I buy and sell pretty rapidly, I've had as little as 3 and as many as 30 just in the past year
oh wow. i've only had like 5 guitars in my life, though i havent played for as long as you have. but i stuck with mine for a lot longer too, i'm only now selling an acoustic i've had for like 4 years, and i've had my electric for almost 2 now
[editline]7th July 2013[/editline]
not saying it like those are great achievements
i got anxiety when i had two 6 strings and a 7 string so i sold one of the 6 strings
i got anxiety when i had two 6 strings and a 7 string so i sold one of the 6 strings
I have 4 fender stratocasters and a luthier-built strat clone
I have an old 74 strat, a Kala u-bass, an old Soviet bass, a Traben bass and a custom Rick/Fender J hybrid bass. Haven't broken any strings ever!
Anyone know what guitar this is? Model and such info, I have nothing. The description says "old 1960's electric guitar" $40

Looks Korean. for $40 you can't really go wrong but don't expect anything stellar
[editline]8th July 2013[/editline]
I have a korean bass and other than the broken truss rod it all works just fine.
19 frets eugh
nothing wrong with 19 frets unless all you do is wankery
I have 4 fender stratocasters and a luthier-built strat clone
you crazy
nothing wrong with 19 frets unless all you do is wankery
you kiddin me bro
an electric guitar should have 22 frets minimum 24 max
an electric guitar should have 22 frets minimum 24 max
Yeah it feels weird to play even a 21 fret strat, granted I can just bend the strings to get those really high notes if I want them. But yeah 22 frets minimum for me.
[editline]8th July 2013[/editline]
Even though I would buy a 21 fret road worn strat or squier classic vibe which is also only 21 frets.
you don't lose anything having 19 frets over 24
you don't lose anything having 19 frets over 24
More frets is more metal
you don't lose anything having 19 frets over 24
Sometimes you just gotta take that 22nd or 24th fret and bend it till you break some eardrums.
but if you use the 22nd-24th frets people will think you play better
if you use the last 3 or 4 frets at all you're a knob
if you use the last 3 or 4 frets at all you're a knob
Sorry not everyone shares your view. <:3
22-24 frets makes the neck longer, making it easier to play notes around the 15-18 fret range comfortably. I barely even use all 22 frets on my guitar, I just like having them there.
I'm finally having to concede I need different monitors or headphones. My current Mackies have a really biased midrange and it's killing how guitars sound for me.

I am more of a headphones guy, I haven't dropped money on a good pair of headphones for a while but the last pair I owned were the Audio-Technica ATH-M50. If you wanna go with headphones I suggest trying them out. Probably the best headphones I have owned for recording in that price range before that I owned a cheaper pair of AKG phones (don't remember the model) but they sounded really scooped.
The AT headphones were an amazing difference, and they are built pretty tough too. I take care of my stuff but they were around my toddlers cousins and took quite a few drops and never broke, never got a short in the cable or anything. I need to get more into monitors though, only reason I haven't got any is because I live in an apartment and my downstairs neighbor keeps her fat fucking ear pressed against the ceiling.

But I don't play metal.

going from 24 frets to 20 on a bass really fucked with my left hand, it screwed up my perception of positioning. I'd play my P-bass and play the 7th fret and if I went to play my Kramer I'd hit the 9th because that's roughly in the same position when I play it.
I fucking love my P-bass as well. Fucking brilliant bit of kit. Gonna get some Steve Harris pickups in it and some new strings soon (still playing the stock Fender strings on it, they're not bad).

I never really had that problem, the only reason I demand AT LEAST 21 frets is because I have played vintage guitars with 20 frets and it kind of feels weird. On acoustic guitars I could care less because those frets aren't usually accessible anyways unless you have a good cutaway but even then I never really use them.
24 frets is really a luxury and the thing I like is you can mirror anything on both ends of the fretboard without having to bend which isn't the easiest thing to do on those really small higher frets. But like I said my explorer has 22 frets and I haven't really had a problem running out of frets.

This guitar is an early 60's model by Kawai whose name isn't known by the internet. It is not incredibly rare though and they're like many of the 60's Japanese guitars, they're very hit or miss. Most of them are what you'd call 'slide guitars' simply because the action is so ridiculous that slide is all they're useful for. If the neck angle is okay though you can get a decent player out of it, but it will take some work. For $40 + the labor to get it back in playing condition, I'd say it's worth it. It's missing some parts obviously.
Here's a video and sound demo of it

I don't think that has to do with the number of frets, I think that's because of the location of the neck joint and bridge being different. Like how Les Pauls and SGs have the same scale length and the same 22 frets, but the neck joins the body of an SG at the 22nd fret so the bridge is much farther forward on an SG, which makes it seem like the neck is longer when it is in fact in a different position.
So yeah if you hold the two guitars the same way, your hands will be in a different position.
