There shouldn't be a soldered contact between the power input and the board. There should be a big fucking power transformer between the two mounted to the case and then six wires going from it to the board and everything else. Lemme guess, this is one of those things where it's just stuck directly to the fucking board and there's a huge mess in the case.
theres two power transformers on both sides of the amp, and in the middle is the power input which is soldered to a pcb board i dont know why its on a pcb board tbh, i think id be better off taking that pcb board out and replacing it with electrical cabling because theres really no point
Oh, fuck, I was so busy trying to think of what electrical problem it could have been from the diagram that I never noticed the actual component layout. Giant aluminum heat sink for the tubes, cheap old power transformer that runs hotter than is reasonable, stick them together in one end of the box and something's guaranteed to burn sooner or later. So yeah, Naz called it, looks like these things should be hot before you even get into shitty components. Add in the transformer getting nasty (there is not an old Marshall for which the transformer is not a degree of nasty) and you're probably cooking the on/off switch.
I would go with the vent option, not a hard job as long as you are fine chopping a few holes in the top of the cab. http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/Vents Buy a couple of fitting vents and stick them in there and it will look like it was always that way and if all goes right then that should help out.
that heat sink is not stock [editline]11th March 2013[/editline] what im guessing is that it got hot, the solder got loose, and the wire started dissipating heat and burning the board which caused the plastic burning smell
You could also wire in a small computer fan or plug in a normal fan and point it at the back of the amp, could help
Yeah I was thinking about that, you could always give the vents a try and if it still gets too hot then wire a fan in.
yeah ill give it a shot, thanks for helping me out!
yeah ill give it a shot, thanks for helping me out!
No problem, I hope you can get it working the way it should.
Threw it down the stairs wrong.
that's my line [editline]12th March 2013[/editline]
What's a good/cheap way to get the rust/dirt out of an guitar?
0000 steel wool for metal, lighter fluid for wood.
I wonder what would happen if you threw an axe fx down the stairs I suspect it'd start glowing and float down
looking for chord progressions that sound as nice as these https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nLPAZtDYR1M#! that thing with C specifically [editline]12th March 2013[/editline] or songs with chord progs like that

Couldn't find a better video of the guitar playing part, but you can get the idea.
You could also wire in a small computer fan or plug in a normal fan and point it at the back of the amp, could help
I have a fan in the back of my Mesa and it fixed a lot of heat problems. It's called the ohm fan
Anyone know what kind of amp I'd need in order to get a tone similar to that of the Pixies?
Someone here is selling a Peavey Foundation bass for £70. It looks 80s. If I have enough money when I get paid then I might see if I can snag it for £50.
Just saw this on reddit. It looks really cool. Guitars made from recycled skateboards.

What are you guys opinions on shorter scale guitars? I'm eyeing byrdlands and vandenbergs.
What are you guys opinions on shorter scale guitars? I'm eyeing byrdlands and vandenbergs.
i have no problem, the only thing is fret spacing. Otherwise it's almost exactly the same as 25 scale guitars
i love gretches jaguars and duo-sonics [editline]12th March 2013[/editline] theyre actually more comfortable for me to play even though i dont particularly have small hands but thats a given
Just saw this on reddit. It looks really cool. Guitars made from recycled skateboards.
I'm not usually one to question a guitar because of the wood it's made out of but skateboards are literally just plywood
What are you guys opinions on shorter scale guitars? I'm eyeing byrdlands and vandenbergs.
I like the 24 3/4" scale length that my explorer has, it feels a bit slinkier than my ibanez but it's not uncomfortable.
pro tip acoustic guitars double as a desk if you lay it face down in your lap [editline]12th March 2013[/editline] "face down in your lap"
I'm not usually one to question a guitar because of the wood it's made out of but skateboards are literally just plywood
I saw an old plywood Domino acoustic at a friend's earlier and it sounded surprisingly okay. Compared to my plywood Lotus, which sounds like ass in a basket. It ain't the wood, it's how it's used.
yeah cause skate decks are designed with tonality in mind
Yeah man, 5 ply boards sound nothing like 7 ply.
I would play one of those and get all the bitches because it looks punk and bitches are all about pop punk shit.
Poser, you aren't tr00.
