So I figured that around Christmas, I should be able to get this.
I have a Wilshire, and I just wanted to tell you that it's not the most ergonomic of guitars. They come with a fairly wide neck, D-shaped with a really flat radius.
I get fatigued so fast, bending is a bitch.
So I've recently been picking up a guitar to try and learn how to play it using Rocksmith. I'm steadily improving (I can't play a complete song yet but I can notice my overall technique is improving bit by bit.) But Rocksmith does lack a real sense of direction. So what would be some good things for a beginner to learn and get the hang of? I'm mainly just using the learn a song mode, occasionally dipping into the Guitarcade games but I'm not too fond of them, since it doesn't feel like constant practice, feels a bit too lax.
I understand that I should learn some scales? Although Rocksmith doesn't really tell you much about them so I'm asking you guys to help me out, maybe point me in the right direction. Thankyeye.
Does anyone have any experience with messing around with Telecaster's?
Basically I like to play Reggae/Ska (all waves) and I need to graduate from babbys first chinese stratocaster knockoff to a proper guitar.
I like the look of the Mexican standard but I don't want to end up cornered with a very specific guitar, so I might go for a modern player so I can mess around with the really wide range of pickups. Any thoughts, is it worth it?
I have the modern player Thinline and it is a fucking nice guitar for the money you pay. The only issue I have had with it was one of the bridge saddles popping a screw when I dropped it but I fixed that pretty easily. The fretwork and finish is probably nicer than a Mexican tele and the pickups sound really nice.

the plus version gets the Dave seal of approval even if he gets the name wrong

Thanks man, I'd been trying to find a decent review vid.
Can you get that classic clean skank sound/tone out of your thinline?
yeah the thinline gets a pretty decent tonal range just with the two p90s, really sort of vintage vibe to them
i think i have a recording somewhere of me playing in a rocksteady band last year
found it
[vid]http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/54323447/Esala%20Liyanage%20and%20his%20Goodtime%20Rocksteady%20Troopers.m4a[/vid]
it's a shitty phone recording and i don't really do any skanking but you can definitely hear the thing has reggae/ska pedigree during the solo (starts at 1:23)
hope this helps dude

I have the Jimmy Eat World signature guitar, but it's a bit different from a normal telecaster. It's a thinline deluxe, it has a kill switch at the top and has seymour duncan p90s. It sounds like a les paul, looks like a telecaster.
When I think of Ska and Reggae I think of the tone of a strat.
[editline]25th October 2014[/editline]
also my guitar was only like $800 from Andertons and it sounds great, Fender JA-90 if you want to look into it.

Thanks guys, I think i'm going to get the Modern Player plus, I've been watching some more vids and I reckon it can achieve the main sound/tone I want, while it's still got those humbuckers at the back for a bit of a heavier mess around now and again without having to buy another guitar.
Plus at around £350 it leaves me with a bit of extra cash to spend on other equipment. I want some time&space bending delay/reverb pedals eventually.

I made a little place for all my guitar stuff :v:
Recorded to 2" tape for the first time today, that was exciting.
My pedal arrived, Behringer SF300. Shit's loud and really good sounding, sounds better with bass tbh.
I recently got a car from a family member that I'm planning to sell for a few hundred quid. Depending on how much I get, I'm thinking about getting a couple of different things. I could get:
A Harley Benton 50's style P:

OR a Harley Benton Jazz:

And a Kramer Baretta Special:

or I could blow all the money on just one thing, a Fender Standard P in Candy Apple Red with a maple board and a replacement black pickguard.

The Fender is my dream instrument in my favourite colour. If I were to get it, I'd never sell it unless there was absolutely no choice and it would be my number one, go to bass. However, I've already got a split pickup P, and that's a fantastic playing instrument. I do want to get myself a better guitar and I know that the Kramer is good, as I've tried one in a shop when I was on holiday. And the 50's style P is something different that I could use, but considering I have my Classic Vibe, I don't know if it would ever see any use. A Jazz would be something different, and I've wanted one for a while now. But again, I don't think it would see more use than my current P.
I'd probably go for the Jazz and the Baretta myself.
speaking of basses
just ordered myself a fender, so stoked
It's actually a Roger Waters signature, but I bought it because of the black/black w/ maple fretboard, and it has SPB-3 pups which sound awesome
hotness

I wish I had a decent bass and acoustic guitar, I can't believe they can sound as bad as they do.
[editline]26th October 2014[/editline]
oh and I went to hang out with some friends at his mum's farm. his uncle joined us and hes been playing guitar for something like 35 years, he's really good and it's fun to play with him. he set up my guitar properly because i've never done that before, he lowered the action and now the strings sit just above the fret board just like when I first got it out of the box.
also I solved my string tree problem, he told me that on a telecaster you only need the string tree for the E and B strings and that a lot of guitarists who use telecasters have issues with their G string because of the string tree that holds it.
Just wanted to update on the band talk & guitar guy.
We talked today personally and all open with some coffee on a nice empty spot in the city and made some things clear (especially me), trust in each other is back and we all came mostly clear with things. I pretty much talked into all of their soul especially the guitar guy when I went indepth on how being in a band or group should never be an ego thing and that the band as a whole always comes first. I made points on how I manage to be like I am in the band and totally for the band by simply referring to my solo project "caynug". I mean caynug is my ego thing, the thing where nobody shall be able to tell me what to do and how to do it, this is my shit none of any other people's business musically and everybody should have something like that to vent off their passion and ego so they can work focused on the band as a whole without all the emotional ego yadda yadda. Chubsnug (the band) is a thing of everybody as one so I see every individual in the band as the whole thing and I want everybody to think as a whole because otherwise this goldmine crashes into the ground and burns down in the future.
Long talk short meaning, things will look better from now on and I hope it's possible to keep that way. Thanks for the read fellas.
In other good news: Our first ever real live show will already have about 300 hardcore interested fans of us and we make quite the big bucks on the first show with only the tickets already, I didnt even calculated the merch but we are at about over 2k€ (please keep that for yourself) I am goddamn trippin, this will be a great show with great people in march!
hell yeah
I didnt even calculated the merch but we are at about over 2k€
holy fuck
fucking awesome dude, you're an inspiration to us all here
fucking awesome dude, you're an inspiration to us all here
Are you for real? I never thought about this, this makes me completely speechless inside now.
[editline]27th October 2014[/editline]
Oh man thank you... I stopped eating and just stared at the screen, you did something to me there.
Dude, you really are inspiring. Your music is incredible, I'm not much for nu-metal, but I think your band can take it someplace. And to start off with good news and a lot of interest is also quite awesome.
I only had really thick strings when it came to changing my strings this time. They are too hard to play in standard E tuning so I tuned it down to A standard. Sounds cool
[editline]28th October 2014[/editline]
I think Ill buy some standard strings but leave the thickest string in for drop tunings.
Put some super slinky Ernie Ball strings on my Johnny Brook strat copy, sounds literally 10x better.
Next stop, decent practice amp.
I was thinking of buying some extra slinky or super slinky, I usually use regular slinky or heavy top skinny bottom. What strings were you using before changing?

Factory strings, so old they were practically black from dirt and rust :v:.
They've got a nice almost metallic slightly sound when you play single notes but they're quite warm sounding for chords. They only cost me about £6 from my local music shop.
I think the super slinky ones are just fine for most needs.
I mainly lurk this thread, but I thought I'd upload a picture of my set up

the telecaster has a black pickgaurd and SD hotrails in the bridge now
[editline]28th October 2014[/editline]
also, after four tours with no road case the orange logo/nameplates have fallen off the cab. I keep them in a drawer in case I ever want to sell it (probably not anytime soon) thinking about putting a tacky floral tablecloth over the grill
What amp is that on the top?
it's a generation 1 vox night train 15. I have a love hate relationship with it but it gets the job done lol

if you buy strings from a music store you're getting ripped off. I buy 3 sets for $20 from ebay rather than $15-$20 a set from a music store. Since they were factory strings they were probably 10-46. I've left strings on long enough to rust away, it's scary doing bends knowing that it could snap at any moment.
My pedal arrived, Behringer SF300. Shit's loud and really good sounding, sounds better with bass tbh.
I have one of these, you really have to play around with the settings to get a nice sound out of it. I use it on fuzz 1 setting with high treble, low bass for a nice filtered fuzz, or high bass, low treble on fuzz 2 for rhythm stuff. You really have to keep the volume knob on it down because it is loud as fuck, you would never need to turn it past 1/3rd. The boost setting is awful though, it ignores the volume knob and just uses the treble, bass and gain knob so the only sound you can get from it is really loud or really muddy.
If anyone was looking to get a nice fuzz pedal, avoid the Behringer SF300, it sounds okay and it cost like $40 but it isn't very versatile and it's a plastic stompbox.
Next stop, decent practice amp.
you should look at the roland cube, it comes in a bunch of different sizes and prices and has a great sound for the size of the thing. These are the amps you see guys playing on the streets.
I don't really have enough guitars (yet, mahaha :v:) to justify buying more than one pack at a time which will last me a few months, so I don't mind paying that little bit extra to support the local music shop.
I just took a look on ebay, and price wise it seems like you get buy 2, get 1 free which is pretty nifty to know anyway for the future.
I had a chat with one of the shop guys, and he recommended me either a decent busking cube like you said, or they've got a couple of second hand Line 6 Spider IV 30's, which are a bit bigger, but around the same price so i'm not sure.
Any of you know obscure sphinx? I don't understand my life right now, everyday something new kickass happens. Here's the story:
The music:

Obscure sphinx played in the same club I will play in march yesterday and the guy that organised that event was my friend janosch from sophies earthquake (also the is the guy that recorded our band for free in his studio) so we just went backstage before the show and got to know each other (keep in mind I only saw their live performance on youtube on the same day yesterday and was amazed by their creativity) what happened next is funny:
-I gave them a free copy of my newest cd
-we ate and talked together for 2 hours about everything
-I saw the chick without makeup and without stage clothing
-we nerdgasmed over meshuggah for 20 minutes
-the drummer of obscure sphinx was also playing for decapitated and bulzum
-they are all from poland so I could talk polish to them too
and on stage was the greatest part, they pulled out their 8 string schecters stringed with a .105 as thickest string tuned octave down to D and smiled at me because we talked about their guitars and what I use, the laughing moment was when I was claiming victory in drop z terretory because I was tuning half a tone lower on my album :v:
Fast forward the show host and I got the biggest on stage hug from the hot singer after the last song faded out and we proceeded to eat and talk about life and everything for 3 hours backstage. I love this shit :v:
