I've yet to understand muting, as you can tell. [sp]dcalde if you see this im so so sorry[/sp]
Hey guys long time no post...
I am redoing my guitar, completely stripping it of its finish and doing a stain because the previous guy fucked the paint up.
Question though what do I do in terms of sanding where the fretboard meets the neck because the sides of the fretboard are clearcoated. Can I sand that then mask off and stain or should I not sand it at all?

In other news I got a tube amp from 1954 that was given to me
And now I got a 12 string acoustic that I love.
So as it turns out, a lot of fancy fingerstyle stuff is played in DADGAD, so I've been playing like six different things in the last two days. I've mostly figured out Drifting, I'm working on Knock on Wood (insanely fun, would recommend), and I'm slowly working on Wings You Are the Hero which I think I posted already.
Seriously, try Knock on Wood. It's so fun to play.
Mask it! Or strip it as well and just use your 3 in one oil on it and the rest of the fretboard.
And dadgad is an amazing tuning
Careful with dadgad tho, at start it sounds amazing and awesome but soon you might get sounding all the same since it haves this open drone note (was it G in that tuning?). It's hard to be versatile with songwriting in that tuning if you focus on interesting chords/exotic stuff because it gives a narrow view on moods. It's kinda a winner for background celtic stuff tho!
[editline]12th October 2014[/editline]
I used it for a long time but I started to dislike it a little bit because it sounds so.. happy. I am a minor infected musician.
are there any songs in bagdad tuning?
there are in fagdad

Well what I was trying to go for was this on the whole guitar with a little bit of shine to it.

Seems like a multiscale with these would be pretty neat. They're not as ugly as the dude's original single-string pickups.
So after coming back from a prank thread (with these stupid "pranks" like fart people in the face in the hood) in video discussion to here I got an idea!
How about I start building guitars and sell them for a couple of thousands, if people don't like it I just say "it's a prank bro, chill just a prank" and give them their money back. I might even call my company ivanez.

So apparently bulb is doing the soundtrack for the master chief collection
Anyone have advice on transcribing a song? Found a song that has no tabs whatsoever anywhere and I want to learn to play it, and I have no idea where to start.
I don't even know how to tell what key its in.
I want to get an rg8, for 8 strings ibanez seems to suit me. I also wanted to get a rp360x, is it an improvement over the old 2009 rp90?

try listening for open strings, really easy or common chords, power chords, ect. if it's a particular chord you don't know, play the song over several times and try to listen to and "imagine" the individual notes of the chords. you could also try looking at live videos and hopefully that'll give you a clue as to which position on the fretboard you should be.
Yeah I've been looking at videos a lot. Pretty much the only reason I've figured out two chords used in the song. Also managed to figure out what key its in, I think.

http://www.sygyt.com/en/free-spectrum-analyzer
If you get a logarithmic spectrum analyzer with a pitch legend, you can just see all the harmonic content of everything in the song and what pitch it's at. You just have to be able to distinguish fundamental pitches from other partials since the actual spectrum of a note is typically much broader than just its fundamental pitch. Given fundamentals tend to be louder than their partials it's not that hard, and you can always narrow down possible pitches by playing them back at that period in the song and seeing if they sound correct or not.
It works better for certain things than others, but at a minimum should help with basslines.

I like her voice and her choice in guitfiddles. It's gold and white but not fucking gaudy. She's got an SG like that too.
not even steve vai can make white and gold look good
Shut up FLO is a beautiful instrument.

Holy crap
I found a plastic bag in some forgotten drawer here at home with 3 packs of bass strings inside.
Totally forgot about that
Just because I'm paranoid that I'm wrong, this song is in the key of C Major right?

[editline]16th October 2014[/editline]
Fucking hell fuck media tags.
sounds like G is the actual tonal centre of the song
there is an F natural in there instead of an F# so you are right in thinking that diatonically all the notes in the chords belong to the C major scale but seeing as the tonal centre is really G it's probably more correct to call it G mixolydian
Thanks. I was apparently way off.

it's beautiful sure but no beauty is perfect
white and gold is still hella ugly
what exactly makes the Lzzyxplorer worth 2 grand?
