I'm pretty sure the break isn't because of the tuning post. It happens between it and the nut. Also while taking the strings off the D string broke again, this time on the bridge. This guitar is seriously fucked and I don't know what to do.
Is your nut cut properly? My idea is the strings are getting caught in the nut and when the tuning machine tries to pull them further, they snap right there at the midpoint between the nut and the tuner. Smooth out your nut by running a wound string through it, and smooth out the tuning post and the bridge saddles in the same way, and apply a bit of graphite to the nut before you string. There's something seriously wrong with the setup of your guitar because it simply should not operate in this way. If you don't feel comfortable hacking away at your nut and filing stuff yourself, take it to a luthier, he'll sort it out in no time for a small setup fee. Just take it in and ask to have it properly set up and he'll diagnose whatever problems he encounters while doing so.

Usually when I gig i'll have a piece of ducktape on the microphone stand if it's hour+ so I can grab another pic (and never lose them!)
I am almost the same way and I hate when the tip get rounded because then the picks don't sound as bright. I thought about going to Clayton triangle picks so when I round out the tip I can just rotate the pick and have a fresh surface. Not only that you can just pick them up and play no matter the orientation.

I probably should go ahead and put new strings on my guitar, too, since it'll help a little... but meh... I've found Clayton's teardrops are perfect for me at .8 giving me a balance of bright sound, a few weeks of not getting rounded down, and not too thick that they feel awkward and bulky in my hand.
oh god i really don't know what to learn, for some reason I just haven't found anything right that I really like. There's some lazy cloud hovering over me.

Thin sharkfins are the only kind of picks I can bring myself to use
I like using my fingers too.
If you're replying to me, I haven't really bothered learning how to play with my fingers, I just think every other kind of pick feels like like shit. :v:
I like using my fingers too.

Fucking went to my store and bought 4 brand-new picks today and put them in my shirt pocket. Realized when I got home I had a perfect pen-sized hole in the bottom of the pocket and now I have no picks... fucking $1 wasted... :(
I pick like a dumbass sometimes, my picks usually end up looking like this after a day... Could be my picking technique but I don't break strings that often and picks last a surprisingly long time for me. Even when they look like that I just give it a couple strokes on some carpet to reform and smooth the tip and it works just fine.
same thing happens to my picks but not nearly as bad

just picked this bad boy up, i'm in love [t]http://i5.minus.com/jr4Bbm60aZtfQ.jpg[/t]
I was going to buy an Egnater Rebel today but the guy who I was buying it from backed out. So I went to my local music shop and found out they just got a used Vox Night Train. I plugged it in and jammed out for a bit and now I'm the proud owner of a little tone monster! I'm pretty stoked on it. It sounds better and is much lighter/easier to work with than my Valveking
Slapped my first pair of Curt Mangan strings on the other day and I love them. Excellent tone and excellent feeling. 10/10, would buy again. Do recommend. http://www.curtmangan.com/
For some reason since buying my electric I haven't been able to learn anything, it's frustrating.
just picked this bad boy up, i'm in love [t]http://i5.minus.com/jr4Bbm60aZtfQ.jpg[/t]
Glad to see I am not the only one using a bright red guitar strap.
holy shit I just plugged my guitar into a mixer board this is just the same and even better than my cheap amp, it has more controls and even effects :v: and I can manually overdrive.
Glad to see I am not the only one using a bright red guitar strap.
Hahah, only way to do it
So I picked up a guitar from work since it was in too bad condition to well, its a Limited Edition Epiphone Les Paul in Green Flame. It makes nothing but buzzing if I plug it into my amp, but the buzzing changes if I make contact with the pickups, anyone know if it could be an issue with the wiring on the pickups or the pots? Aside from fixing the wiring I need to replace the strings, tuning pegs and get a new switch (the original switch is still inside but it's missing the cap) along with fixing general scuffs and such. I'm thinking of fixing it up and selling it on, can anyone ballpark estimate how much I could get off this thing? It doesn't seem to be a fake. Here's a couple photos: [T]http://i.cubeupload.com/BSECzT.jpg[/t] [T]http://i.cubeupload.com/KDRlkO.jpg[/t] [T]http://i.cubeupload.com/5CmZbv.jpg[/t] [T]http://i.cubeupload.com/PWzpDZ.jpg[/t]
She's a beaut
So holy shit, I just got the chance to play a James Trussart strat today, jesus I know what I am adding to my bucket list. http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/electric/james-trussart/james-trussart-steel-o-matic-antique-silver-holey/ Looked pretty much like that but the neck was what I believe to be mahogany with that dirty silver maple looking fretboard and he replaced the pickups with a set of aged slow hand pickups by Bare Knuckle. It was damn beautiful, I hope he brings it back so I can get some pictures of it. Such amazing craftsmanship, I couldn't find a flaw and the pictures really do it no justice. If I ever have some money laying around I know what I am saving up for.
Glad to see I am not the only one using a bright red guitar strap.
I use a blood-red strap as well, so no, you're not the only one.
I use a blood-red strap as well, so no, you're not the only one.
I actually need to get a new one, my red strap is stained with blood (ironic I know) and Guinness extra stout.
Nothing like a good Irish celebration?
Nothing like a good Irish celebration?
Well ya know...
I palm mute so hard I had to lower my neck pup so the strings don't touch it
had to pull a vai and tape over the neck bobbin [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8598216/IMG_20130831_170622.jpg[/t] [editline]31st August 2013[/editline] also bright red strap [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8598216/IMG_20130831_170632.jpg[/t]
holy shit I just plugged my guitar into a mixer board this is just the same and even better than my cheap amp, it has more controls and even effects :v: and I can manually overdrive.
This is extremely inadvisable. Overdriving through a mixer is going to give you raw clipping as distortion which is hell on most types of speaker coil. Unless you can throw a lowpass and phaser/comb sweep on it afterwards it won't be safe for generic consumer speakers.

But are there any virtual amps I could use with the mixer? It's a Behringer X1204
I've looked down at my guitar when playing cauz I had a hard time doing a pinch harmonic on the 12 fret and vibrato, the 11,12,13 and 14 frets top under the DGB strings is flat and shiny like new metal. guess it's time for a fret level, is it hard to do at home or should I send it in at a shop? might also be the B string that keeps getting caught at the 12th but the strings are only 2-3 weeks old
So I got reunited with that Squier strat last night that I was talking about a couple pages back. I did a little bit of research about it and all I can come up with is it is a made in Indonesia british racing green affinity strat from 2001. Did a quick setup on it, not much needed to be done though, the treble side was a little high but after I got it playing good it was like seeing an old friend. I wish I could have gotten some video to really show how good this strat sounded but I didn't bring my camera. Only picture I have of it is one that somebody at the party took. But to give you a better idea it pretty much looks like this. I know now that I really want to buy it, I don't even think the pickups need to be replaced and I am wondering if they are even stock to the guitar because they scream. Never did get a chance to take the pickguard off so I don't know about those yet.
