like any of us are even genuine musicians
I made 20 bucks with my solo artist music, I am professional musician. In other news, my band will hit a studio for free end of august  big big angry groovy sound incoming including a black 30 year old rapper, me doing pussy vox + slap bass and angry metal music. Speaking of studio work. My band is still waiting on getting our tracks back from mixing and mastering, almost 2 months on from recording. I've been trying to contact the guy but I'm getting no response. We were supposed to have it printed by now so that we could give a signed copy to the raffle that the guy is doing later this month with a couple of others. We're supposed to be launching the EP next month but it's getting a bit sketchy now.
Those guitars up there remind me of dingwall basses. They still make 'em, so they must be selling, but I can't imagine how they'd be comfortable to play.

Yeah it does look crazy but apparently, at least according to andy mckee, it's more ergonomic because of the way your hand rests on the fretboard and you don't really feel or notice the fanned frets you just get better intonation. Seems like a fantastic idea and I don't know why it hasn't been more widely adopted.
cause nobody's put any work into figuring out how to mass produce them
Are these completely terrible or is it worth it? http://albany.craigslist.org/msg/3888489379.html
Are these completely terrible or is it worth it? http://albany.craigslist.org/msg/3888489379.html
Uh, yeah, I wouldn't do that. IMO, on the new guitar market, nothing under $300 is worth spending money on. Get something that is at least a mainstream name brand, and if you're a newbie, buy used instead of new. For a first time setup, I would budget at least $500 for the guitar and amp, with a bias toward the guitar. Sooner or later, you'll want a better and more powerful amp, so focus on a guitar that plays well.
If you're gonna go cheap, look for some Japanese-made stuff. A lot of it is miles ahead of their American-made counterparts, and the price is usually on par with Korean gear
I've heard some of the new Squiers are actually quite good. Epiphone guitars aren't bad either, though the factory setup is probably going to suck. Don't worry about your amp, you want a guitar that isn't a chore to play more than you want siqq tonez brah. I'm sure you can find a Line6 Spider 3 or 4 for <$50 used, they're not that bad. I can barely play anything and I find myself frequenting this thread.

Squier have recently reached a level of quality that is absolutely unheard of for the price you're paying. Any Squier with a gold or silver label (or anything that isn't solid black lettering) will be a fantastic playing premium instrument that you would have surely paid double for just ten or twenty years ago. Epiphone is fine too, they make great stuff. But Squier is ridiculous now, tons of different aesthetic, pickups, and finish options, quality hardware, satin necks like the mexican and american Fenders, I mean they're just really great now. Also I'm pretty sure the different scales for each string comes from harps and pianos, stuff like that. We all have it to some extent, I'm pretty sure all of us probably have compensated bridges where the length of each string is marginally different. But that kind of extreme fanning seems to be the way to go, the scale lengths are what they actually should be and all of the frets are compensated also, so it seems to be the way forward. I'm just not a huge fan of the designs of most of the guitars that use that type of fretboard.

The reason for multiple scale lengths is about resonance and tension, intonation is unaffected.
It has nothing to do with intonation and anyone who tells you it does had no idea what they're talking about.
I think you're probably right, proper intonation should be possible with or without the fanned frets, but doesn't the longer scale lengths on the bass side at least make it easier to achieve?
nope. It's 100% tone. Keeps high and low strings from sounding too tight or floppy.
Hi thread, I'm very new to guitar and need help I'm following the tabs for a song and the tone sounds right but the song version sounds so much heavier/dirtier, how would I get this sound? at 0:55 When I try it it sounds too clean. I've twiddled all the nobs and changed all the dials but it still sounds too clean. Please help a newbie out
Looking at those fanned fret pics above made me realize how much I dislike most exotic wood finishes. To me it makes the instrument look like some wall-hanger relic instead of something meant to actually be played.
Maybe the second one. The first one looks kinda sweet. Speaking of Dingwall's... [t]http://i.imgur.com/1d3dF3E.jpg[/t]

Like anything with a heavy grain pattern, the wood isn't as strong (can break along grain runout or along spalting - this is why we use quartersawn wood for necks instead of slab cuts) and the tone isn't as nice, but it looks amazing and with electric guitars you can kind of make up for the tone with a really good quality pickup (we use quilted and flamed maple tops only for looks, a top without an intense grain pattern would ideally be stronger and sound nicer). Spalting also makes the wood lighter I believe. That particular line is called Novax Naturals and they're all supposed to be unique, but he also makes more traditional guitars. I like it in some cases and I think it doesn't look all that great in others.

I like regular shapes, nothing too out there. For me I prefer Hufschmid, the shapes are more familiar and down to earth. I just like how they look much better.
Yes concert tonight. 3 full albums. Steve Howe man.
Yes concert tonight. 3 full albums. Steve Howe man.
Grew up on Yes. Chris Squire is the man, man! [t]http://i.imgur.com/1d3dF3E.jpg[/t]
That one looks pretty cool. [editline]18th July 2013[/editline] Yes actually played free in my hometown on 4th of July 2 years ago, along with Peter Frampton. An excellent day for every guitarist in Cinci.
I keep trying to find a good guitar. What do you guys think of this? Fender Stratocaster, custom parts, $130. I like how it looks. http://albany.craigslist.org/msg/3877627287.html
Anyone know where I can get good guitar electronics for cheap? Everything except the pickups.
Anyone know where I can get good guitar electronics for cheap? Everything except the pickups.
http://www.mojotone.com/guitar-parts/Electronic-Parts-and-Wire-for-Guitars [editline]19th July 2013[/editline] In other news I got to play a 1960 Fender strat today, I wish I could have taken pictures but the guy that owns it is one of the "don't take pictures" kind of guy. But just imagine the most beautiful tobacco burst strat with some wear on the forearm cut and a few chips taken out of the paint on the edges. But the most important thing is WOW the thing played like a dream. Small frets aside the action wasn't all that bad and the electronics were all original and working. The pickups sounded amazing. The sound was straight out of the 60's, and the best part was I was playing through a Fender twin reverb from the 60's as well. It is crazy how you can feel the particular wear on the back of the neck, you can tell it probably fits someones hand perfectly. What a great experience.
I was looking through my guitar bag (I don't really play guitar that much, I look at tabs every once in a while and learn a song riff) and I found a whammy bar. so now my renditions of simple rock songs will now be with whams.

Hopefully it actually works and it's not a scam.. I'm buying it sunday.

Last thing, where are some good cheap bodies that would be painted? I know warmoth has them, I could wait another paycheck and get that.. but temptation...

All the ones I've ordered have been real nice with fairly figured grain.
