I just lowered my pickups on my strat so they are flat to the pickguard, wow what a difference it makes. Every note in a chord appears in brilliant detail, easily distinguishable. It's like somebody took the fog off my guitar. Not only that, but it in general it sounds more full yet the notes are easily distinguished from each other. This is using the neck pickup, but the bridge also sounds really interesting too. Still trebly but more clear.
Obviously it now lacks the classic bite , but I like this a lot more. Reminds me of a piano!
Has anyone else here tried this? I guess, part of the stratocaster sound is having pickups closer to the string, but to my ears this tone is just amazing.
edit:
here's a sample.

I also just put on Pyramid Classic (pure nickel) round core strings. They have better sustain, and definitely use a lot less tension. I had to readjust my tremolo springs after putting these in.
They sound pretty loud unplugged too.
In general they just look and feel high quality. They're 12 bucks a pack at 11-50, wound g string, but they seem to be vastly better than other strings. At least, to my ears and hands.
[QUOTE=absinthe;44993420]ebay's trying to take all my money again help[/QUOTE]
well they only made off with some of my money and there's an ibanez awd82 on the way
gonna try swapping pickups in a semi-hollow I guess

I always run my bridge pickups relatively high and the neck and middle pretty low
[editline]4th June 2014[/editline]
except for when I'm feeling frisky then I do the reverse
I was messing around with some effects and came up with this:

The bass is pretty low but I don't feel it was important, also what genre would you say this is?
[editline]4th June 2014[/editline]
I think I might use it in a game somewhere down the line. It would sound nice in an ice cavern sort of stage.
The first string on my Epiphone, which I barely play, broke again, so I went "fuck it", straightened the neck and raised the action, tuned to E Major. Going to learn some slide

I read this post and decided to lower the pickups on my Les Paul, and holy crap this sounds great. I don't know why I had them so close to the strings, it just made the sound muddy an unclear, but now I can hear the notes I'm playing, and it doesn't give me nearly as much background noise.
and there's less magnetic pull on the strings
[QUOTE=absinthe;45011830]and there's less magnetic pull on the strings[/QUOTE]
Supposedly more sustain from that.
Carvin dropped their 7 string tele model today.

My mate did the exact same thing with the Blackouts on his Explorer and he described the exact same changes.
So are you actually lowering them so they're flush with the pickguard or is that an exaggeration?
shit, no wonder my tone is muddy, my bridge pickup is high as fuck
i gotta try this lowering thing
[QUOTE=MasterFen006;45015052]So are you actually lowering them so they're flush with the pickguard or is that an exaggeration?[/QUOTE]
I lowered them flush, and I like the sound. But they don't have to be flush to get a different sound.
Somebody put it this way. Higher pickup - more pickup, lower pickup - more guitar. A lower pickup seems to make me play more dynamically, similar to an acoustic. Every note and movement matters, instead of being lost in the compression or what have you.
Once again I suck at strumming patterns. Can someone type it out for me for this?

If I somehow fucked up the link it's the Hysteria by Muse lesson from Justinguitar 6 minutes in.
I can't figure out the strumming pattern.
Pls type it out like DD DU DU (just an exampe) :D <3<3 xoxoxoxo
down updownup down up down up updown or something
i'm paraphrasing, that's how i play it i think
tbh if i were playing that i would prob just downstroke the entire thing.

[editline]7th June 2014[/editline]

[editline]7th June 2014[/editline]
nvm youre right

I'm pretty much nailing it now, feels great. But I just have one question, I mute all the strings I don't need successfully, but it has a weird "sharp" noise to it when I start rocking out? It bothers me a bit
either it's something in your tone settings making those muted strings have more presence or you're accidentally playing harmonics. sometimes strumming a little harder helps but maybe try not muting it if possible.
It's really hard for me to keep a beat by alternating between up and down picks. I just seem to fuck it up. Still sounds good with only down picks though. Learning the bass riff in Hysteria.
try accenting the downbeat
[editline]8th June 2014[/editline]
or every other downbeat
well fuck guitar pro won't count above 32 so I can't properly write down my sick 35/32 jams
Well my Explorer arrived. Now I have to get rid of the black.

And now to wait for the EMG 85/81 pickups
I hope that includes new pickup rings
Well it was bound to happen to my new guitar at some point... Gotta be honest this is becoming a pain in the ass because it is not easy to clean up.

is that blood. how the hell did you manage to bleed on your guitar.
[QUOTE=Zar;45041283]is that blood. how the hell did you manage to bleed on your guitar.[/QUOTE]
Dry skin around my finger nails, it cracks and bleeds. It has happened quite a few times now, I am thinking about going to see someone about it because it is becoming a problem. Regular hand lotion doesn't seem to do anything about it.
if it just suddenly cracks and bleeds that much, yes i would advise you to. i know you were probably strumming while bleeding, but still looks like it spouted a bit
How do you even? Shit can't be normal.
especially since his fingers just suddenly crack open and bleed around his nails???? from barely putting any stress on his fingers? unless he applies superhuman force to his pick
