I thought that died in 2012, imagine my surprise when I noticed last week that it still isn't gone and that it has barely changed at all.

You guys are all refering to this genre.

Also I'm looking to learn something cool for bass, genre doesn't matter a whole lot as long as I don't have to change my tuning (B standard 5-string).
"Djent"
I'd rather not call it a guitar sound but Progressive (Groove) Metal.
Monuments are unlike any other band in this "scene", that can't be denied.
I made an interesting discovery about my Firebird, at some point it had been converted to a lefty and later converted back to a righty, but whoever converted it back forgot to glue the nut in and flip the saddles in the bridge back.

It works, both pickups work as well as the selector switch (you can hear both, then bridge then neck in that order in the link above), but none of the vol/tone pots do anything at all.
Has anyone heard of this issue and what could be causing it?
Reposting this on the new page because I really want the help.
I think they call it "hardcore".
The biggest problem with diagnosing an issue like that over the internet is that there could be quite a few different things wrong with the circuit. I wish I could offer you more advice but you really have to just go look at a complete wiring diagram for a les paul and compare it to the wiring you currently have and correct any mistakes you see.
I always try and offer my service for free for you guys on here. If the guitar is worth enough to you I would get it up and running for free if you pay for shipping and materials if needed.

I'll try and make a diagram out of the wiring, if that helps.

If you could, it might give me a better idea of how it is wired. I'll see if I can spot out anything wrong.
he's right?
I can't tell if this is a conspiracy so I'm gonna step away from the keyboard for a moment.
Alright, I managed to make something legible that shows what kind of state my LP's wiring is in.
From what I can tell there's no bridge ground although I believe I found the hole for it (can you install a bridge ground wire without destringing the guitar?), also none of the pots are grounded to each other, I believe this is another fault on my part.

I'll be out all day tomorrow so I won't be able to respond for a while, so hopefully this'll be enough.
I want to get a new guitar (again) and I'm having a hard time deciding.
Help me pick?
Jackson SLATXMG3-6 Soloist with EMG 81/85

Might seem like a bad choice only picking out guitars with EMG pickups but I'll probably switch out my current guitar pickups for blackouts so I kinda want to have guitars with both EMG & SD.
don't you love it when the only tab for a song you want to learn isn't even in the right tuning?

The soloist, for sure.

Looking at it I can see the pots are grounded to each other, that yellow wire is grounding the pots together. Right off the bat I can see that the pickup switch is wired wrong. The two wires going to the pots from the switch are on the wrong post on the pot. They should both be soldered to the middle post on the volume pots. As it is wired now the volume switches are doing nothing as you said.
You will need to wire in a bridge ground and you will have to take the strings off to do that. That hole I had pointed out in previous posts is where the bridge ground runs. You need to determine which bridge bushing that hole is connected to and then pull the bushing out and wedge a bare wire between the bushing and the hole it goes in to. That bridge ground wire will then be soldered to the back of the nearest pot to ground the whole system.
Try fixing those two things and then report back and let me know if it works.
[editline]5th September 2014[/editline]
On a second thought add another ground wire to the back of the pots between the neck tone pot and the bridge tone pot.

Soloist or the EC1000 with Evertune!
I like the trim on the EC1000 and kill switch position, but the soloist has a tremolo

These are super expensive in Sweden, the ones I linked are about about 400-500$ each used. And I can't really afford a brand new guitar.
Edit: the king v and soloist have never been played outside a guitar shop.
