Yes slide up from nothing very quickly to create this unique slide up before the note sound. Make sure you very quickly slide up (for example start to slide up quick from fret 4,5 or 6 to 9)
so basicly start sliding from say, 6, without having picked the note. got it! thanks.

So I just learned an important lesson yesterday. I cannot make the stretch between the second and fifth fret on my eight string without seriously hurting my hand.
