So my band is in the studio for the whole next week to record the EP and I just got an gut infection and I am getting emotionally sick. Stress, loneliness, depression, gut pain, stomach pain, fever alike pain all hit me at once since yesterday, great... I won't survive next week.
Our singer/guitarist recorded with a sore shoulder and the other had a lung disease (we didn't know that at the time, it was thought to be an infection at the time). We thought we had bad luck...
There was a funny story behind our singer's shoulder injury though. I shit you not this is what he told us.
He slipped down the stairs in his house, because he was wearing a different brand of socks to what he normally did, and the newer ones had a higher polyester content.
congratulations dude you got a pretty nice starter guitar there
Ha, thanks! Excellent! It feels nice too, got to get used to an electric though, neck is so much smaller than an acoustic.
Should it need it, there's always the option to mod the shit out of almost anything on that guitar. Nut, tuners, pickups, tailpiece and bridge, pots, jack, etc etc.
What strings came with it as spares?
I bought it used so it came with 2 half used packs of strings. I'm going to go buy proper ones in a few hours.
Well that's a pain in the ass. Still, it gives you the opportunity to get some decent strings. If you don't want to change them very often, get Elixirs. They cost a bit more but you don't have to buy strings until one breaks.
Otherwise, I'd suggest D'Addario, Fender (made by D'Addario) or Ernie Ball (though these are the least recommended by myself and probably others).

I have a ernie ball full nickel set on my ibanez, they sound pretty good. But I am still a D'Addario guy.
I did get Elixirs! The owner of the shop I went to suggested them. I also bought a tuning machine, which helps.
I restrung the guitar myself (first time), cleaned it, and its perfect!
Replaced the 9-46 strings the guitar shop put on with a set of 11-58s, holy shit DAT CHUNK

Use that feeling man. Focus it and express it musically.
I stretched my new strings and they're still going out of tune so quickly, got to give the time to stretch I suppose.

If it continues make sure your strings aren't binding in the nut, best to lubricate it with some pencil graphite to keep the contact points with the strings slick.
i'm continuing to stretch the strings, they're so out of tune now jesus
Anyone do bass tapping? I can't seem to get it down. Might have to lower my action.
low action helps but low tension is the quickest way to get good at bass tapping
I've got a problem with my cheap as fuck bass amp, basicly went to school with it and had a jam with my buddies, the next day I plug it in my house theres humming ( I've checked everything, its a problem with the amp) and then there's this sound https://soundcloud.com/jonn-lim/bass-amp-problem bunch of funky sounds coming out when i play. With the exchange rate now the amp costed me about $88, Is it worth it to try and fix this or should I just go ahead and buy a better amp?

check the connections, sounds like a loose ground wire
check the connections, sounds like a loose ground wire
Does that also explain why the sound coming out sounds fucked up?
As a complete beginner at this thing I only manage to get that brass thing with the blue tape and red wires off and now I'm completely stumped. Maybe I should get a new amp?

I'm thinking of getting a fretless bass, what are some good, not too expensive options?
I'm thinking of getting a fretless bass, what are some good, not too expensive options?
If you are after cheap, I think Squier has a Jaco Pastorius-ish fretless J-bass that they do for less than $500 AUD. It might be discontinued now, I don't know.
On the more expensive side you could go for something like a Maton JB4. It is probably the best bass ever made in Australia. My dad picked one up second hand in the 90s when they were out of fashion and only payed $900 for it but right now the (possibly inferior?) reissues are selling for twice that. Maton also had other fretless models back in the day like the Wildcat which are also good. You can still find a lot of vintage Matons in second hand shops and also occasionally (if you are very lucky) garage sales so have a look around.
guitar related?
I got bored and made a diddley bow, it's so fucking fun to play

Squier Deluxe Fretless is what you're on about. I tried a fretted 5 string version ages ago and it seemed pretty decent.
Not my picture.

Squier has upped their game as well and there's new Vintage Modified fretless Jazz and P basses.
Fuck playing guitars, from now on I only use my mouth for all instruments:

So I thought it was lost or stolen and sold by my junkie cousin but it turns out it still exists. And what is that? Probably the best playing Squier I have played. When I was up in Alaska my grandfather felt bad because I didn't have a my guitar up there so he ran over to the local pawnshop in Kenai and picked up a strat. It is this 90's dark green Squier strat with a white pickguard that cost him about $140.
I set it up and ended up playing it for hours. For some reason this Squier felt amazing to me and sounded amazing, not sure if it has stock pickups. Anyways when I moved back to Washington he was gonna ship it to me but before that happened he lost track of it and we just assumed my piece of shit cousin stole it.
Well my Father took a trip up there to visit and while they were there they went through the bar in the basement and found the thing sitting under some boxes. To make the story shorter my Grandfather gave it to my father and now it is back here in Washington. Gonna be going over to my Fathers house this Saturday to set it up chances are I am going to buy it from him in the near future. I can't wait to play it again because I was crushed when we thought we lost it. Sounds funny praising a Squier so much but it is a pretty special guitar, it doesn't play like any other Squier I have touched. I never did get the chance to dig into it and see what was going on so I am gonna do that as well.
i'm continuing to stretch the strings, they're so out of tune now jesus
Whenever I change strings I just leave the guitar for a day after putting them in tune and playing for 10-15 mins and they'll be fine.

i'm mostly a tele player but i've always wanted that hollowbody tone, had my doubts about this one at first but it's a great guitar, the pickups sound pretty good and the coil tap definitely comes in handy
the strings are pretty shit and i'll probably replace them with d'addarios but overall 8/10 it's ok

I always love hearing hidden gem guitar stories.
I always love hearing hidden gem guitar stories.
Yeah me too, it's always the guitars you don't expect to be good that surprise you.
My dad came home once with some off brand electric guitar that he bought at a garage sale. I set it up and cleaned it, replaced its strings. It played really well and sounded nice, but we ended up reselling it on craigslist to make some money. I regret doing that.

out of all the guitars I own my favorite is a $50 chunk of plywood with a built in amplifier that doesn't work. I picked it up as a joke and it just felt right when I did. nice chunky baseball bat neck, 24.75 inch scale. It had been sitting in that shop for about 3 years before I picked it up.
it was a Synsonics 7021. Some other Synsonics models (specifically the Synsonics Terminator model) show up on Ebay from time to time and I've been considering picking up another one
