides. Glass vs metal? I can get a metal one made for me at a machine shop, so what metals should I look into? I'm thinking stainless steel, I think that's a pretty common slide material, but at the shop I might have access to some scrap exotic alloys. I hear brass is really good, but I also hear it's expensive. Thoughts?
I use the bottom of my phone as a slide when I want to fool around :v:
I use the bottom of my phone as a slide when I want to fool around :v:
Yeah that's where I'm at, kinda what I'm doing, only I'm done fooling around. I want to get seriously into the Mississippi Delta style of country blues, and for that, I'll need a slide that will stay tight on my finger. I've noticed while using a lighter that plastic isn't bad as a slide, and I also might have access at the shop to polymers like delrin or lexan and stuff like that, so if anyone has experience with that kind of stuff tell me what you think.
I would assume down in the delta most guys probably used bottlenecks
I would assume down in the delta most guys probably used bottlenecks
Yeah they did. I read up on it and I think how they usually did it was they would get one of those long neck wine bottles and cut it with a hot wire then sand it down at the end. I might end up doing that, at least as an experiment to see whether I could make a good one of my own. But I also want to check out some metal ones because the sound is a little different. At the moment though I'm just exploring the various options.
They did, though Son House used a piece of 1/2 inch (I think) copper pipe.
They did, though Son House used a piece of 1/2 inch (I think) copper pipe.
Yeah I'm going to get some cuts of different tubing, I want to try some of the whole spectrum so I'm going to get copper, stainless steel, brass, maybe some plastics, see which one's best. Temporarily though, I went through my tools and found a 14mm wrench socket that fits perfectly on my ring finger, it's just got a little too much excess material on the end which makes it a little too long and heavy. I might actually just have this socket cut down and see how that works because the hex shape inside is actually comfortable.

He thinks cutting the neck off a bottle is stupid and won't let me :smith:
Geezus.
A new sound for every day of the week.
I like the inlays on the neck
look at that fucking thing
now that's a fucking nice color scheme mmm
look at that fucking thing
I love vintage colors. Unless it is a house with green counter tops and a yellow tinted bathroom...
My dad uses a socket for a slide. He thinks cutting the neck off a bottle is stupid and won't let me :smith:
Can't you just buy one?
Can't you just buy one?
I could, but the only thing I'm buying right now are strings, and I have enough of those for a while.

Is there any brand out there that is to acoustic guitars what Agile is to extended scale electrics? Reasonably inexpensive, high quality, not really known, that sort of thing.
only brand like that I've heard of is faith chappers says they're pretty good
So I got fooled by a chinese les paul today... Kind of an embarrassment but this time a friend of a friend brought it over and asked for a setup. At the time he didn't say anything about it being fake and on the surface everything was correct. And I mean everything. The binding was right, the headstock was right... It played very well, I wouldn't say it played like a gibson but it played well. And all the hardware worked great and I got it setup and intonated perfectly. So he comes by to pick it up and he is sitting there playing it and he says "not bad for a copy huh?" I thought he was fucking with me but to prove it we pulled out one of the pickups and it wasn't until then that I could see the veneer sitting on top of the guitar. But without looking closer I wouldn't have known, everything was routed exactly like a les paul. The routes were even clean. The only dead give away was the control cavity which had your usual cheap china pots in it. But man this thing was nuts, it was beautiful. It scares the shit out of me though because the chinese copies are getting so good that pretty soon we won't know the difference.
only brand like that I've heard of is faith chappers says they're pretty good
Looks like a pain to buy outside the UK, unfortunately.
ive checked up aliexpress (think it was posted here) some of these china guitars are tempting for the price I mean, with a good setup, it may end up pretty well and some really look killer. maybe I'll try one of their acrylic guitar one day just to know how it is

I can see the flaws but would your average person know?
