Bought it! 345 dollars for a legit Gibson SG Special. Made 6th of February, 2012 Nashville. [editline]3rd January 2015[/editline] the pickups can be slightly wiggled around if you use your hands, do I need to tighten something
Got a guitar from my dad, he never plays electric anymore and he's had it for like 30 years. It's an '82 Daion Power Mark X Full Album [t]http://i.imgur.com/Dv9zJ7g.jpg[/t]

[editline]3rd January 2015[/editline] the pickups can be slightly wiggled around if you use your hands, do I need to tighten something
wiggly pickups isn't a problem, the pickups are only held in with two screw + some springs for balance, so it won't affect your tone or anything.
you folks disagreeing on my post, i assume you disagree with me needing to tighten something?
The only real problem you could have with that is when the screws or springs are too short or something and the pickup falls into the cavity. That's an easy fix and unlikely to happen. Enjoy the Gibby. I really want an SG or two.

I could see inside the cavity if I lifted a bit but that's all. I'm enjoying it a lot! Just needs new strings ;) [editline]3rd January 2015[/editline] also biggest thing I noticed switing from a Fender Squier to a quality guitar is the abilty for it to hold the tone. Playing an open low e loudly/hard on my fender squier will cause the string to rattle and sound buzzy, while the Gibson just takes it. Just an example.
D'addario 10s or 9s are a good choice, I haven't tried Elixir strings but they're meant to last longer.
Tbh the baritone Elixir strings I tried don't last much longer than other strings I've used. They feel REALLY good to play though, even a few months down the road when they've rusted the same as other strings.

Can anyone give me any suggestions for an affordable guitar loaded with P90 pickups? Something <$500. Right now I'm leaning toward this Squier baritone jazzmaster just because it's baritone (which is pretty neat) and really affordable. I've also looked at this Fender mustang but I don't care for tremolo bridges and it's really at the end of my price range. I know there's the Gibson Melody Maker and a PRS guitar for around 600 bucks if I push my pricepoint up a bit, but getting that kind of money would be hard and with the Squier I have some leeway room for getting new pickups, pots, tuners, etc if there's something I don't like (which I probably will find something I don't like since it's Squier and cheap).

If you're able to route your guitar, that is. The squier Classic Vibe series is a solid line, although I'm not sure what a tele/strat would look like with soapbars.

ooh man that prestige roadcore looks sexy as hell

the new ESP models are a bit disappointing... i was hoping for some more variation on the evertune models but there's only 1 new lp with it??
did any of you guys see Matthew Bellamys new, cheaper signature guitar? It's made by Cort but Manson follows the production and everything except the body and neck is Manson. Same body form and neck as the Manson Matt Black. [editline]4th January 2015[/editline] http://www.cortguitars.com/MBC1/ [editline]4th January 2015[/editline] btw the purpose of the guitar that Matthew Bellamy got custom made (the Manson Matt Black) is to have the sound of a Les Paul, with the body of a Fender.

I dunno if it was announced at NAMM or not but apparently there's a remake of the old Power Wah Fuzz (the old chrome one) as a Cliff Burton signature, I'd get it if it wasn't so damn expensive (seriously like the new M2 Wah/Volume pedal is half the price of it).
Anyone use any other brand nickel wound strings like Ernie Ball rock and rolls that give a bright classic rock/bluesy tone?
rotosounds [editline]4th January 2015[/editline] earnie ball strings break constantly and start sounding dull in a week I don't get why people use them
My rock and rolls sound new for a month atleast before going dull but then again I wipe em clean and add dunlop string cleaner/conditioner on em
Anyone know a song that is good for leaning barre chords? I've postponed learning them for way too long now, started playing Exo-Politics by Muse which is pretty easy, but my barre chords definitely aren't perfect.
creep by radiohead is just 3 barre chords, it's good for practicing them because you have to pick all 6 strings while holding the chord shape.
Anyone know a song that is good for leaning barre chords? Steel That Sleeps The Eye, Foolsong, and EULA are pretty fun to play. You could also find a lot of normal acoustic songs that have a barre chords or two thrown in with open chords (Space Oddity comes to mind) edit: idk if Foolsong and EULA have tabs/chords. if they don't, i learned those songs by ear and i can give you those chords. [editline]4th January 2015[/editline]
check out rondo music
shit there's actually some pretty damn good cheap stuff on there. thanks
creep by radiohead is just 3 barre chords, it's good for practicing them because you have to pick all 6 strings while holding the chord shape.
it also teaches you the difference between major and minor in a very pretty way. i don't think i'd be playing guitar or writing songs now if it weren't for radiohead.
I'm returning this amp I got, the audio through the headphone jack is hardly audible even when I use a boost pedal with it, and it also gave me a shock (through the bridge on my bass, amazingly). Anyone know how good Amazon's return policies are?
and it also gave me a shock (through the bridge on my bass, amazingly)
crazy static buildup man, might be a ground problem or summat
crazy static buildup man, might be a ground problem or summat
I shouldn't think so, I've played through my old squier with no issues at all before
Anyone use any other brand nickel wound strings like Ernie Ball rock and rolls that give a bright classic rock/bluesy tone?
d'addario [editline]4th January 2015[/editline] ernie ball is like the only thing paul gilbert endorses that I don't agree with
I've always used D'addario on my accoustic (11s) and PRS/D'addario on my electric (11 low strings and 10s high strings), personally. Generally I tend to play heavier riffs more so than bluesy tones, but I've found it still has pretty good SRV/Slash tones as well when I feel like messing with something different that's not too different.
Coated D'adarrios are the bee's knees
