I don't know why people tune their acoustics especially classical ones down, it makes it sound fizzy or dead to me. I used to, but not anymore because it just was flubby
It depends on the make and model of the guitar. My Alvarez sounds just as alive and as clear in C# as it does in E.

Mine's not a jumbo guitar. Just the standard folk-guitar with a single cutaway. See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkBz0mYLR4g [editline]3rd November 2013[/editline] Also; I've found pick shapes have a lot more of an influence on my tone (as far as fuzzy, dull, or weak) over the shape/size.

Looks dreadnought size to me, just with a cutaway. On my classical guitar I gotta be in standard at A440 because it has such a focused midrange that this is where the guitar truly shines, you can tell the moment you move one of the strings out of tune even just slightly. I can't see going below E flat or D on a classical, archtop, or a semiacoustic, maybe a resonator guitar, but the small bodied parlor guitars and the smaller bout archtops are really focused on that mid range and you need that focus to cut through everyone else.
They make smaller guitars than 20 frets? Ah, haiiiil naw! Ain' no'ody got time fo' dat! But no, really, classical guitars are designed for that style of playing. That makes sense that they would sound horrendous outside of standard tuning since that's what the tuning was based around. For me and my style of playing, I never touch anything smaller than what I showed, since I rely on dropped tunings and the fuller range of a 22-fret guitar on my leads.
I put my classical in D and it sounds awesome, just a bit off, but still good.
You get used to the E standard sound and as soon as you go lower you really hear the acoustic guitar body shine. I kept in E standard and tuned my big string somewhere down to B to make some interesting chords and holy fuck that sound, it catches your ear instantly.
Tune bottom string down to A. AADGBE
as far as downtuning goes AGCFAD is my favorite
Is there any way to get my low E string to stop buzzing? If I hit anything other than an open note it'll buzz like mad.
Is there any way to get my low E string to stop buzzing? If I hit anything other than an open note it'll buzz like mad.
Is it touching other frets when you fret it?
Is it touching other frets when you fret it?
Yeah.
Uhhmm, Nut may be too high there, action could be adjusted, frets too high?
Actually lets rephrase what I said. On the first three frets it'll buzz no matter where my finger Is. On the others as long as my finger is right on the fret itself they won't buzz. That or if I strum to hard.
What guitar is it/what bridge does it have? It sounds like the height of the nut is off or the action isn't good.
Its an Ibanez 421EX FM.
Yeah, something's not level, either the frets or nut
If it is buzzing on the first few frets than it is most likely a neck relief problem, too much tension on the truss rod putting the neck too straight or into a back bow.

Black with white binding.
Is there any way to get my low E string to stop buzzing?
isn't that the thing i keep seeing in old Iron Maiden live videos
You'll see it in Def Leppard videos with 3 humbuckers and a Kahler.
anyone have experience in ordering from Musician's Friend? how's their overall service?
anyone have experience in ordering from Musician's Friend? how's their overall service?
I order from them all the time, I have only ever had one problem with them but I asked to speak to someone higher up and the problem got resolved quickly. I still continue to order from them, I even bought my explorer from them recently. When I bought my mic setup their stock was out on the mic stand I ordered but instead of waiting to get them back in they just sent me a more expensive one. Sent me a $50 mic stand instead of the $20 one I ordered, that speaks for itself.

How to properly cover meshuggah
isn't that the thing i keep seeing in old Iron Maiden live videos
Adrian Smith used to use one back in the day among many other guitars. One of which, I was surprised to see, was a Dean ML. I can't remember what video that was though. Adrian seems to use the widest range of guitars. That said, I saw Dave Murray play a Gibson Flying V at the o2 in London earlier this year. I've only ever seen Janick play Strats though.
just a reminder to listen to voodoo child at full volume on your system of choice if you haven't recently
