A genre would help. Distortion for what? A Boss DS-1 is pretty versatile but I assume you want something more, and something more leans in the direction of a genre.
Heavy Metal. For a specific band in that genre Iron Maiden.
Heavy Metal. For a specific band in that genre Iron Maiden.
I think a lot of guitar stores let you try out amps and pedals before you buy one, you could look through a few if there's a store near you and find one you like
Heavy Metal. For a specific band in that genre Iron Maiden.
I've always liked the OD as a boost approach, retains the character of your amp. Of course if your amp is shit then by all means run a dist. pedal into the clean channel, but I would try them out at your local GC/equivalent first
For fucks sake I just spent a half an hour diagnosing a tuning issue with my floyd rose equipped LTD. I was having the d string detune when I would do pull-ups on the trem and I immediately suspected the saddle or the string lock insert. The insert did have a slight groove in it from the string but nothing to write home about so I took a file to it to flatten it out. Put it back together and it is doing the same thing, at this point I am checking out how I am inserting the string into the saddle, the nut, and even the knife edges in a moment of desperation. Then I noticed something, "I don't remember the saddle sitting that far forward..." my brain told me, soon followed by a face palm so hard that my hand went through my forehead. The mounting screw for the saddle was loose and the saddle was just ever so slightly inching it's way forward. So yeah, guitar tip of the day, if you are having tuning issues with a specific string on your floyd rose be sure that the first thing you check is if all the hardware is tight and secure. I'm gonna go drink a fifth of jack and drown in my sorrows.
Heavy Metal. Otherwise, try maybe a Sansamp GT2 or one of their british amp emulation pedals and see if it comes close.
Hey guys, I was looking at baritone and bass guitars, and didn't know which one to buy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1oSM1jbLJU I like this but I hear that you can't play it on a guitar amp for too long or it will mess it up...and it doesn't sound too good on a bass amp
oh man the new paul gilbert album is hella rad
Won a pair of tickets to the nearest Weezer show on the radio. Shows on the 13th! :fuckyeah:
Holy shit
Holy shit
I get a slight feeling that you are a Weezer fan, can't tell what it is...

Guys what are the pros and cons with short scale guitars? Because my guitar store just got some Fender Short Scale Modern Player guitars in, and they look beautiful. I'm tempted to get one, they're surprisingly cheap. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] Absolutely beautiful. It's around 535 bucks, bear in mind everything is pricier in Denmark compared to the states :) [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] It's a 24" btw [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] my current guitar is 25,5"
As far as I'm aware there isn't really anything different or bad with shorter scale guitars. If you feel like a regular scale guitar's too big of course they'll be better for you.
I don't feel like they're too big. Is the difference between a 24" and 25.5" large enough for there to be a noticeable difference, soundwise? [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] as long as i can see the board im fine pretty much. thats why i have some sliht issues with acoustics, too fat for me to see what im doing :C

yeah but is the difference really that large from 25.5 to 24? they just look so nice, and the price is pretty amazing...
Shorter scale lengths produce higher overtones, while long scale lengths produce low overtones. Which means that a 24 inch is going to sound brighter than your 25.5 which will sound warmer.
The longer the scale the more harmonic content your string also haves, that's why a 30 scale guitar sounds very more stringey than a shorter scale one in the overtones.
doesnt John Mayer play an old Fender Mini Strat when he does live concerts? sounds pretty good and looks light for him. anyway I found out for around 200 bucks more you can get a fully fledged strat, made in their factory in Mexico. Those are great right? this one: http://www.4sound.dk/shop/elektriske-guitarer/fender/mex-std-tele-mn-artic-white.html this is mostly just my future plans for when i can get a new guitar.

I know, it was just an example of people using short scale guitars and still getting good sound. I don't know if he actually uses a short scale one though, just looks like it. I believe he has a green-ish beat up one that might be a short scale one.
the latest ibanez I bought from ebay is a 24" and it's by far my favorite neck to play on [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] it's actually made me seek out other 24" necks in favor of other guitars I was considering purchasing
Yeah im just having a hard time about seeing the line between sound snobs who claims the difference is worlds apart, and people who dont know much about guitars like me. like i cant tell a lot of difference between a mexican tele and an american one, add an effect and thers basicly no difference
Well there is a difference for guitars that are 27 and 30, the 3 scale lenght changes quite much but that's out of the range that we talk about so nvm. If you want soundclips I can provide some.
regardless of sound, the shorter scale just feels great to me
almost got the first part of the 'Money' solo by Pink Floyd down
regardless of sound, the shorter scale just feels great to me
I remember the first time I played a les paul before I knew about scale length I was always turned off by the lower string tension. I thought I was going nuts because it was strung up with a 10-46 gauge that I used at the time, I thought my fingers got incredibly strong overnight or something. Now that I know about the scale length differences I love the 24 3/4" scale length and 24" scale length. Don't get me wrong I am a really heavy handed player but there is something relaxing about playing a guitar with a shorter scale length. It feels effortless to me.
this discussion prompted me to build another guitar at warmoth this time I could actually afford it
My Klein pickup just arrived. It's a 1965 neck pickup. I wanted to replace my neck because it's staggered flat, and I play 12s with wound g string so it doesn't sound right. I hear good things about these pickups. Anybody here use vintage/CS pickups or know anything about them?
