do it! they sound fantastic and they look good too. who gives a fuck what a few guitar aficionados think.
I played the 50's road worn in black that they had at the GC down here, it's a great strat. Very fun to play and it sounded great. I like that they also offer the Road Worn Player strat with it's modern specs for the people who fancy a flatter fretboard and bigger frets. [editline]24th September 2013[/editline]
Personally I see the less expensive relic models as a great way to get a nitro finished fender without paying for a nitro gloss finish. it'd be cool if they did like gibson and just offer more guitars in a satin nitro without distressing it but I think the relic process allows them to do a lower quality finish where the imperfections aren't noticed because the finish has whole chunks missing. it would be nice if they would keep the road worn so you can have entry level nitro guitars, but also introduce more satin nitro guitars that are just a step higher in price without relicing, and the gloss nitro guitars obviously remain the high mark.
Yeah that is kind of my thoughts on relic'd guitars, I am just not a big fan of poly guitars. I love poly for newer guitars like Schecter, ESP, etc... But I just think that vintage designs should have the option .
I don't have a problem with poly. I don't think paint impacts tone
I don't have a problem with poly. I don't think paint impacts tone
I don't really think it does either, but I hate the feeling of poly. It feels like a cheap toy.
Speaking of road worn guitars, the Road worn player HSS strat is the stupid deal of the day for $499 on musicians friend. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid/?icid=200510 Mother fucker what timing for that to happen when I don't have money...
I got a guitar strap! oh god it feels amazing to play standing [editline]25th September 2013[/editline] even playing upside down it feels great
artificially relic'd guitars are stupid I think kinda like running around with fake olympic medals telling people you actually competed in the events
This is interesting. Thomann seem to be doing some good things with their Harley Benton shit. I admit that the name is terrible and I am wary of the products under that name after my first bass being so crap, but this seems like it would be worth the risk to me. £90 delivered to my door, for a sunburst, '51 style P-bass with a maple board and Wilkinson hardware. So I was looking for a new amp and I found the Peavey Vypyr. Pretty good price and a good amount of customization anyone have experience with these?
don't do it, look on ebay for deals on used equipment
Oh god I'm not thinking of buying it new, I have next to no money I'm just asking how it is
if you can find one for under $70 or so I guess that's not a bad deal. it's not bad but if you look on ebay for older things you can usually find a great deal. check out old sovtek stuff if you want a badass amp for next to no money [editline]26th September 2013[/editline] actually apparently sovtek mig prices are through the roof for some reason. last time I looked they were going for $120 or so, now they're going for $1000+ I should have hopped on that bandwagon early
I have no experience with buying new equipment, I've been using the same starter gear for years. I've tried a Marshall amp at guitar center and they sound great, but the price was at around 500$ [editline]26th September 2013[/editline] Some of the lesser priced Marshall amps are apparently reporting loss of sound because the company outsourced their production.
artificially relic'd guitars are stupid I think kinda like running around with fake olympic medals telling people you actually competed in the events
That's how I used to think before I realized you don't need to take your guitar around the world on tour to make it look all beat up, I mean I move my guitar around but it has never been on a tour of any kind. My guitar looks the way it does because I don't care for it like it is a baby, I don't cringe when I bash it into something or get a scratch on it. That is one of the main reason I liked guitars that look worn. Whether it be natural or artificial, I just don't have to be careful of smacking it into something. And I would never want a beat up guitar that is painted in poly, it just doesn't look good. That's one of the reason I repainted my guitar with lacquer in the first place.
i'm thoroughly set on believing that i don't think vintage amps are the way to go. i've brought my amp in three times to be serviced, and it worked fine at my house. but any time i take it to a show an hour+ out, when i get back home there's always something wrong with it. I think for my next big purchase I'm going to go to my local guitar shop and try out their vintage and reissue ones. I've heard good things about the reissues almost never breaking down. Also, i forgot to tell y'all i went and saw stephen stills and kenny wayne shepherd at ACL live last saturday. some guy came in to my computer store and offered my coworker a ticket, he declined and told him that i play guitar and would probably rather go. his comp was busted and i think he did lighting or some kind of equipment managing. anyway, he said he'd leave it for me at willcall. i got there. he left me a fucking after party pass! I got to see stephen stills up close and personal. he's almost deaf!
who says touring is the only way a guitar is supposed to get worn [editline]25th September 2013[/editline] artificial wear bothers me because it's just that artificial
Yes but my first criteria for factory relic guitars, they must be painted with nitro. And with the thin coat of nitro Fender use for their road worn models it won't take long before it takes on a look of it's own. And like J paul said, it's a good way for someone on a budget to get into a nitro coated guitar.

Then again I did spend $500 on a Vox amp that only really produces one tone, so make sure it's versatile and good quality before buying it.
Put my guitar up on the wall with my dad today. best decision
your dad is on the wall?
your dad is on the wall?
Yours isn't?
yeah he lives up there
I've heard of having dead pets stuffed but mounting your dad on the wall is too far I think
Fuck I went to guitar center today to try out the road worn guitars they have AGAIN! Horrible idea, now I really want one. I have to say between the american standard and the road worn I would have to get the road worn. I know the american standard is better equipped but to be honest the MIM road worn just feels better and sounds better at least to me. Even though they are pretty much the same guitar as a MIM standard the upgraded pickups as well as the 7.25" radius just feels great to me. I haven't owned a guitar with such a small fretboard radius before but I always loved it. Seriously if you get the chance to play a Fender RW put aside your bias for a second and give it a try, they are pretty incredible instruments for the price. [editline]27th September 2013[/editline] Biggest problem now is I am having a hard time deciding if I want the 50's or 60's model, I like the 3 ply pickguard on the 60's but I prefer the maple fretboard on the 50's... FUUUUUUUUUU I guess I could just throw a 3 ply pickguard on the 50's, scuff it up a little so it matches.
stop talking me into them [editline]28th September 2013[/editline] :( i really want to play one now
It's a good problem to have.
[t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/20130927_182720.jpg[/t] there we go!
[t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/20130927_182720.jpg[/t] there we go!
oh hey i think we have the same guitar [t]http://i.imgur.com/JiMg26t.jpg[/t] (still haven't gotten new strings every since my low e popped, prob going to bring it to the guitar store some time to get it set up. also thinking about getting new pickups)
Neat. Is it a good guitar? :v: silly to ask, but I haven't had any other electrics. I'm enjoying it.
nah i haven't played any other electric guitars either but as far as i can tell it's not particularly good. it works and that's all i care about at this point. my amp is shit too so it's not like i need a good guitar anyways
same here, woo cheapness! love the guitar though, for the same reasons.
