Anyone got any advice on how to make an acoustic nicer to play? I'm not sure how to describe it, it's just really hard work to play. If i go round to a friends i'll have no problem doodling about and fretting bar chords etc, but on mine it's all so arduous, hard to push down, harder to hold, and it has quite a tinny sound.
acoustic on the whole is less flexible than playing electric, you just get used to it after a while your guitar/strings could just be really shitty too.

They should ideally be as similar as possible. My suspicion is that the action at your nut is set way too high to start with and it probably only gets higher towards the 12th fret. How to fix the nut being cut too high? file/reshape it, bring the string slots or the whole nut lower. If the action at the nut is fine though and it's just the action on up the fretboard that is bad, you should be able to adjust either the truss rod or the height of the bridge.
Low action is best action
your strings should be a whole foot off the fingerboard
your strings should be a whole foot off the fingerboard
My cousin actually broke his guitar, and had 1 inch between the strings and the board.
Tune guitar down to F with 60 strings and low action then hit da string "boooowwwwwzzzzzzz" set up action higher "bmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" yes my lords today you learned djent™. [editline]5th August 2013[/editline] don't ever try to boowwz because it IS addicting for a few minutes.
Low action is best action
no buzz action is the best action
as low as possible without buzz is best action this is usually known as a quarter under the string at the 12th fret on a guitar and a quarter and a nickel under the string at the 12th fret on a bass
oh, and just so you guys know, Iron Maiden live in the London O2 Arena was fucking incredible, and it was well worth the very expensive, 800 mile trip. I got 2 tour shirts, one being the event shirt. I'll take a picture of both once they're washed (holy fuck did they both get sweaty).
you don't pick hard enough if that's high enough action for no buzz
That's how I usually set up my guitars and I pick like an idiot.
I don't mind a little fret buzz, I only pick really hard when I palm mute because metal and yeah
I don't mind a little fret buzz, I only pick really hard when I palm mute because metal and yeah
I use a relatively low gain tone most of the time so for me I pick hard when I need a little more distortion, I use pick dynamics a lot.
I barely use any gain at all, just a metric fuckton of compression
I barely use any gain at all, just a metric fuckton of compression
I only like my compression in clean tones or heavy gain lead tones.
it sounds clean, gain from a jazz chorus isn't exactly dirty
it sounds clean, gain from a jazz chorus isn't exactly dirty
Not one bit, you know I had the chance to buy a brand new (but cosmetically damaged) JC-120 about 2 years ago for like $500, I am still kicking myself in the ass over not buying it... It looked like it took a good drop down some stairs a couple times but it was still structurally sound and worked fine.
yeah they're built pretty good, I've never seen one take enough abuse to go bad mine was $700 used though so for that price they better be built well
yeah they're built pretty good, I've never seen one take enough abuse to go bad mine was $700 used though so for that price they better be built well
Yeah Roland amps are built like a brick shit house, my cousins Roland cube had been rolling around in the back of his van back and forth to gigs for years now and it still works fine.
I use a relatively low gain tone most of the time so for me I pick hard when I need a little more distortion, I use pick dynamics a lot.
My amp's gain sits between 5 and 6 o'clock, with a TS as a boost at about 3 on the level, 10 tone and 0 gain. It's enough to sound gnarly with my guitar's volume at 9-10, I back off the volume if i need a cleaner sound and rarely use the other gain channel or clean channel. I should get a footswitch
yeah since I'm not jeff beck I always rely on channel switching fuck the volume knob
Wow so someone on the sevenstring.org forums wrote me a theme song because he likes me that much so I wrote him a track too, a doom metal lovesong with growling and clean vocals! Caynug - Unjustly Labeled: and this is his lovesong to me that started all this: Unjustly Labeled - Caynug Theme Song:
sometimes when i play guitar i get depressed and lose all urge to play guitar regardless of how happy i was earlier
I hate when my band jams and this happens: "woa cool man that sounded great, let's build up on this idea" we play and we play until I stop playing and say "hold on hold on... isn't that this one korn song?" "ahhh fuck!"
just like the one time a friend and I accidentally wrote sweet home alabama.
Any exercises to help strengthen your picking hand?
Any exercises to help strengthen your picking hand?
Wank regularly.
can you get a fuzz factory and a wah pedal... in one? not looking for a new amp just looking for a pedal with built in adjustable fuzz and wah
Any exercises to help strengthen your picking hand?
practice different picking patterns on chords, linear and non-linear ones.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/5tIQWVn.jpg[/t] This is what happens when I have a glass of beer and a burst of inspiration and slight adrenaline. I magic'd myself a pickup :v: it works rather well! [editline]7th August 2013[/editline] now if only i could play
