are the fender blacktop strats worth getting? thinking about picking up an HSH as my next guitar because goddamn if strats aren't sexy
I love jazz but I hate most jazz guitar solos
it just makes me cringe

definitely some good learning in that video though and it's already confirmed a few things I had worked out on my own
How could anyone hate this, it's so groovy

One of my friends tried one when he was away a while ago, he's not that fond of Strats (beats me why, they're the best), and even he liked it. It was an HH model, but the playability should be the same for an HSH one.
jeez im getting a lot better at playing Knee Socks, now, so satisfying. but it hurts my fingers with all those slides. im still sore from yesterday :c i can feel it typing this out right now
I haven't touched an acoustic in months and I borrowed my friend's and my finger hurt for the first time in a while but going back to the electric was a lot easier. Practicing at that higher tension made me better at the electric.

well yeah but that's hardly the jazz style I was thinking of when I posted that
specifically the stuff I don't like is stuff like wes montgomery or django reinhardt
I hate to use such a subjective term but there's no feeling to it, it always seems like they're just wandering around the neck
[editline]12th May 2014[/editline]
still though wes and django are great with a band but their solos just rub me the wrong way
Why are musicians often so hard to get along with band wise? So many are stuck up arrogant pricks that only push their own mindset onto everything :/ while in worklife or group situations almost always everyone is playing their role openly and good but when it comes to music ohohohoho fighting imminent.

Wawawewa, Django and Wes are so amazing though, I guess smooth jazz isn't your thing

man all the bands i am in are like the complete opposite
practice goes for half an hour then it is time to rip bongs and play connect four
it is great fun but it is hard to get an opinion out of anyone or get anything done really
[editline]14th May 2014[/editline]
also wes isn't "smooth" jazz, smooth jazz is guys like kenny g
wes played cool jazz
i think his solos were at there coolest when he would move away from the linear stuff and do more chordal improvisation
that shit was cray

Sucks to be you. My bandmates are open to all ideas from everyone. Sometimes we get into arguments about some pieces and we usually compromise and try everyone's idea once. Then we all come to a conclusion on whose piece was best. No hard feelings anywhere.
Atleast I have my solo project caynug to vent off, I would go insane without it I guess.
And your venting is glorious so it's all good in the hood.
I can't record anything yet because I need to practice a shitload with a metronome and I have no mic stands that I can use for cabs.

I wish I could properly mic a cab but I can't crank my amp up loud enough. I hate living in an apartment.

nah bebop is great and I love fingerpickin
Putting 13-62 gauge strings on my strat, already fitted with additional stronger springs at the back to counter bridge rising too far out, also 13's because fuck my fingers, I'll play with stumps if I have to.
nothing says overcompensation like .13s
I don't know if I would even want to go that high, I have pretty much stuck with flatwound 11's ever since I first tried them. Make any guitar feel and sound a little like a decent jazz box, plus they're a good middle ground between the heaviest and lightest of strings. Feel really similar to an acoustic as well so it's easier to transition between them.
Also Django is tremendous, it would have been great if he had lived longer and produced more material on the electric guitar, with bigger amps and the better sounds from those amps that came just a short time later.
This sounds fantastic though and he even drives the amp a little bit on one part of the song.

I'm gonna need to try those at one point, I went for baritone nickel wounded 13's so I can play lower tunings.
nothing says overcompensation like .13s
This is not really overcompensating, in 50's or 60's 13 gauge strings on strats was pretty much standard, the moment I learned about it I decided to get 13's and add more springs to my bridge to hold them better, not to mention I have hot pickups so having this strat with thinner strings just does not let it reach full potential. Some say it's even the only proper way to handle strats.

aneurysm, lithium, school, heart shaped box, dive with me
Here's my take on afternoon in paris. I'll be playing it like this tomorrow in my test. Both the chords with the walking bassline at the same time and that solo. What do you guys think?

Better than anything I can play, damn nice.
Did you seriously play everything at once? I love Tommy Emmanuel, and he rarely plays something that sounds like that. That's some high class shit.
