I got my new guitar today! The case is locked and the seller forgot to put the key in the box...
Sheeit, now if only I could record the output audio and I'd be the cheapest motherfucker in music.
Audacity. Set microphone to stereomix. Good to go.
It seems that in this version of Garage Band, the only amp sim that can do a not poopy high gain sound is the Marshall sound-alike. Such is my life.
Ok I bring the guitar to the guitar builder tomorrow, I guess I need to live with that small dent on the front.
If you wanna you can just go hipster on it and get an applesticker on it :D
Okay phew, apparently Fender enjoys this horrible thing where the locks themselves slide to the side and than the latches pop allowing the case to open. It wasn't actually locked, I'm just an idiot.

Wicker how is your hand resting on the bridge? You don't need to push your hand into the strings, you just need them to be touching the strings the tiniest bit.

That's quite a funny idea, I would never put an apple sticker on it tho! I want the guitar to vibrate at the fulliest so no stickers for me!
I am still unsure if I can live with the 2 small finish probs, im picky as hell. The only reason I would keep it is because the next delivery to germany is in 4 months and that's a no brainer, I want this guitar now!

HOLY SHIT THANKS FOR THE IDEA I NEED THIS!

would fit the low tuned baritone it is and I can cover the small finish flaw! :>

It's not the resting that hurts, it's alternating between muted and unmuted that gets me - I'm nut sure of the technique as I'm new to it but whenever I pull my hand away it catches on the screws coming from the saddles.
Here's a picture of what I'm on about (not my picture though)

I was able to palm mute on my Dad's old Vox find. While I can accomplish it on the strat, it uncomfortable - then there's what I previously explained.
Nigga, the saddles are really low. You can cut off the screws or find shorter ones.

Excuse you?

:v:
now all you gotta do is hook it up to your iPhone and use it as an amp!!!!!!!!!!!
also remember it's only okay to edit music on apple computers, and the have to cost at least 2k
Anyone have advice on doing pinch harmonics? No matter how I seem to put my thumb on the pick I just can't seem to do them.
You need to find the right points on the string to do it as well. It's not just thumb positioning. For example, on my Bullet Strat, I get good harmonics when I do them above the middle pickup. Enough gain as well, if you're looking for a properly defined squeal.
yay! I'm getting an acoustic tomorrow

I never use my thumb, but then again I can't do that many
Anyone have advice on doing pinch harmonics? No matter how I seem to put my thumb on the pick I just can't seem to do them.
they're also much easier to hear on the bridge pickup
Anyone have advice on doing pinch harmonics? No matter how I seem to put my thumb on the pick I just can't seem to do them.
use the bridge pickup, add distortion or gain (they're hard to hear on clean), upping the treble on your amp can help. try doing the pinching in different areas, they're often easier in the middle of the space between the fretboard and the bridge.
If your guitar has a middle single coil, try just in front of the pole pieces on it. That usually gets me good results, in that area. Do it unplugged too, so you don't have to rely on the amp to make them sound out. It takes practice.

I took these photos a while back for someone on here who needed help, kind of explaining the position your pick needs to be in for pinch harmonics.
Normal Pick position

Pinch harmonic position

You kind of roll in your thumb and index finger in and it will pull the pick in only exposing about 1mm of the pick. After that it is about finding the nodes on your guitar where the harmonic will take place, this is a process of picking in different spots to see if you can get the harmonic to ring out. Like for my Ibanez it is right over the neck pickup ring.
It will take a little practice but they aren't all that hard.
I don't hold my pick like that - is it 'wrong' to hold it like I'm doing? I find this more relaxing, and I've been holding it like this for a year.

I hold mine about the same, I don't do the knuckle thing since that just feels like I have less control.

I'm no expert but I've found holding my pick like you are is fine if you're strumming - especially on acoustic, however when it comes to electric guitar and doing faster picking sequences it benefits to hold it the way Nazereth showed. Holding it his way is also more stable, I often found myself dropping the pick or it pinging out of my fingers while holding it an the very end of my finger.
Is it bad I hold mine slightly perpendicular to the strings (maybe like more than 45 degrees)? I'll take a picture to explain it tomorrow.
Everyone holds pics differently, it's not horrible if you hold it differently.
That being said the way you're holding it sounds weird, masterfen

This is what my pinch harmonics sound like. They're sounding closer but they still just don't sound right.
On the plus side heres some pictures of the new guitar.

I hold my pick like that when I am strumming but when the time comes for more precise picking I switch my grip.

Yeah, I hold it kinda like a pen. I should stop but I keep defaulting to it.
Nazereth have you ever played the blue album all the way through from start to finish without stopping? I just tried and fucked up on buddy holly of all songs.
Good beginner acoustic songs? I just played Where Did You Sleep last Night? the cover by Nirvana, that went pretty well. Also the tension is much higher on an acoustic!! My fingers hurt after 30 minutes of playing... I love it. Now I'm learning Polly by Nirvana. I would like to learn some fingerpicking as well, any easy John Mayer songs??
[editline]28th June 2014[/editline]
other songs are welcome too!
First song I learned on acoustic was 'Better Together' by Jack Johnson.
It's relatively easy.
