well technically, an E# is enharmonically F you dont have to call it E#
I'd call it F if I was calling C# major Db major. In C# major you already have an F# so you can't have another note (F natural) on the same line of the stave. I mean yeah aurally they are the same note but theoretically they are different. Key signatures are a bitch like that. [editline]13th October 2013[/editline]
Any recommendation for recording hardware interface? Are Line6 Pods worth a while? I would prefer to record from my gear though, my pedal has emulated output, I need something simple that gets the job done and has quality.
When I was in music school I ended up spending a lot of time using various incarnations of the Mbox 2. They seemed mostly okay but it really depends what software you wanna use it with and how much money you are willing to part with.
I got an RP55, very neat.
I've had one for a few years now. They're pretty nice. Been the cornerstone for my heavier sound from my smaller practice amps since their own gain shape was a little too far off from what I liked. The only complaint I have with it is it acts as a compressor for other pedals typically and causes issues when using my Morley Power Wah with the sound suddenly going to next to nothing when the Morley is cranked open.
I got an RP55, very neat.
How is it? I've been thinking of buying it for a good while now, how are the distortion settings?
How is it? There's the type of sound and then the level of distortion. Either way it has quite a lot of settings, there's probably a demo video on youtube somewhere. The distortion is better than my amp's overdrive though.
I've been teaching myself (kinda) how to play the guitar for a bit now. I mainly just look up tabs on the net and try to play those as well as I can. I think my main issue has something to do with strumming, as I can't pluck notes fast enough. Any tips for improving my picking?

All you have to do is play. Don't worry about speed, make sure you are playing things at a tempo you are comfortable with. Then you'll pick up speed. Just play.

There are a few riffs that I play at half speed because they're a little tricky for me to play. Yeah.

You have to start slow before you can play fast, your picking hand is just as important as your fretting hand. If it can't keep up with what your fretting hand is doing then it doesn't matter how good you can fret notes. It's really as simple as playing slow till you can play clean then speeding up slowing, if you start playing sloppy again then keep trying or slow it down a little bit. Try and keep most of the movement for your picking hand in your wrist, don't move your whole arm unless you are just wailing on your guitar playing power chords. You want to try and move as little mass as possible. Just keep going and you will improve.
Big surprise to anyone who knows me, but I've been heavy on learning some of Alter Bridge's new CD before I had to come down to SC for a funeral.
woo got my first tab on UG :>
Every tab I've tried submitting to UG gets rejected. After all the effort I go to to make them really good and accurately labelled, and considering some of the awful ones that are on there. Makes me so upset.
Everything I've tabbed on UG has been approved, it just takes too long writing down the tabs for me to want to do it. I have about 3 or so songs I've figured out how to play because I couldn't find tabs for them. This is all Jimmy Eat World though so no one cares.
i used to love playing jimmy eat world
Someone convince me not to buy this without mentioning pickup placement. Thanks I'll love you in return. YOU COULD NOT EVEN BELIEVE THE PAIN TO REMOVE THIS THING! The feeling of satisfaction right now, I got the damn thing out with a flathead screwdriver.
EMG's not passive so gay only reason to not buy it afaics
Active pickups have a lot of advantages actually, the main ones being that they can deliver a much wider frequency range with a more dynamic response and better clarity at any output level you desire, with less hum, in addition to being made with weaker magnets which causes less damping on the strings which should theoretically deliver more sustain. There are disadvantages too, obviously, mostly issues with batteries and such, but if you remember to check your batteries you'll be fine. The common misconception that people often cite as a disadvantage to active electronics is that they believe they all sound the same, when in reality, it's just the EMG 81 85 set that is so common that people think that's the only active pickups that exist or something. In reality, there are tons of different active pickups with just as many different tonal flavors as you'd find in any selection of passive pickups. Besides, it's not like the 81 85 set sounds bad or anything, they're incredibly common for a reason. Besides, once you plug any guitar into any pedal, you're now using active electronics. So for any passive purists out there, you're really not using passive electronics unless you're going straight into the amp with no pedals, which most people don't do that anyway so it's a non-issue. Beyond that, a nice buffered bypass on a pedal is great to have in your signal path if you're dealing with long cable runs between you and the amp, unless you like losing your high end bite. True bypass is a sales gimmick, a nice buffered bypass will do you a ton of good. A shitty buffer sucks though, so avoid that. Boss does a good buffered bypass in all their pedals imo, and most people have a boss tu-3 to tune anyway so bam, great buffer right after the guitar signal.
Someone convince me not to buy this without mentioning pickup placement. Thanks I'll love you in return. http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/ESP-LTD-SCT-607B-Stephen-Carpenter-7-String-Baritone-Guitar-Black/UXA?origin=product-ads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_campaign=PLA+General&utm_content=KUn97NgK_pcrid_33644218759_plid__kword__match__
I can't find anything wrong with it personally, it's rather sexual. Normal pickup spacing would be nice but with the wider frequency response of active electronics you should be able to get whatever tone you want out of it regardless of the position of the pickup so it shouldn't matter. Pickup position really only tends to matter a lot when you're dealing with passive stuff that has a really focused frequency response and therefore its' character will change a lot depending on where it is placed, but active electronics can go above and beyond that.
I actually want to try active pickups, and I absolutely take advantage of the buffer in the Boss CH-1 I use. I'm GASsing for an ESP Snakebyte, and I think the RGIRs would be nicer if the quilted one came with a mahogany body.
A Boss CH-1 is my front of the chain buffer as well, they're great.
what is that?
The remains of the truss rod nut out of my ibanez.
The remains of the truss rod nut out of my ibanez.
that's kind of what I thought it was. Why'd you have to take that out?
i used to love playing jimmy eat world
What songs did you play?
that's kind of what I thought it was. Why'd you have to take that out?
It ended up cracking while I was adjusting it for a set of 12s and then when I went back down to 10-52 the neck was just slightly backbowed. It had been like that for a while and I got fed up with it, I was gonna wait to get a screw extractor to tear it out of there but I decided to just grab a flathead screwdriver and I wrenched on it for an hour.
The remains of the truss rod nut out of my ibanez.
there for a second I thought it was a slide
I thought it was a fucked up pole piece from a pickup
