I think mastoner20 was thinking of Blackbird by Alter Bridge.
No, I was thinking of the Beatles. I know there is in AB's. I guess I've always just strummed it improperly and chickenpicked the higher portions... :/
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Z1KHlI8.jpeg[/t] dat matte, not the cleanest but sooo smooth, just frets 1-12
I'll be buying a new tuning peg for my Epiphone LP special II either way, but I'm also considering buying a new pickup. Should I?

So I decided to learn to play the guitar. Spent a good amount of time today practicing. Holy hell my fingers feel numb.

It's a Schecter Guitar Research Omen 7, which sounds like their cheap line, but it's 26.5" scale so I can use it for downtuning and keep my SG in C or higher
So I decided to learn to play the guitar. Spent a good amount of time today practicing. Holy hell my fingers feel numb.
you're going to get that for a while. Just keep at it and it'll go away before you even realise.
you're going to get that for a while. Just keep at it and it'll go away before you even realise.
Pain in the wrists is normal too right? They hurt more than my fingers. Also want to be sure I'm not going to fuck up my wrists.
Do they hurt when you strum or pick? It should go away too unless there's something seriously wrong with your technique - but that should develop too with practice. I recommend looking up some beginner technique advice like how to hold your guitar and pick correctly. Get into good habits at the start, bad habits are very difficult to get out of after a while.
Pain was probably a bit to strong of a word there. Meant sore. I mean I play drums and no matter how much or how hard I play I've never had my wrists get sore from that but guitar is a different beast. Apparently I'm holding the pick wrong. Which might explain why my right index finger suddenly dislikes bending.

[editline]20th October 2013[/editline] the sgr aren't THAT bad actually, i've tried one and they're ok for the price. get new tuners and pickups though.

It's possible it was and he didn't put a sealer coat on it before respraying it. Either that or he did it with a paint brush and just slopped it on there.
It's relatively normal. About ten years later, my wrist still bugs me from time to time when learning new things, playing around with my pick hold (something I've never been satisfied with), and from general practice such as picking (down strokes, a lot of times) exercises that exert my arm far more than normal play.
I'm only a little over two years into playing guitar, and barred chords still annihilate my wrist. The whole tendon or muscle or whatever the fuck it is connecting the big meaty part at the base of your thumb, all the way down to the elbow, just aches and aches when I play an entire song in barred chords. It used to be so bad that I couldn't play a song all the way through with full barred chords, but by forcing myself to practice it that way, I'm now able to play a handful of songs that way before I need to give myself a break and take open chord shortcuts. So that's like 3min of doing it has expanded to like 15 minutes straight of doing that, that's around a 500% improvement, so that's cool. I'm sure it'll only ever get better. It's perfectly normal and I would assume it's like developing any muscle, you just have to power through it to see the gains on the other side. And of course it's going to hurt, you're asking these muscles to strain themselves when they've never had to do anything like that before. It's like if you suddenly started lifting weights using only your thumb and your fingertips.
Yeah. I used to hate doing bar chords and wondered how anyone could favour them... now they're about all I do aside from stretched power chords. Your arms just get very used to the torment if you practice enough. My fingers used to do the same thing from legatos when I first started doing 7th-note runs across the fretboard.

Just playing them fine but doing something like 12 bar blues is one hell of a stretch
Play your guitar properly then! (Kidding) try putting it in Drop D and using up strokes. Exact same sound with a slight snap to it. For me, I call them power chords, but they're not. It's Tremonti and Breaking Ben's fav chords where the bottom two strings are barred and the 3rd or the 4th string is pressed a full two steps lower.

Like (forgive the aweful tab writing): e: - - B: - - G: - - D: 12 -7 - 4 A: 9 - 3 - 0 D: 9 - 3 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 000 - 0 - 0h1p0 - 0h1p0 Edit: Sorry, I realized my last post looks like I appeared that I was referring to the upside down playing. I meant to explain the stretched power chords I like.
Woo, extended a scale by myself!

[editline]20th October 2013[/editline] While I'm at this, I'll try the Albert King tuning!
Never tried Drop D before, feels pretty good!
What guitar are you playing? I want to try reverse tuning, but I have some concerns about access to the high e string on upper frets.
While I'm trying the other tunings, I'll try other drops as well. [editline]20th October 2013[/editline]
What guitar are you playing?
Good ol cheap Epiphone Les Paul Special II
Oh, one of those. How hard is it to reach the high e at, say, the 22nd fret? From what I remember of playing my buddy's, it wasn't too bad.
No, sorry. I'm used to going high on the fretboard means to go from the 12th fret to the first. I'm just quirky that way; just tell me to shuttup and toss a brick at me if I stop making any sense.
I go from low to high on string order, if that's normal. When I'm explaining something, I just go by direction. Keep talking bby
