oh man that was like the 5th song I learned
clearly you are above mortal levels of hardcore
but am i above celestial levels of hardcore
otherwise i am not real super sand
I've been learning guitar for about a week now by myself.
What should I really start off with?
also I have an acoustic.
She Hates Me by Puddle of Mudd is fun and easy
one of my favorite songs to jam to is Honey Bucket
its just so fucking fun to play
Disintegrator or Thirty Three by The Ghost Inside are pretty fun
Actually most of TGIs stuff is pretty fun
Am I allowed to talk about basses in here too?
cause I have some bass questions
ayup, if it's a guitar you can talk about it
Okay. Well, I'm considering getting a new bass (not for sure and I'm willing to wait). I currently play a Yamaha rbx774, I like it a lot but I'm looking for something with some more growl or bite to it and also something that doesn't have my current bass's 35" scale (I have small hands).
Ric4001/3 is my ideal bass, but that pricetag isn't a wise investment at this point in my life. I've looked around a whole lot and ultimately I'll probably stick to my current bass, but I was just wondering if Fp had any input, since this forum is usually full of pretty knowledgeable people.

The good old days of using my friend's fuzz pedal to play the bass intro

All bass problems can be solved by getting a Fender/Squier Precision or Jazz. Since the Squier Affinity line has seen a massive improvement, I would suggest getting one of the new Precisions with the Jazz pickup in the bridge. No matter what you play, it would fit in sonically.
Rickenbackers are a real love hate instrument. They have a very unique feel to them when playing apparently, and I would never risk the amount of money you have to put down on one of those. I have to admit though, they do look pretty cool.
A friend of mine wants to get back into Bass, his old bass is a first act 4-string with 20 or 21 frets so his standard of quality is very low. He wants a 5-string if he can get one, which would be nice because I play guitar in Drop B so we could jam easily.
He's a big guy (read: 350lbs) with short arms, what would be a good pick for him? Used is fine, we'd be in the dakota/scott section of the Minneapolis MN craigslist if you wouldn't mind looking for deals there, I don't know much about bass.
I took a look on that specific Craigslist and there was only 1 five string that I saw and it was an American Fender at about $1200. Since you're in America, you could easily get an SX. They're supposed to be really good quality for the price point they're at, good build quality and fit and finish, and they have a great returns policy.

Yeah, I really like P basses. I've seen a few P's with J necks which are always wonderful to play.
Ricks are awesome, I love the way they play and sound since I was raised on Yes, but there are so many basses that do the job almost as well for a fraction of the price.

I played a pre-owned Squier J 5-string the last time I was at my guitar store. It was pretty cheap and it felt great. It was also beautiful as well, with a natural finish that had one section that looked like birdseye.
If you can find one of those, give it a look. Never met someone who was uncomfortable playing a Jazz.
first riff i ever learned was come as you are. then i think it was stay together for the kids by blink

I played the Squier version of that in a shop once, assuming all the specs are the same you wouldn't be disappointed. Pretty, too.
Hopefully I'm going to buy a warmoth body this next week.
I'm thinking some kind of red body, like candy red. Along with my rosewood/maple neck. White/black pickguard, and black lipstick pickups.
mmm yeah I need to get up in the warmoths too
[editline]14th July 2013[/editline]
I can spend days fiddling with their body builder thing
it annoys me that they haven't implemented the body preview into the basses yet. still, making guitars on there is still awesome

They do a lot of stuff that I like the look of ('51 P bass, P/J bass in white/black guard/maple board, J in Candy Apple Red/black guard/maple board), but living in the UK it'd mean paying stupidly high prices for postage and paying import tax I believe.
yeah
$896.52 worth of awesome just for a body
The only thing I wish Warmoth did was give you an option to have stuff painted with nitro lacquer.
We must keep the thread alive! So what have you guys been up to, certainly the life of a musician is an interesting one.

My uncle is here for a few weeks to be around family for his birthday, having tons of fun jamming with him. Also my band is getting back together, I really needed that! We have a gig later this month, hope it goes well!
had people over to play yesterday, went great
I think we almost wrote a song
learned a few songs by children of bodom i'll probably go buy some beer and learn some more or some scales but cob is more fun and more challenge to play, got my home for myself since my parents aint here tonight so I use my 100 watts tube amp and my cube in stereo. never loud enough!
My search for a bassist who can play straight blues progressions, is going poorly...
I think I may have one, but the past two people who tried out could play. They could only play one bass line in multiple spots on the neck for different keys. I may have a solid bass player though, who plays in the orchestra at some high school. Good thing my drummer is still in school, haha.
And to close the night, I had about an hour long facebook chat with my old bassist who had to move to college station. We got to saying how much we'll miss playing together all the time. It brought tears to my eyes.
Just made a purchase that I hope I won't regret.
Talkbass.com classifieds are usually a great place to go, picked up this guy

Vintage Yamaha bb1200s. Got active and passive, it's also neck through. Every review I've read has said this thing is amazing, and I like necks of that width/shape and Yamahas are generally very reliable.
If you guys want, I can take more pics and maybe a recording once the package gets here.
you won't regret it, I got a buddy with one of those and since playing it am constantly considering getting one for myself.
